- Join me for a 25 minute beginner friendly standing pilates class with optional light hand weights. This will be a ballet inspired class created to challenge you, improve your cardiovascular health, muscle tone, strength , stabilisation and, most importantly, help you feel amazing in your own skin. A great session if you're looking for a fun challenge with no pressure. All you need is a chair and some weights if you want to add them in. I'll give you the options and you choose what feels right for you. Do with or without weights, or use two water bottles as an option. Hi really enjoyed this challenging workout. I prefer the standing Pilates workouts because I now have a hiatus hernia and reflux. It is actually how I found you on UA-cam a few years ago. I wish I had this session years ago! I was teaching Highland Dancing and this would have been excellent "high cut" practice. This is where we stand on one leg with the other leg bent and turned out at the hip (so the front of the kilt is flat), just like we did in the session. The only difference is highland dancers start with the foot behind the calf of the standing leg and pointed downwards so that no foot can be seen from the front. The bent leg is then extended to the side, just as you did in the session. Oh, and we hop on the standing leg at the same time as extending the working leg. Of course, you may know this already!

Thank you, great for this 50 yo woman who's never done ballet! One question though.... the leaning over the chair exercise while lifting one leg behind. My hips were not square (first time doing such a move) so I just ran with the angle my hips and legs could give me. Or should we be keeping our hips as headlights pointing straight down in that one? Thanks, love your work!
Hi Karen, well done for doing the session. Great question and you are right, in an ideal world hips bones as hedalights pointing down on that move, very challenging so you may need to modigy height of leg lift or move closer to the chair if you find it very difficult. Hi Mary, these are just 1kg , I find that is enough as I've in;cuded a lot of isometric work so it's challenging on the rotator cuff muscles xx ❤️
