The jump scares get less scarier the more you play it.
I feel like every one misses the jump scare with Scratch possessed Casey in Saga's final mind place sequence. If you try to profile Casey, it'll jump scare you. Scared the crap outta me on my first place through, and it gives you a disturbing picture of Scratch and Casey's faces overlapping.
for me it was when you turn away from the case board and behind you a taken is taking a swing at you before disappearing. scared the shit out of me
0:45 jesus
Thank you so much
Missed a couple there bud, definitely shat my pants a couple of time
0:41 hate it when this happens at my workplace
No way??? Your coworker also wakes up naked without a heart and randomly attacks everyone? I thought I was alone on this one
I am glad I got this game for free because after that first jump scare I said nope
They added an option to reduce the intensities of the jumpscares, you should try it out!
I can't wait for modders to remove these jumpscares lmao
some of them are good, like when you approach cynthia standing at window. But still too many nonsense jumpscares from her after that.
Like others have said, it's a cool artistic technique to present antagonists. nothing more. They are not cheap jump scares
"I don't know how the majority of people seemed to miss this. Currently watching so I can anticipate the jump scares😭
Worst one I got so far was at the end of Sagas chapter 3 when the well turns to blood
Finished the game yesterday, there were many but didnt expect they would make 12 minutes footage lol
The jumpscare got that got me the most is the cultist in the mind place jumpscare. Probably because the mind place feels so safe and that's why it got me.

@@alphamineronRespectfully, you are commenting on a video that spoils all the jump scares you call an artistic technique. What brings you here then chief?
@@viewerdolan8395 What connection are you drawing? I don’t see how my point is relevant to why I clicked on the video. To see my point, you just have to look at the trigger condition of the cuts… that’ll prove the point about their purpose.
If you must know, I clicked because I was curious about the count of “jumpscares” they used
@@alphamineron I personally agree and can see the artistic point, despite hating jumpscares myself, which is why I don't play horror games or watch horror movies. It is a cool concept, but as much as you call it a "cool artistic technique to present antagonists" it doesn't change the fact that they're effectively jump scares. Just because something is used in a certain manner or with a certain intention doesn't change the end result. It is still there and I dare to say that it has been added with the intention of also acting as a jumpscare. They wouldn't make it as sudden otherwise, but rather something like the electric shock effect of the Doctor in Dead By Daylight (how it kind of gives you a slight warning before it happens).
Now I want to reitarate that I think the concept is cool, and I don't think it waters down the concept even if they are meant to be jumpscares. They're a bit overused (regardless of whether they're an artistic choice or pure jumpscares), but that's the only negative I could say about it.
@@imprv1951 Yea we’re saying the same thing mostly innit? I never said that they are not jumpscares. I said they are not “cheap” jumpscares, because their purpose isn’t as a substitute for horror like most popular movies or shows or games. Their purpose is to unsettle you.
Expecting the game to NOT use jumpscare is an extremely entitled and foolish belief. This belief is the reason why people are complaining about “cheap” I think, that makes the most sense to me. Jumpscares are an easy and almost perfect way to trigger an emotional FEAR response when you’re sitting safely in your home. Expecting a horror game to not use horror mechanics is bizarre.
It would be cheap if this was the only true horror mechanic used in the game or the primary horror mechanic. But it is not. It is used to set the mood; to prep you for the atmosphere of horror that comes next.
I would take people’s words that at points it might seem too much… I personally was too excited the whole time to ever get scared or startled by the game, it was less horror more metaphysical experience simulator for me. All I’m saying is that it is not perfect, the use of jumpscares as secondary horror element is definitely not great. It should’ve been tertiary. But it is NOT CHEAP either.
U missed a couple. Thomas Zane has some in the theater, when you interact with the vent at the back of the theatre , and when you are about to enter the picture room at the end .
There’s a lot of jumpscares at the saga mind at the end too
A few of them got me in my playthrough 😂
Thanks i Need to spoil because i hate the jumpscares. I prefer play more calm
Man i love this😢😅
Look out for a missed jumpscare when entering the burnt train, it's an obvious one but still
Did anybody else notice the water cooler at 4:56 ?
If you try and not go through the door 5:42, you will still get the jumpscare when going through the door to the left.
Can confirm this, just happened to me and wasn’t expecting it at all. Devs did a great job with jumpscares just wish you could disable them
@@ElectroLM10 right! My heart really races when these type jumpscares happen. Hopefully they give us an option to disable that next update.
All the victims turned into cursed ghosts is idea taken from Silent Hill 4.
Thanks for this cut, in fact I am one of those idiots who, on the contrary, really liked these jumpscares and I would like to look at them again
Probably the worst aspect of this game for me is the overuse of jumpscares. It’s gotten to the point where I find them incredibly cheap and more annoying than scary. That’s mainly why I can’t stand most horror films.
For a psychological horror game, I really wish Remedy had kept the jumpscares minimal but impactful. Because, man, there are a TON in this game. Sure, some are pretty intense, but most just remind me of how annoying COD Warzone was with its jumpscares during the Halloween events. I hate that I’m even comparing it to that, because AW2 is still an excellent horror game, it’s just let down in areas like this.
More game studios need to take a leaf out of Silent Hill’s book. The jumpscares there are few but scare the living shit out of me to this day.
This entire game is just desperately trying to be something that is not, constant cheap jumpscares just fits it perfectly. As a huge fan of the first game, I absolutely despise the sequel.
It's normal. Sometimes they even invigorate you well so that you don’t relax inside the horror (!).
Cheap jumpscares are not normal, never were. Constant cheap jumpscares is the worst. Making player to "don't relax" in boring ass game with little to no action sequences is simply insulting. Fits that overrated sequel perfectly, actually.
0:50 , I felt the bloated corpse waking up in the morgue is not jumpscare fully, because of the build up I kinda expected it.
What I hated though are those that really came out of nowhere like the one when Saga was walking towards the tree.
Ah yes, the Bjork stalker jumpscares
Way too many Screen Overlay Jump Scares.
I love horror games(Silent Hill Dead Space Etc., but avoid cheap jump scare games.
Wasn't expecting those when I bought this game since Alan Wake 1 and Control barely had any.
As someone who deals with anxiety and is fairly jumpy it's really ruining an otherwise great game.
I haven't even made it to the worst section that has like a dozen in 30 mins yet and already considering putting it down till there's an accessibility option.

Just noticed I missed the dialog with cynthia (or I dont remember it)

Not everybody likes the same stuff, I hate onions, I hate jumpscares, but when I really love survival horror games I will push through the annoyances
@@Pulowski They are not talking about preferences... you can like or dislike diff things but they are talking about people missing the point. These WERE NOT JUMPSCARES, in the traditional sense. They are not there to provide scary moments, they are an artistic pointer to show you the arrival or departure of the antagonists in the story. They are like a "Navigation waypoint marker"
That's the point, they are not meant to serve as jumpscares like other horror shows or games use them
These are among the greatest jumpscares I have seen in a game,
They are psychologically perfect:
At first you see a person and then it rapidly jumps at you..this way you get the feeling of being threatend at all times.
I get a feeling of the cheapest and laziest way to scare, it's a shame they couldn't pull off anything more interesting.
@@stickydude8921 then what could be a mass-produceable alternative to jumpscares?

Mid gameplay jumpscare cutaways like cmon

Am I the only one who doesn't get jumped at all by these? I felt most of these here in the video are more like artistic touches to the atmosphere and I didn't even consider them real jump scares.
@@Nito-San It also might be that I'm rather "old". I might not get as immersed as much as I used to be when I was younger. But after I finished the game, I wanted to see what others thought about it, and to my surprise I saw many reviews mention that the game utilizes lots of cheap jump scares. I was very confused because I thought the game had practically 0 jump scares. The atmosphere is top notch and I loved it, which I thought was scary. It might just be that I'm broken when compared to others...
I would said it’s a kind of the representation of story beat since the whole plot is all surrounding the story that Tom and scratch wrote and now it’s seeping into the reality of bright fall and saga and Alan is the only two who can sense what’s wrong
It helps to be actually playing the game. When you're not expecting it, and you're focused on navigating the area. They come out of nowhere and they're loud.
They get me everytime.
@mellowstrangler fair play man if it didn't get you. Fair play.
Because I've played a LOT of horror games especially this year, and from dead space, outlast, resi 4 and the remake and everything else in between, these jumpscares were the most intense shock I've had.
I think the execution is beautiful across the board. It helps there is genuine atmosphere too. My criticism is the reliance
I hate jump scare. I really want to play the game but I guess it’s not for me…
I know im in the minority here, but I loved these jump scares. I think our perception of jump scares have been heavily tainted by lazy and derivative films. Im sure most people have seen at least one or two slasher flicks where the jump scares have the same setup and are obviously telegraphed. What people forget though, is that *good* jump scares exist and many classic horror films have used them to great effect. The Exorcist 3, The Conjuring, Rosemary's Baby, and especially Mulholland Drive. In fact, David Lynch has used jump scares very effectively in other films like Lost Highway and Inland Empire and we know how much Remedy love Lynch. Alan Wake is basically Twin Peaks: The Game.
But even moreso than Lynchian, I think the jump scares in AW2 are actually Kubrickian. Kubrick loved to use quick, abrupt, almost subliminal cuts to portray terror from his actors. The Shining is the most obvious example, but he used them a bit in 2001 as well. The jump scares in AW2 convey the same thing: theyre extreme close-up shots of a characters meant to convey their deranged mental states and murderous intent, something you don't get to see when you're shooting them from afar in third person. Think of Cynthia, her character in AW2 is a total subversion of what she represented in the first game. In AW1, Cynthia was a force of light and a close ally of Alan/Tom who entire demeaner was soft and welcoming, if a bit eccentric. In the sequel, however, she's been corrupted by The Dark Presence and turned into one of it's servants. Her memories have gradually mixed with a girl who drowned in the bunker beneath the nursing home she lives in, and little is left of her humanity. The flashes of her bloodied, distorted face with that deranged smile effectively tell the player - "that gentle old woman you knew is gone, you can't save her, this monster is all that remains." Its frightening both consciously as a terrifying image accompanied by a sharp noise, but also subconsciously with how the player is forced to come to terms with her transformation and reminded of it again and again.
I understand why someone people just cannot deal with so many jump scares and why some may even dismiss them as schlocky, but I hope my perspective helps you to see them a bit differently.
Couldn't not have said better myself. Glad I'm not the only who likes them.
То, как и должны на деле выглядеть пугалки и страшные внезапные проявления
IOOhhh my shyttt, that so scare
I was expecting something WAY more scary. - alot more unexpected.. like.. you're walking around, torch goes out, flickers back on.. walk around again.. repeats, then it goes completely dark and silent..you hear things being knocked over.. goes silent again.. then suddenly all the lights come on and nothing happens... then you turn a corner and get taken out by some shadoway entity with a blood-curdling scream and landing right on top of you. - that sort of jump-scare. - not impressed with these at all.
Thats why i loved Alan Wake 1. It didnt rely on jumpscares. Everytime i eanted to replay, i had apprehension because the atmosphere was scary. The sequel is relying on jumpscares to rile you up.
That's because the game doesn't rely on it for horror, it's there because the "jumpscares" are Scratch rewriting the plot to hinder Saga.
so the jump scares are constant annoying flashes of weird faces... and THIS got an update to tone down jump scares....?
this thing isnt a horror game, is just a detective game and so... the thing is not even in a lot of languages to keep interesting... sad thing
ASMR
Love this game but i think all the jumpscares are unnecessary lmao💀
What’s with the large amount of cheap jump scares? I thought AW2 was like the best survival horror ever the way some of you talk about it.
It's just mid-okay game with good aesthetics from time to time
But it's also very "artsy", Which is why no matter what decision they made (even if obviously bad) it "just fits" and won't be questioned by people
After all, you GOTTA respect artist vision, right?

Reviewers were definitely overselling this game
Honestly, AW2 felt like it was trying to immitate what David Lynch did with that terrible season 3 of Twin Peaks: completely rewriting the atmosphere from the previous works. Don't get me wrong, it was fun to play for sure. Story-wise it just felt like it was treading water, with no significant progression. You go through all this trouble for several hours only to have the ending basically tell you pretty much stuck where you started.
@@spicydong317agreed on both points, 8.9 score on metacritic ffs, if there wasn't Fullscreen indie game jumpscares I would have agreed with the score as I love survival horror games

These are really not scary. They feel more annoying than scary to be honest.
Its the worst and cheapest kind of horror, I hated it 😢

Very, very cheap. Reminds me of old internet scare flashes. Great horror this is not. Lame.
Some of these jumpscares show how cheap this game actually is... Pretty garbage to need tricks like those "flashing images" to feel scary. Thankfully they didn't won GOTY, and the narrative priza was undeserved, but they had to give this game something for some reason (I guess it is cool liking remedy).
This game has a crazy good story, and it's still pretty scary, idk what you're on.
Anyone who turns these off is pathetic. 😂
Even with the new settings my anxiety is to high to play. Too late to get a refund too
just stop crying about these jumpscares.

The scariest ones for sure are the deputies and Cynthia jump scares. For some reason, Scratch jump scares don't affect me at all.
I felt like the early Scratch Jumpscares aren‘t there to scare but to create atmosphere, they are just not as „jumpy“ as the other ones.
I hate Cynthia
