I like your seemingly random approach to your videos. One never knows whether one is to take a gentle stroll down an English country lane or to, instead, dive into deep time! Of course, I will spread word of your show as much as I can. It is refreshing to see how a thinking person perceives the world (as opposed to those with closed minds).
Truly fascinating. Please feel free to waffle on like that at any time. Even when you tell us about things I already "know about," I learn details I wasn't aware of. Thank you!
Wonderful content as always. Thanks. Early in the video you say that you weren't planning on making a video. Then you proceed to grace us with a delightful and enraging lesson on the man who invented time - with appropriate waffles. I'm not sure which is more impressive - that you have all of these facts, concepts and ideas in your head, or that you can bring them all together (without having planned to shoot a video) into an engaging and informative video. You are a gem 🎉
Fascinating! And somewhat charming that you used the more traditional Long Scale use of "billion" as a million million rather than the newer and more common Short Scale use as a thousand million.
Great storytelling, very interesting, geology is an interesting subject. (As a Dane, I have to mention that Niels Steensen isn't Dutch but Danish). The English physicist Julian Barbour suggests that time does not exist, but was invented by humans to describe the movement of matter in space. Merry Christmas!
Wow!! Wayne thank you so much!! I really needed this today!! I just got home from work!! Merry Christmas and happy New Year’s my friend be well!!👍🏿💯❤️🎉🎉🎊🎊
@@TheMapReadingCompany yes!! I work for my local power company in Washington state!! Had to deal with a very big landslide, which caused a huge outage!!
Great video 🙂. My partner has a degree in Geology so this brought back memories for her. She's visited and studied the Hutton's Unconformity at the Isle of Arran.
Unfortunately, "time is a progression from past to future" is a circular definition. The notions of "past" and "future" _assume_ the existence of time already, otherwise how do you define them? 😺
long winded - yes I agree. I must start to make scripts so that I don't waffle on all over the place - I watched the video and even I thought that the explanation of sisyphean was a bit "waffley"
@@TheMapReadingCompanymap reading already annoys the flat earthers, now you’re going to get the Young Earth Creationists on your back mate! Now perhaps you can do a video on Jon Snow’s cholera map, wind up the anti-vaxxers :)

I find it amusing that scholars of the ages are so sure that their ideas are correct that they proclaim them fact. I wonder what we accept as fact today will be shown ludicrous in the future?
We have memories, and we can remember some events that happened before other events. We quantify the number of events filling the gap and call it 'time' so we can agree the size of the gap between ourselves.
Time, in my opinion ,is a measure of things happening. If nothing, literally nothing happens, there's no time to talk about. SI definition of a second as a time between two things occuring, namely caesium frequency.
Love watching a video on this Channel on Xmas day!!! 🎉❤ Excellent topic. What a place to make a video!!!! I love it there....😊 Merry Christmas to you and yours. ❤ All the best for 2025....❤❤
I never knew there were two Huttons Unconformities! I've visited the one at Lochranza on Arran, didn't realise there was a mainland site with the same name
I know where you are going even before you mention it. It has to do with earth's history. And is fascinating. Thank you for this video! It is fantastic!!
I took both of my daughters to Siccar Point on New Years Day 2014 and explained how it was as important as the 'Origin of Species' to our understanding of the world. They sort of couldn't really get how famous and important it was because there wasn't a gift shop ... and it just reinforced that they've got a weird Dad. They were brought up to understand Religion (they were both altar servers at the time) but to trust in Science.
Beautiful. On my bucket list to visit. These earlier pioneering geologists invented uniformitarianism and the then obvious deep time recorded in the stratigraphy you wandered about on. The rest is history eh? Wonderful discussion.
When you get there you'll find a fence leading down to the sea (on the right of the steps in the mud). There is a rope in place next to the fence to hold on to going down - it's VERY steep. I only found the rope on the way up !!
Happy Christmas 2024 was very educational and very enjoyable.. Looking forward to watching your videos in 2025 Really looking forward to the waffle in the coming years.
Well this certainly deserves an algorithm-jogging comment! Waffle? It was all of interest to me. And you claim not to be ‘clever’? Piffle! And thank you. Les
Now it's Christmas so I remember what I did last year. I can visualize what happened long before that, but it stops when I get to the birth of Jesus. Merry Christmas.
Entropy disqualified 😑 ok, time is the knowledge that I'll have to change another diaper on the toddler that will try and maintain the exact opposite position on the other side of the sofa at some point after right now...
Can't exactly call this a waffle since there was no navigation content presumed. This makes me feel kind of lost, time to start striking nails and reading cow pies.
Umm. Makes your brain hurt, is right. (& that’s before the ‘festivities’!) I don’t get how the material that is washed off, ends up on top of the rock being washed?? Is that where Sisyphus comes in?? Anyway, happy Christmas, and new year, from the other side of the Forth.
You are a natural storyteller with a talent for keeping us engaged and fascinated.

Every day is an education. I particularly liked the nudge against politician interfering in education
😂🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭
Not always politicians.. Other groups with other philosophies have their moments in the ascendance ;-)
(Your philosophies may vary, YMMV)
And I was thinking it was going to be either John Harrison (from a navigation point of view) or Martin Heidegger from a philosophical one.

Hi Frank, Ha ha if I made a script then I'd think the videos would be only half (or a quarter) of the length.
😂😂😂
