"you are the happiest person in this bunch" always brings a tear to my eye. The delivery is so sweet and yet it is so true. This isn't only about Laudna being remarcably well written, it's also about being remarcably well executed.
*remarKably (There are not many cables involved)
@@korpakukac LOL 😂
Props to Liams RP skills taking a point of exhaustion after that little discussion. I wouldn't be able to sleep after that shit either
"Worst thing that's ever happened to me has already happened" then look at at Matt's face
"The worst day of your life... SO FAR"
Idk about anyone else, but this line in particular reminded me of Marisha's experience with SA. On top of all the lore implications that I think most people caught on to, that is what made me more emotional than anything
@@junamboqcg2369 Omg, yes. 😮
@@junamboqcg2369 Excuse my ignorance, but what is SA?
@@IceMetalPunk Short for sexual assault. Marisha's talked about her experience with it before, and the way she describes Laudna's murder as well as Laudna's attitude about it reminded me of that
Tal's face when he realizes is priceless and the "what the fuck is up with that" is the gift that keeps on giving.
Being the warlock of your killer, that's torture.
Having begun to watch live from Campaign 3's start, but also having seen The Legend of Vox Machina, Holy Crap!
Oh man, everyone in the theater about lost their minds when Liam was about to roll for this and when he got it everyone started cheering and quickly quieted down so they could listen.
To quote Travis as Chutney, quoting Steven He, after hearing Oryms tale.
"Emotional damage!"
Did Marisha PLAN this when they were writing the animated show? Playing the long game... gott dayum...
I like to imagine her telling the animators: "Hey, could you make Vex's double look like this?"
And the animators being like: "Sure, any significance?"
And Marisha being like: "Just trust me.😉"
everyone: sad being quiet to not ruin the emotional moment
laura: “i wanna throw something at her”
god i love laura bailey
Splicing the clips from the show in was a really nice touch. Well done.
You can see the shit eating grin on Sam's face as she's giving her reveal. He clearly already knew about it offcamera, and was reveling in everyone else's reactions. xD
As devastating as this was, it's my favorite moment period
This is one of my favourite story points in the campaigns.
The entire spoiler is in the thumbnail. Might wanna change that for people who aren't caught up yet
Thanks for connecting the dots. I never watched C1 and I was missing a lot of important details.
Best character backstory I've ever seen! Life is a circle.
Cool how you put spoilers in the title but the thumbnail completely gives it away
Amazing. This is so well put together.
I adore Sam’s reaction through the entire thing.
Launda can’t even get revenge either for her death. Her killers are already dead.
I don't think she would even want revenge. Launda views that part of her life as not her own. So I don't think she has any anger towards the situation, maybe just a little bit of sadness over what she lost.
Or are they?
@@quietinsound8087 sylas is dead for sure but the necromancer lady idk
Even worse one of them is stuck in her head
really hope you didnt spoil it for people with your choice of thumbnail
The Sun Tree moment will never be the same again...
That's ok, I didn't need my heart anyways.
Wait...is Laudna's corpse in the middle? Like the focus is on her...that's spooky.
Yeah! The one with the dark hair 😱
Pleas change the thumbnail :(
This is actually sad and intense af... this show is fing intense...
What a twist! Damn I need to catch up
Chills.
Dude...what's the point of putting "(spoilers)" when the title and thumbnail are spoiler themselves, wtf! 😠
OH FUCK.
OH NO!
OH FUCK!!
Shit we saw laudnas death and probable resurrection and we didn’t even know.
When the show finally gets to season 3 and we get her origins in the briwood ark seeing it from an undeads point of view will be amazing. Watching your family die to then be murdered brutally, to soon after wake up a few days later suffering rigamortis, strung up to a tree. Force to watch helplessly as people are screaming, undead are attacking and the whole town on fire both literally and with holy magic. Pure chaos, yet somehow she gets away from all of that
nice thumbnail that spoiled it for me ... nice
Shed probably bluffing
What reason would she have in game to do that? Out of all of them only Orym MIGHT know about the details of the events 30 years prior and it's not like it's give her any status or renown among the people of Marquet. There's no good reason for her to be deceptive on a character level.
There's also no reason on a player level for Marisha to be messing with everyone. It's a good backstory and gel's with everything that Laudna has said. There's really no reason to skewer her character in the foot for a one time shock reveal that turns out to be fake.
@@Luinta yeah i know.. . Im just saying stuff..her backstory is tragic kinda feel sad for her is all
@@favlilnap ...OH you meant bluffing about being cheerful. I thought you meant bluffing about being on the Suntree. Sorry about that.
Laudna doesn't have red hair. She has black. She was strung up to look like Vex, not Keyleth.
Maybe it turned black?
@@pablothecoffeelover2551 I don't think death changes your hair color.
@@equusheart3344 well true but maybe she change after death I mean is not impossible right?
@@pablothecoffeelover2551 Maybe. Merisha hasn't confirmed any hair color change. Yet.. 🤷♀️
Vex is right to keyleth and it’s the best close up you get without it losing resolution
CHANGE YOUR THUMBNAIL!! PLEASE !!
literally anyone who gets into cr later on in the future is getting so fully spoiled by your thumbnail :( cmon man...
IRL if you listen to their personal stories from the interviews in Between the Sheets, a lot of Sam's life has been tough and sad and painful - but he's unquestionably the happiest member of the Critical Role cast.
I think it's funny that Liam so often points this out - that people who have gone through the worst are often quite happy, when he is personally rather brooding and melancholy. In one of their All Work No Play Podcasts Liam openly addressed the dichotomy between himself and Sam. Specifically that Sam had a really rough childhood and even his early adulthood was challenging where Liam's wasn't. He describes a privileged childhood, vacations to the lakehouse, and all that.
What the fuck is up with that?
As someone who grew up in foster care as a result of violent child abuse, I have no respect for Beauregard Lionett and anyone who considers her a good character. Beau and her fans are subhuman filth. There’s nothing redeemable about someone who knowingly, freely, and willingly puts their hands on a child.
What does Beau have to do with anything that happened here? She's a C2 character, this is C3 referencing C1.
Dang. Good job with the clip. This will probably go down as one of my top CR moments.
This is easily one of the CR moments
I always wondered why in LoVM they placed Vex's double in the middle; usually an artistic decision with group shots to highlight the importance or significance of a singular character. Now it all makes perfect sense, it was framing who Laudna was.
Which makes her a bonafide character in LoVM now...
@@louispatterson1385 They absolutely have to get this show running until we get LoMN and LoBH.
Especially with all the connections to VM it would be a shame to not tell us the story of campaign 3 as an animated series eventually.
Well in LoVM (even moreso than even the original stream) Vex is kind of the defacto leader of the group, I cant remember where but they did talk about that decision, and the groups leader is typically put in the center of group shots. I dont know if Laudna was already conceptualized when they were storyboarding that scene for it to have been for this reveal.
@@EdsonR13 Quite possibly she wasn't during the storyboarding phase, though I don't think it would be a stretch to say that their order could easily be changed later on before the actual animation phase, especially since that's one of the later episodes
They also make sure to show off her pointed ears! Which is why Laudna has those golden caps.
And the fact that it was quite possibly Delilah's Tide of Bones reacting oddly with Laudna's innate shadow magic that brought her back to life.
Watching the expressions on the other's faces as it dawns on them...
I love how they keep these twists secret from each other and then just shock the others when they're finally revealed.
I'm glad someone made a video and incorporated Vox Machina clips. Damn, its kinda cool Laudna beat the Mighty Nein and her party members from appearing in the animated adaptation. Its just sad that she started out as collateral damage of the Briarwoods cruelty before starting her journey as an adventurer.
Actually, Fjord and Jester appear on the cover of Tusk Love at Gilmore's shop in episode 3
@@AzureKyle aren't those oskar and Geneviere?
@@internettevarolanadam Idk, I thought it was Fjord and Jester, since it was a Half-orc and a blue Tiefling
@@internettevarolanadam it's both, sort of. It's just a funny lil clever easter egg call bag, yes canonicallly it is "Oskar & Gene" but the characterizations on the cover of the novel are Fjord and Jester
honorary mention to the DnD Beyooooond animated ad
It makes me wonder how the members of Vox Machina would react is they found out someone innocent killed for their actions was alive again. I imagine Luanda wouldn't care to get revenge or anything as she said it feels like not even her, it was a separate life time from her own.
I can imagine Percy being distraught and hugging Laudna, since everything that happened to her happened on his account.
@@bessieburnet9816 Well now I feel maybe Percy is the one who Laudna would want to get even with even a little. I mean the whole Pate thing comes off as her way of cursing the De Rolo's.
It's probably gonna come up again at some point with Orym's arc. I'd assume a Byleth appearance would happen at some point at the end of his stuff.
@@joemarais7683 You forget Delilah. She's in a warlock pact with Launda. We can assume her pact can be anything. Mainly finding a way to being her back and maybe even killing vox machina. I assume when Marisha made Laudna all she said to Matt was "shes one of the revived people Delilah killed and her warlock patron is Delilah". Leaving Matt very open to take whatever the terms of the pact are.
@@bessieburnet9816 especially since laudna is more than likely the one the briarwoods used as a likeness for Vex
Marisha is such a smart business woman and creative director its wild. What's the best way to hook fans who started watching CR with your new TV show? Link the character your playing to the events of the show so new viewers have something to relate to and figure out on their own! Its a fucking genius stroke of writing. It gets new fans hooked on the interconnectivity of the campaigns and makes them want to look deeper into CR as a whole. GOD Marisha knocking it out of the park once again.
and the fact she admitted this ONLY to Orym during a campside talk, it's beautiful.
I'm so damn glad someone else drew this connection.
The fact that Laudna is incredibly easy to adore as a character just makes it *much* better.
What’s even cooler, this is very red string and thumbtacks, but I like to think she came up with Laudna back in campaign two when they Travis’s haunted house thing. Remember who she was in the haunted house? I like to think that was practice for laudna
@Casey Johnson sort of… that was because Travis is terrified of the girl from “The Ring.” My speculation is that Laudna might have started out from the thought “wouldn’t it be funny if Travis had to adventure with his worst nightmare” and then evolved into something much more beautiful and deep.
AND ON THE ANNIVERSARY SESSION FOR CRITICAL ROLE MIND YOU BEING SHOWN IN CINEMAS AND SHIT
The way she bites her nails and plays with her hair! It’s perfect characterisation. So good….
Is it just me or does Taliesin look proud when he figures out who she is?
oh most definitely
He pretty much created and helped form Whitestone and the Briarwoods arcs, im sure he feels both amazed and proud seeing how it continues to be relevant
Proud of the darkness and plot twist?, if you wanna call it that
more like he's desperately holding percy back
@@zachhawn8720 Yeah, he said recently that Percy was *screaming* in the back of his mind.
Look at how Launda looks over at the guy the Brairwoods dressed as Percy. I think that might have been Whitestone Andy.
I think it was her father. She was separated from her parents _after_ the feast.
@@eric_moore-6126 I don't think so. He looks to young to be Launda's father. He appears to be around the same age as her.
That's also where the person leading them to the feast was. It seems to me like she's probably looking past him.
@@eric_moore-6126 Maybe. We'll just have to wait until more information is revealed. If more information is revealed.
Yes, that hand placement was very loving, like a girl crush.
Very well done. I remember my blood went cold when Marisha started talking about Laudna's death.
"the worst thing that's ever happened to me has already happened" says marisha.
"challenge accepted" says matts face right after.
jokes aside i cannot wait to dig into this campaign. as of posting this i am on episode 78 of campaign 2.
This is a masterclass of reactions at masterclass backstory reveal: Travis brief incredulous look towards Matt while biting his tongue at 0:49, followed by the facepalm, Ashley jawdrop and almost rubbing the chill from her body, Sam dawning grin as he begins to cotton on, Taliesin hybrid look of both awed surprised and holding back a scream, Laura's sheer gamut of emotions all combining into one, Liam just going ramrot straight in empathic horror while keeping in character and Matt little smirk full of pride for a master storyteller. And Marisha absolutely *Kills it* in the scene.
I think Tal said Percy was SCREAMING in the beck of his head during this.
The clues were there, but I didn't put it all together.
I love the look of shock in Ashley's face. She, for one, didn't suspect this.
Gorgeous editing, that ending made my breathe catch in my throat
Thank you for the spoiler on the thumbnail
i was unfortunately one of those people who hated keyleth. however i later learned that i loved beau. and this even furthers my respect for marisha and her ideas. i shouldn't have judged keyleth as marisha because the last 7 years has shown that she is probably the best roleplayer/actor of critical role.
Keyleth isn’t even bad. She’s okay
@@exsuspalp5078 Don't you mean "A" okay :)
Wow... hated keyleth and loved beau?? it was the exact opposite of me, i started with C2 and could barely stand beau and the when i watched C1 insta feel in love with kiki, and now its happening again with laudna
It was the same for me. Keyleth was the naive character of the group but it kind of felt worried to me that she just...wasn't acting her build. Which is fine but like when you play a Druid and Wisdom is your highest score but you are the least wise person of the party in character. it just comes off as dumb. It would be if travis decided to play Grog as a smart intellectual despite the 6 in intelligence he had for most of campaign 1. It often felt like Keyleth had a negative value in her wisdom and it was really off-puting. Trying to Skywrite when the dragons were coming to Whitestone is the biggest example that I can think of, off the top of my head.
Then she's playing Beau and she is just such a bad ass. Witty lines, super smart, has all these thereoies and notes and acts her stats. I stood up and clapped when she spent an entire episode just theorycrafting the last arc of the campaign when she was pulling out notes and talking about Eyes of Nine and what the relation was to Lucien and then her just working out the plot from there based on her notes and all the info matt had given throughout the campaign. It was amazing and its even more so when you consider just how much she got right about all that stuff.
I really hope they give Laudna a 2. Chance at living as a human in this campaign....She deserves so much better....
Don't you think the title and thumbnail are a little on the spoilery side already?
I keep rewatching this video. Not only was the moment itself shocking and amazing but the way this video is edited with shots of the animated show, just make it so much more impactful.
when I say i have Laudna's backstory speech memorized word for word I mean WORD FOR WORD
I'm gonna point this out as someone not caught up on campaign 3 yet: A spoiler warning in the title doesn't really matter when you give away the whole twist in the title and thumbnail.
yeah I figured it out as soon as the video was recommended to me. Was hoping to get to it myself in campaign 3 :/
yes ! jfc...im horrified. this is absolutely ruining the spoiler for ANYONE who finds cr in the future...
Seems like he changed it? At least the present title isn't very spoilery since you know quite early in the campaign that Laudna is undead.
Not really. The fact that it's called Laudna's Last day, and shows the hanging in the thumbnail (also with that title). The spoiler is the reveal of how Luadna died. What her ties with C1 were. This was a major reveal for the episode.
im going through campaign 1 simultaniously with 3. after binging all of all of campaign 2. i havnent gotten to the sun tree yet. i'm somehow more excited to see how this all turns out.
Glad to know other people ended up on that route too.
Oh man I'm so glad someone finally put together an edit of this!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!
EMOTIONAL DAMAGE!
Someone rolled a Natural 20 for that hit..
Should really change the thumbnail so it's not a massive spoiler.
At the beginning of the campaign I thought Laudna was a little much and even maybe one dimensional but as the series has gone on she’s such a wonderful character. And damn was that backstory reveal good.
AH HA!!! It makes a lot of sense now, knowing who her warlock patron is ;)
I've JUST got to this point in campaign 1... that was rough.
Thanks for the thumbnail spoiler!
Someone help me out here, Laudna was the hung woman on the tree that represented Vex right? She says she was there with her parents, but in the animated series, they didnt show her parents at the Briarwoods. If it is the vex woman then i can just go with it.
I saw somewhere that someone said Marisha confirmed Laudna was Vex's double. Also don't quote me but I think in the stream (not the animated series) Grogs double was older (not 100% positive though)
@@vladimircain In the first 4 Sided Dive episode Marisha did indeed confirm that she was the Vex double, not the Keyleth one.
It's really based when a player character ties their backstory with a previous character that wasn't theirs. Marisha did great.
I absolutely loved this bit, it cemented Laudna as my favourite character of C3.
Laudna was mutilated to resemble Vex and now she's girlfriends w/ Lauras character 😳
ah these are great! i usually miss the reactions of the players because i cant watch the stream all the time because i need to go to work in like 15mins after the stream starts. i listen to the stream all the way there and at work i can get a glimpse of the stream sometimes.
those last few exchanges of dialogue hit me... holy shit dude..
Taliesen is so proud, his face is fun to watch.
3:15 was some top notch editing in my opinion, cutting to black after "Yeah I gathered.." kinda gutted me lol. Just such a poignant and cinematic finish.
What music is playing in the background here? It's beautiful
WELL. FREAKING. DONE.
I just watched that scene and searched vids up and can't believe more peeps aren't talking abt this wtfffff
So wait was Laudna the little girl or the black haired woman? Where in the timeline is C3 again?
Daaaaammmn....fuuuuck...
Holy shite🥲
WELL HOLY SHIT... that's a way to have this come full circle.
Really love that I am on episode 5 and never searched for clips about campaign 3 and get this video in my recommended. Thanks youtube. My favorite character by the way.
Well I didn‘t watch the video but spoiled myself by accidentally seeing the video‘s thumbnail … -.-
Can you not put the literal spoiler as the thumbnail please? It's so damn obvious.
NO FUCKING WAY! That’s amazing
What is that music playing? It sounds so familiar but I just can’t place it
I think I watched this at least ten times. Its fucking amazing
Holy ducking shoot! What a story
:O my brain just imploded
I knew laudna was my favorite
This moment... unholy fuck.
Great job editing
Oof. Just... oof.
VERY well put together video!
People complained when Liam had a character tied to Campaign 1 and here is Marisha with a character from that Campaign. SMH
Did people really complain about mah boi Orym?
I’ve never watched anything other than this clip ~ why did they kill those people?
In the animated clips? This was a bit after Lord and Lady Briarwood returned to Whitestone, they ((lord and lady)) had met the PCs and was aware they were going to attempt to enter Whitestone, so they picked some people from Whitestone's population and killed them, before decorating them too look like the PCs and hung them in the Suntree, as a sort of sick welcome to their doom type thing
