I am currently vacating in Estonia and the Era of the Swedish Empire, when Estonia was Swedish is looked back very fondly here.
The Swedish crusade of Finland together with the Baltic crusades kind of coincided with the time of the Mongol which definitely disrupted trade and as such prosperity, especially as the collapse of the Kyivan Rus and them being brought into the Mongol economic sphere resulted in westwards trade declining from changed trade routes and the utter destruction of Russian population.
Simultaneously Kings and General's video on the Kyivan Rus also had a quote from some old historian describing how the birth of Novgorod followed what was essentially a warlord era brought upon Northern Europe by a successful rebellion by the Slavs, Finns and Balts against the Swedish vikings whose influence had dominated the local tribes, and form this chaos a Swedish Rurik would come to rule over Novgorod while the Baltics and Finns continued to remain divided amongst tribes. Basically the Swedish crusade of Finland in this context would have been more a return under more direct rule from the crown

The primarily chronicles account should be taken with a grain of salt. Rurik probably didn't exist, and it only goes back to Igor prior to the 12th century. Oleg is the true founder of the Rus and Igor got killed by a slavic tribe in brutal fashion (skill issue).

I was a little disappointed that Carolus Rex got no mention, and I knew that Bathory and even Amon Amarth aren’t big enough (compared to certain artists) to merit recognition: but then that Sabaton slide made up for it.
Sweden didn’t lose all it’s land outside of Scandinavia until 1815 when it lost Swedish Pomerania, and 1809 it lost Finland which too doesn’t belong to Scandinavia.
