I think this is 'Thug Me Ruide', but is NOT Altan?

I come from Irish parents brought up in England. I missed out all my beautiful culture feeling lost in England. Hearing this tugs on my heart

I think the singer is Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill I love her voice ! Who sang in the Bothy Band among others (Skara Brae, Relativity, Touchstone, Nightnoise, and with her sister Maighread Ní Dhomhnaill...)

I am fine thanks, very peaceful. I walk a lot in the mountains here in Italy, and teach English every once in a while. I have transformed a lot since we last met and have a lot of purpose in my life, it's great, and Italy is molto bello. The place where I live is ancient, nothing modern inside it, and has lots of festivals each year, one in May where every single resident gets into Medieval costume, long gowns of yellow, its really lovely. Your channel is great. I have enjoyed very much. Every blessing ...

Hi Guy & Jai, too. Yes, I gave this recording to Guy about 21 years ago, having recorded it on The Great Blasket island from Radió Na Gaeltachta. It is indeed 'Thug Me Ruide' sung by Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh and was released in 1987. Yet this sounds different to that recording so I would suggest it is a recording on vinyl from when Mairéad was very young, as there is clearly a different kind of tenderness to her voice here. Or perhaps it is a studio recording especially for the radio (Mairéad visits An Daingean sometimes and could have done this) or it is on record and recorded strangely. However I think it's an early recording from her youth. The lyrics end with 'A Stór Mo Chroí' which means 'The Love of My heart' or 'treasure of my heart' and the whole tune is clearly a love song to a young woman, and a lament (but you know this already by hearing the emotional expression, I am sure) Actually this tune is a composite tune of an older tune sung in the province of Ulster called 'An Caisideach Bán' - Fair-haired Cassidy, but this tune here only uses the first half of the first verse of that and the first half of the third verse of that tune, but the lyrics of the original song are very, very fine, in fact its pure poetry: songsinirish.com/an-caisideach-ban-lyrics/
the lyrics of this tune as far as I can tell begin:
I wandered down from the top of the Reek,
Down to you, over at Sliabh Bán,
In search of the girl who left my mind troubled,
And who turned my heart as black as coal
Which may sound severe but it is good to remember it is all about the way it is sung and expressed, not what is expressed in words.
      then
And isn't it strange how you tried to convince
The grass couldn't grow up through the ground,
That the moon wouldn't throw her light on Ireland,
That the stars wouldn't shine at the start of the night?
I will get back to you on the rest, but it is sung in Donegal Irish, different from other Irish dialects and is an Ulster including Donegal region song as far as I can tell.
      Beannachtaí, Simon
