Is A Green Cheek Conure The Right Beginner Parrot For You?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 вер 2019
- Hey Birbsquad! In today's video I'm going to discuss if a green cheek conure parakeet is the right beginner parrot for different types of lifestyles. Whether a green cheek conure is the right bird for you is not always a black or white answer. What would be a great beginner parrot for some may be a horrible beginner parrot for others. This is why in this video, I talk more so about the different lifestyles people have and see if a green cheek conure would be suitable for that specific way of living. I wanted to do this in hopes to give some of those a little direction when they are trying to decide if a green cheek conure would be a good beginner parrot for them.
If there is a certain lifestyle that I didn't cover in this video, please let me know in the comments and I'll try my best to help out and give some options :) Green cheek conures can be the absolute best beginner parrot for you but..... gotta make sure they fit your lifestyle! Play a little matchmaking if you know what I mean ;)

Dont know if you guys cares but if you're bored like me atm you can watch pretty much all of the latest movies on instaflixxer. I've been streaming with my gf for the last few days =)
@Patrick Adonis definitely, have been using instaflixxer for since november myself :)
Its not a bird for "beginners", its a friend for lifetime.
But if you were to be a first bird would it be suitable
Yes

What bird/parrot you have?
I have a Quaker
Thats the way it's suppose to be. I wish more people understood that.
You rock gf!!!
Victoria:
Do you have a lot of social activities?
Me (introvert):
Haha... Anyways
I'll wanna spend more time with friends?I spend all day with my birds😂
🤣 you're my kind of person.
Felix screams when he sees me walking home from school, when he sees himself in the mirror, when he hears running water, when he's scared by the color yellow or a large bird flying by the window (that's a louder scream), when he knows I'm in the house and I'm leaving him in his cage, when I leave him alone in a room or alone with people he doesn't trust, and he screams to wake me up in the morning on weekends. I think that's it. It sounds like a lot, but as long as he's with me or can see me you wouldn't even know there's a bird in the house. Honestly I think its adorable when he screams at me while I'm walking home from school or if I leave him alone. It's really nice to know he misses me. The only screaming I really consider annoying is the alarm clock screaming in the morning.
Felix wants to be heard! Haha. I agree with you that in a weird way... It's kind of nice that the scream because they miss you. My Quaker does that with me. Thank you for sharing your experience with Felix!! He sounds like a vocal yet lovely bird 😉😅☺️
Im getting a green cheek conure in a couple days I'm so excited 😁
That's great!! You have a name picked out? What color mutation are you getting?

Awe!! They are hilarious birds aren't they? 😅
Mine is an ass hahah
I love the “research” dance at the beginning 😂
I just started researching Green Cheek Conures because I went to a pet store for a gecko and this bird absolutely stole my heart. The lady was talking about how closed off and scared he is, and when I walked by he started trying to play with me. He was running back and forth turning his head upside down, trying to grab at my hand through the glass, trying to give me his treats. The lady was astonished she said never in her career has she ever seen a bird at that store seemingly pick a human. I want him very much, and while guilt is eating me because I left him there, I feel like I also need to make sure I can give him a proper life if I do take him. Since I’ve never had more than parakeets. I am a stay at home wife so I have lots of time to give him, but my husband is super afraid of birds because he grandmothers parrot attacked him twice when he was young. So one thing I wanted to ask is how often it is that they are naughty and bite people extremely aggressively. Because if it turns out he’s a good fit for me, I want to make sure it’s a good fit for my husband to learn to trust birds as well
Conure's bites can hurt, but they heal pretty fast. Unless you really annoy them, i dont think they will bite. I have 2 btw. Hope this answered your question! Btw, did you get him yet?
I just have to know...did you go back and get him?
Can you do a follow up if you got the bird or not? My family recently got one gifted. The other owners didn’t want him anymore but they’re pretty cool birds. I only get bit when he gets ticked off or he feels threatened. For example, if he’s hanging out on my sisters shoulder and I try to pick him up he’ll nip at me. I just take it as a “I’m hanging out with her, back off” because when she walks off and I’m alone with him he’ll happily climb on my shoulder and move around on my arms. I feel like birds are a little more tricky with their temperament so I just try to notice what he likes and what he doesn’t like.
I also wanna know if you got him!
IT'S BEEN 5 MONTHS
WE NEED TO KNOW IF YOU WENT BACK FOR THAT ANGEL
We have had our green cheek for about 3 months, she absolutely has the biggest attitude out of all my animals but she’s also the most affectionate. She eats breakfast with me and “helps” me do the dishes, aka plays in the water when it’s running. Absolute favorite pet, hands down.
Yes to everything you said! I swept up after Bagel 4 times today and changed his papers twice. He is a messy little snot! You have helped us so much, chin up and know that you make a big difference. There was a point where I was sure I had made a huge mistake but with your help he is turning into one of the most amazing birds I have had!
It’s hard to work or study and have time to take care of a bird. People please think it over before you make the decision. These birds are very social and need care and love ❤️
Thanks for your input girl I appreciate it!
You can study with your birb
just make sure he/she doesn't eat your homework

im getting a green cheek conure this friday! cage is coming along, toys too and im so excited. i wasn't planning on a conure at first, but when i was looking at her through her cage i awed, i awed even more though when i started walking away abit, distracted and she just got up to where she could climb and walk, and tried following me through her cage 😭. i was just dying with love at this point, wanting to hold her, i even sang her a song, baby mine, when she was on my chest, she just stared up at me with a sweet look before turning her head around, like "huh, i like this lil tune" . i just knew i had to get her, the mess is gonna be worth the while, and interactions i wont hesitate with as i never have anything to do at home, and feeding, and holding her. im excited. i already planned a name for her too, Nala 🥰
An we talk about the puppy photobomb?! 🥰

What you said about teaching children responsibility with animals are the most intelligent words I’ve ever heard spoken on UA-cam! Parents need to know this before bringing a living creature into their homes. I love watching your videos on the different breeds! I’ve learned so much because of you. Thank you!
Great advice :) I've been researching and considering a green cheek conure for the past few years. Thanks for the advice
Thank you I appreciate ya! If you end up getting one let me know how everything goes ☺️
Hey! Did you get one?? How’s it been going??
Absolute a friend. A bit nippy when they are young. But with right treatment. They are just AWESOME😃
this was the best video for a beginner Victoria. Tons of thanks
Hi Victoria! You've nailed the pros and cons of owning a green cheek! A little floofy pain in the butt you wouldn't want to be without. Full of zip and confidence and enthusiasm for life, ready to come out of his cage each morning and take on the day 100%. Loud, messy, clingy, destructive, feisty and utterly fearless. And they make you laugh many times a day. What they do not deserve, is to be left alone for many hours each day, waiting for their special person to come give them the love they crave. If you don't have a good chunk of time to devote to a bird every day, you'll just end up feeling guilty and miserable for not doing the right thing by them. The best starter bird for a busy student or worker is a KITTEN.
Thanks Judith! You are exactly right on that! They do want to be with us all the time and it's not fair to keep them in their cage all day. You are always so helpful and encouraging thank you!! Hope you and your daughter are doing well.
Hey Victoria i just wanted to thank you for your videos on your experience with your birds, you've helped me out a lot with understanding green cheek conures before i actually got one, my green cheek conure is named spectre and he is a great bird with an awesome personality and your videos helped me learn about him and how i should interact with him, your videos really do make a difference to people who are looking into birds, THANKS A BUNCH 🐦
You know...I really needed to read something like this lately thank you! That is a big deal that you took time out of your day to let me that I've helped. Thank you so much and I absolutely love the name Spectre! Very unique I've yet to hear anyone else name their bird that. Wishing you and your companion many long happy healthy years together :) If you two ever need anything let me know and I'll try my best to help.

I have a Green Cheek Conure his name is Star, he was rescued from a horrible place, he was put in a cage and in a room on the floor by his self with no interactions with people, he was given to me for my birthday, ive had him for a years and a half, he will be 3 in April, I got him a huge cage and he can come in and out when ever he wants, I 've been watching your video's to learn from them, and we have come a long way, at first I couldn't touch him, he would bite, now he will fly to me he will let me touch him but only on his terms which is ok by me, and I noticed he loves watching your video's with Yoshi in them, he will start making these cooing like sounds it's really cute, so we just wanted to thank you for all your help

I’ve had my pineapple green cheek conure for almost three months now! He is a little ball of chaos but I absolutely love him. He loves climbing on the rope that’s in front of the mirror in our living room (update: we have removed this mirror to prevent any issues!), cuddling in the middle of the day and taking baths, surprisingly. I absolutely adore him and I watched a few of your videos before I got him! Thank you for this! I definitely learned a lot.
Wow! That’s nice to hear! Is he still alive? It’s been 2 years of your comment!
@@karimagha9462 Hi lol yes he’s very much alive and doing well! Still acts like a toddler though and we’ve removed the mirror to prevent any potential frustration. He’s learned to talk and say some phrases, he even can say his own name and sometimes will ask for treats. He also sometimes dances and bobs his head to music, at the moment he really likes dancing to bad bunny. Thank you for asking !!
@@alysvie omggg 🥹🥹 I wasn’t expecting you to reply ahaha. But wow! That sounds fun and cute. I was thinking to get between a sun conure or green cheek. I live in an apartment, I find sun conure too loud. So I’m rethinking my choices. What would you pick?? Sun conure or green cheek? I’m a bit lost here. Idkk between a sun conure or green cheek
@@karimagha9462 100% green conure, sun conures are much louder from what I’ve heard online. However, they can still sometimes be loud, really depends because, for example, my green cheek sometimes is a bit loud right when me and my family are leaving since we got him during the pandemic so he’s a bit attached. But they aren’t as loud as sun conures so I definitely recommend them :)
@@alysvie iv heard aswell. Iv done my research , and they say it’s really loud. I may go with green cheek if that’s the case. But I’m moving to a villa in 7 month or so.. you still suggest green cheek yea? 🤍🥹🦜.. do you take your bird for free flight? Like at the beach , do you bond with him a lot?? I’d love to know! I used to have a lovebird I’d love to show you videos and photos I took him free flight and took care of him for 3 month I had to sell him because as they say go big or go home 🤣😅. So I’m now most likely going to go for green cheek.🫶🏻 you’v convinced me already!!! I would love to see videos of your green cheek bird. Aaahh appreciate it , and much love!! Thank youuuuu.
From 2:26- 2:30 when she says they need extra time and stuff the green conure nods his head up and down like yeah! yeah! we do! Right! Right! 😂🤣😅 soooooo cute!
You have the best approach to bird care.. luv your channel xx
Awe thanks Lisa that is very kind. Hope you have a lovely week
What she said about certain triggers that make your bird act loud is totally true. My GCC only screams when he wants out of the cage, wants to jump to someone else's shoulder, or if its like 2 hours past his bedtime and I've somehow forgotten and kept him awake. In the last case, if we are home, he'll usually just fly into the floor (the pet store clipped his wings and I'm waiting for them to grow back) and walk himself to his cage as his way of telling me to hurry up and put him to sleep.
Omg that thumbnail was sooo cute

Hard bloody work tho lol
That little puppy running around is so funny 😂
I’ve never had a bird but I’ve looked after a family members bird while they were away on vacation for around 2 weeks and I really loved and cared for it (it was an Orange Roller Canary) and I’ve always wanted a bird ever since. I looked into the Conure because I really want a bird I can bond with and be able to tame and spend time with outside the cage (contrary to the canary). Useful information.
Love your videos! I have a double yellow amazon that makes less noise than my dogs. Every bird is different 100%!:)
I love your vids missy!!!!
This is a really helpful video! I have a friend who has a green cheek and I wanted to look into their care a bit to see what's involved.
I have my "first" bird at the moment but she's a European Kestrel so the demmands are a lot different (but I can go fly her in the summer so that's pretty cool).
Our pineapple green cheek is currently preening my facial hair. We've had him for around a month, he's a year old, and, despite being from a pet store, is quite a sweetheart. He's getting more comfortable and is kind of starting to play with toys lately. We put him in his cage for bed, main meals, and when we have to leave the house. Otherwise, he is either on his playstand or with one of us so he stays happy and quiet. He does do the call if even one of us leaves the room he's in, even if he's eating. He won't continue eating until the person comes back lol.
This helped me so much thx 😊
Just watching this to entertain my green cheek conure (pineapple). He's getting scratches and kisses.

The bird will always be there for you as for friends they can come and go.
This video has been so helpful, a lot to consider. I’ll have to really keep doing my research before I get one. I’ve always had parakeets so I’m curious to see the differences in breeds and how taking care of them differ.
That was really helpfull thank you

Yay!! Youre back! I was getting worried!!
Hey Steve ☺️ yeah I disappeared for a bit sorry about that. I hope you and your son as well as Ollie are doing good. Anything new going on with you guys?
Victoria Ryann not really. We got our house so Ollie has his own room. Sadly our parakeet passed away suddenly a few weeks back. We took Ollie to the vet just to make sure he was ok because he interacted with him alot. Overall, things are great. Adjusting to the new place. I think Ollie likes his own room though. I can get him on more of a schedule, and its darker and more quiet.
Its funny you said in this video if we are not home during the day take him out his cage into a play area. We have been doing that along with getting up a little early to hang with him, then he is with us all night. Works out well.
Oh no Steve I'm sorry to hear that... Did the vet say what the cause may have been as well as if Ollie will be ok? That's what's scary about getting a new bird you never truly know if they are completely healthy or not.
Yeah Ollie is fine thanks. I wanted to tell you I was watching a video of yours, and he about attacked my phone when he saw Yoshi on the screen.

Wow they are so beautiful :3
I’m considering getting a GC conure hopefully I’ll be able to get one this spring
This was posted on my birthday and I might get one for my birthday.
I work 6am to 2pm, i get home around 2:30pm and let my GCC out as soon as I get home and we eat a snack together. She isn’t very noisy and hardly ever makes noise but if I get home and I don’t come get her right away she will let me know she wants out lol. She is very messy and flings her food everywhere and bathes in her water bowel and also washes her beak in it so it ends up full of food. She is my messiest bird but also my quietest. I have a parrotlet and cockatiel and both make more noise than her but are much cleaner. My cockatiel loves to whistle tunes but in between tunes he makes contact calls and makes loud alarm sounds when he’s hormonal. I love birds, they are all so different and full of personality. I never regretting bringing any of them home.
Im a stay at home mom of a 3 year old and we just got one. My daughter is very gentle but I will admit… I am training both of them. It’s definitely a job and I’m so excited for it because I just adore our new family member. We have had our new baby bird for a few days and it’s going well. Bird steps up on my daughters hand and my daughter has learned she can only hold bird when I help and she has to be sitting down.. I have all day to spend with these 2 toddlers 😂 and I would say that having a lot of time is necessary because they require it.
I wake up and hour early anyway cause I have a fear of being late as crap
Please don't leave anymore 💔
Aweee I'll try not to thank you for saying that

I'd love to have birds again, but sadly my Asthma makes it impossible, despite having two air cleaners running 24/7 and daily cleaning (sometimes I even cleaned the entire room twice per day).
There's just nothing cooler than waking up with your birds, eat breakfast together, and just generally share your life with them, and I miss that so much. 😭
If you choose oil gland birds like conures instead of powder gland birds like cockatiels they don't really produce any dander. A small single conure could work just fine
