    This is exactly what I've been wanting to do to keep the sound crisp! Thanks so much for the nice easy explanation. Love your stuff! ( I was this close to buying a separate peddle just to mute the mic so thanks as well for saving me £60-100!!) Lol

      ah that's awesome - stoked you found this out before needing to get extra gear haha. I tended to use a mic switcher which is another great option and means you can still keep you vocal in FOH whilst recording only guitar. Can be a handy way to go also.

    Pure GOLD!
    Of course the multiples of the audience if you have 9,10,11+ loop overdubs - ahh the noise! 😬
    This is a great example to have a mic mute. Love it. 👍🏻

      Cheers JP! Unavoidable when looping vocals of course, but I've seen some artists just end up with feedback issues by leaving the mic open and building layers - especially in small venues which is just downright frustrating!

    Thank you very very much for this. I actually bypassed vocals ALTOGETHER to avoid exactly this issue. I run only my guitars to the looper (bass, acoustic, and electric via a mini mixer) to an onboard mixer on my pedalboard and was send vocals directly to that onboard mixer and out to the PA. This sacrificed my ability to loop any vocals but I felt it was a worthwhile sacrifice to avoid the house noise "din" being mixed in with my guitar loops. Now I can have the best of both world's!

    I have a question: can you request the loop to pass a signal without recording and muting it? For example, imaging I'm playing my guitar and singing but I just want to record my voice and let the guitar sound or viceversa, record the guitar while I'm singing but I don not want the voice to be recorded. Do you know any trick (perhaps using external pedals) for this?

    does this have to be done for every channel? ie, 1-99? that you want to use it on? or is it set it and forget it type of thing?

    • @davidshanhun
      @davidshanhun  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Clydene - you need to copy the assign settings to each channel you wish to use it on, but the other system setting (loop fx pdl is fx on/off + assign) is global (applies to all channels).

    Hi David, love your channel. The LCD screen on my RC-300 has gone blank so I cant read any titles, input titles, or anything that requires use of the screen, editing etc..The red track numbers 1 - 99 are still visible, as are all other lights..do you know how I can fix this? Thank you

    • @davidshanhun
      @davidshanhun  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks. Haven't come across this tbh - without looking into replacing the screen and getting into the unit I'm not sure how you'd go. The only other way to make changes would be to have someone else with a functioning unit work with you on button presses so you could copy and change settings etc. Once you had it set up how you wanted you would be good to go for certain patches etc.

  • @AKA-g3p
    @AKA-g3p 3 роки тому +1

    Hey David, wondering if you have a suggestion for a mic set up suggestion for an RC30 loop pedal? At the moment I just feed the mic through my reverb and gain pedals to boost the signal and add reverb. Should I just get a dedicated reverb pedal for my mic so I can use the mic input at the back of the looper.

    • @davidshanhun
      @davidshanhun  3 роки тому

      If you have something working for you - you really don't need to change it. The signal for both guitar and vocals ends up coming out the same output on the RC30, so if you've got reverb and your levels are good then you won't see much noticeable change by using the mic input. The main reason to change would be simply for the ease of setting the mic gain!

    • @davidshanhun
      @davidshanhun  3 роки тому

      otherwise you could put the reverb pedal after the looper which could be another solution. 😊

    Thank you David! But is it possible with voicelive3 Extreme ?

    • @davidshanhun
      @davidshanhun  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Christine - yes it is possible. There's a few ways to do it - I changed the step button to be 'loop input cycle' on the VL3, that way I choose what the loop is recording, so if I'm only recording guitar parts, I set the loop input to 'guitar'. That means my mic is still working and I can chat to the audience or sing - but any of that general mic noise is not going into the loops. I talk about how to set it up in this video - it's #3. ua-cam.com/video/vuL4Oal_3SU/v-deo.html

      Go through the video at the start and set the assign as per the video - the only reason it will mute your instrument as well is if you are sending both already mixed to that mic input. Sorry to hear you didn't get it sussed first time around, and let me know when you get it or if you have further issues!

    Great vid. I find using headphones works brillaint with this pedal but if i want to use an amp instead then i barely turn the mic volume up as get bad feedback...do you have this too or know how to fix? Thanks.

    • @davidshanhun
      @davidshanhun  10 місяців тому +1

      hey brother! could be a couple of things but this is likely one of the most common misconceptions about the unit!
      Those three dials where it says 'input level' are not volume controls. To set the gain/level here - sing into your mic and turn the mic up until you see the red light flash, and then adjust it bit by bit down until the red 'peak' light no longer flashes. Once you've set it that is going to stay basically the same forever (unless you have a different singer who is louder or softer etc, or change microphones). You don't want to ever see that red light on when you're performing as it means the sound is clipping and adding distortion. For most people this means the mic input level will be set very low which is designed that way. Do the same to set your instrument and aux levels into the unit if you're using them. The adjustment for overall volume is only the master on the left (and the track levels).
      Secondly - when using your amp - make sure your mic is pointing away from the amp to reject as much sound as possible. As you create loops with the microphone it adds in more and more sound which in a small space also enhances the rooms natural resonant frequencies (what you're hearing as feedback). You'll get much less feedback naturally with the exact same setup in a bigger room, and by having more distance from your mic to the amp.
      Hope that helps and feel free to reply on how you're going. I realise this is a bit overkill for a youtube comment reply but hope it helps haha!
