For those wondering: You only see Tony saying, "I wouldn't do that" when the show comes back from the last ad break. The thing he "wouldn't do" is cut off, but he opened the segment by saying that they were a minute ahead of time, and that he had several unused Logies acceptance speeches that he'd like to share. Please don't ask me why I remember this 33 years later.
Sale needs to come back I miss it Pete Smith is now 85 and Tony Barber is 84 now. I think that Rob “Millsy” Mills will be a good host if it does return.

@EelisWalking According to Tony Barber's memoir (which, to be fair is a load of egotistical drivel), it was over a clause in his contract. The short of it was that if the show were axed and the network couldn't find a suitable new project for him within six months, his contract could be terminated.
As I was born in July ‘91, I’m not 100% sure who it was, but I would guess it might’ve been Phillip Barnes, who represented the year 1991 at the 21st birthday challenge. I remember Glenn Ridge saying that his first grand champ was Rob Kusmuscki who won $600,000+ in mid ‘92

I had forgotten how terrible Alyce's voice was and how bereft of personality she was .. At least she was marginally better than the truly awful Jo Bailey... Then again Jeanie Little would have been better than Jo...

It was actually eleven years. Tony started with the show when it first aired in July 1980.
THOSE WERE THE DAYS S.O.T.C. FROM 1991. I WAS 16 THEN.
I was 17. I didn't tune in often when Tony and Alyce left the show.
An awesome and loveable TV couple.
Now we need the episode of Glenn Ridge and Jo Bailey’s debut on SOTC!
Jo Silvagni is now a Nanna. Her son Jack and his wife Grace had a baby boy Charlie.
