Thanks for the review. I just ordered the Mulucky B805 model in maple. It has a closed back, but it's not a resonator as it has no openings. I'll be accompanying ukuleles so volume is not an issue.
Thanks for this video...there is so very little information available about this particular model so this was wonderful. I have a question about the strings you used for tuning to open G. You said you used heavy gauge strings, but the heaviest I've been able to find are "custom medium" (11,12,13,22,11). Will these be heavy enough to tune to open G without snapping?
Sorry to hear that! Banjos in general are pretty notorious for being hard to keep in tune. Also new instruments and new strings often need a settling-in period--it may get better with time, but if not, teach your kid to tune it themselves! A clip-on electronic tuner is indispensable for that!
I have bought similar banjo for my daughter .. I replaced the 4 machine heads with Grover open gear tuners ...but I had them in a box since they were removed from another instrument. Maybe your tuning has stability issues because strings are new?
The Deering Goodtime "mini" is actually a ukulele with a banjo pot (sometimes called a banjo ukulele or banjolele)--it has four strings and is tuned and played like a uke, not like a banjo. It's a nice instrument, but it's more for uke players than for banjo players.
@@thebanjophile3380 The Goodtime mini does not exist. I think he meant the Goldtone CC mini, which is very close to this Mulucky in size, length, pot (8") It is about $700. General quality, finish is obviously a bit better on the Gold tone ...but it still doesn't sound like a full size banjo : law of physics. Which is why this Mulucky is cool, because tiny sound for tiny sound, I'd rather spend $120 than $750 for a travel practice banjo which will never sound great anyway. As long as we can practice with it and bring it anywhere it's fine.

I have one of these I tuned mine to open G and so far so good. I used strings came with. Steel strings.
Is the resonator actually or is it composit material? There’s quite a difference in sound btn the two.

Then teach him how to tune the banjo I mean what's the point of knowing how to play an instrument you don't know how to do basic tuning on?

Not a fair review if you have changed parts on it. You should have played the original first
