- I'm always looking for a fabric to make a hexagonal kaleidoscope out of. And this time I wanted it to be a panel that I could both cut, and leave one in the center of the quilt. I saw a lot of wonderful prints with wolves, deer, whales, but I didn't have the heart to cut them)) And finally, this wonderful Nautilus! I loved the colors, the hexagons that were formed in the process and the final result! What do you think?
Later, I will take better photos and post them in the Community, because right now we have not the best winter landscapes)))
A few technical details:
I used 1+6 panels and 2 1/2 yard fabrics for the board.
The width of the strips from which I cut the triangles is 11 cm (4.3")
I made 100 hexagons and used 99.5 of them!
The size of the finished quilt 190cm/225cm ( 75"/88,5")

Looks great! Kaleidoscope quilt is one of my favorite. I have done one and planning on two more.

Many of my favorite things come together in this beautiful nautilus quilt. The blue/green color palette is my absolute favorite. I'm obsessed with the Golden Ratio and how it manifests in nature, as in sunflowers, the nautilus, and even spiral galaxies. Thank you for sharing this with us! ❤❤❤

Wow! Again wow! You chose the perfect name. What a great way to show off a beautiful piece of artwork in the fabric itself. Then the kaleidoscope blocks show off the fabric’s potential. And then your quilting design perfectly compliments the fabric too!
How long did this take you to make from start to finish? And how many hours per day do you spend quilting?

Hi, Debra, Thank you for your kind words! It took me three weeks to make this quilt. And half of that time was quilting))) I can sew for 30-60 minutes. Then I get up and do something else. And so several times a day)) And this is usually when I'm at home and there is no air raid alarm.
@@oltasquilts2725 That is a good work method. Once I get started in my sewing room, I don’t want to leave. I didn’t get much quilting done last year but I think I will have more time this coming year. My biggest problem is that I have many quilt tops made that I need to complete. That is my goal anyway- to get some finished!

Absolutely gorgeous! I will never reach your skill level, but you inspire me to get creative! Do you spray baste your quilt sandwich before quilting? You make it look so easy, but I know it’s not!

I love how you added the panel and kept the hex shape above and below. I would not have thought to do that and it looks wonderful:) The final result is beautiful! I will check the community page some time again to see how you bring it to life outside. Your photo shoots of your quilts are really lovely and I hope you enjoy creating that part too:)

What a lovely and tasteful modern quilt again! Great design, great colours! I love your beautiful quilts. It's art! And you quilt it easily on your Pfaff Quilts Expression!?!? I admire that because I always have thread breaks after a few rounds . This is so frustrating, I must do something wrong. I have tried several different needles, changed the tension... The upper thread kind of rubs itself thin and breaks. 😢Would love to have a tip from you! Thank you so much in advance. Greetings from Germany and all the best! Andrea
Thank you so much! I get you really well, I had the same problem with my previous sewing machine Jenome. And I didn't believe that I can do this on a regular machine. Now everything works out for me, but I think that the approach to each machine is different, and I would highlight 4 factors to achieve success: 1. The needles (special for quilting), 2. The threads (I quilt with inexpensive viscose thread from China.😂 My machine is tearing all the expensive threads), 3. The thread tension, 4. Smooth, even rhythm of the quilt movement.
