  • Scottish pest controller Daniel Maddock expected the police wanted to check his gun security. Imagine his surprise when they charged him with lying on his certificate application, because they appear to have muddled the word ‘physiotherapy’ with ‘psychotherapy’. He tells his story. We are at the Sea Angling Classic 2024, the richest prize in UK sport fishing, plus Ian Hodge talks clay guns, and Terry Doe is out to teach James Marchington how to shoot his airgun straighter. David has the news on the news stump, We are raffling Hoddy’s dogfood, and James brings you the best hunting videos on UA-cam in Hunting UA-cam. It’s all in this week’s #FieldsportsBritain

    ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY POUNDS!?!?
    There is no way that is a proportionate charge from a GP!

      @kwakamonkey Місяць тому

      It's a non NHS request so they can charge what they like. Some forces want a full medical history report and if the applicant is 60 or 70 years old that is a lot of searching as not all records are on computer . Some still on paper .
      I don't agree with what some are charging but I also don't like what some garages charge for their kabout either but they are free to set their fees as are these GPs.

      @kwakamonkey I'm glad the BASC offers the service for just £50.

      @@kwakamonkey I wonder if all the reports are completed in the Dr's own time, rather than whilst engaged as an NHS Doctor. Plus, do the staff there gather the info for him, whilst doing their other duties ?

    Can Daniel Maddock sue the Doctor. If the Dr got that wrong, what else have they got wrong. Needs to go to GMC about the GP beening incompetent.

    I suppose the moral of this story is request a copy of your medical records to check that they are accurate and don’t include any spurious conditions or ailments and always be circumspect about discussing your mental health generally, but particularly in medical settings. To borrow a phrase from a WW2 propaganda poster ‘Loose talk will cost you your licence’🤦‍♂️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

    I find it curious that an applicant has to complete any detail about their medical history if the police get sent a copy of their entire medical record. Seems a bit pointless to me.

      @user-zd7oi6hs9c Місяць тому +1

      The Police don't get sent a copy of the medical record. The Dr completes The form submitted by the applicant and returns it to the Police, after putting a marker on the applicant's medical record that they are a certificate holder.

    • @GavinM161
      @GavinM161 Місяць тому +3

      @guysingleton9611 Gives them the opportunity to say "you didn't declare this so you're unfit to hold a certificate". Same as them asking you to declare past convictions when they will already have access to that information.

    Be very careful what you say to your GP. Who knows what they are typing onto your medical record. Same when they ask you how many units of alcohol you consume in a week - they can easily right down that you are an alcoholic. A friend of mine was asked if he smoked - said he had the odd cigar at Christmas. Not long after, he was offered a smoking cessation group course !

    And so it continues, BASC, making all the right noises, beating their chests and claiming to fight for shooters rights no matter what….and then folding and coming to a compromise each and every time at best.
    No different to all the UK shooting organisations, too busy fighting with each other about who’s the best than joining forces and really, truly, aggressively opposing each and every restriction and bit of mistreatment of UK shooters. You know, like the NRA in America.
    And then we have your average UK shooter, terrified of saying the wrong thing, speaking up at all and far too lazy and apathetic to really do anything to protect his certificates. I mean he should be ok, they’re not after his guns….yet.
    And what if he got put on the naughty step by the FLO?!
    I’ve watched it for 40 odd years and been saying the same thing, shooters in the UK will reap what they’ve sown.
    Don’t waste your time or money on any of the weak, lame, bumbling shooting organisations , they’ve had their chance over and over again. As have shooters.
    There will be zero private firearms ownership in the UK, zero, much sooner than all the ostriches like to delude themselves believe.
    And then the moaning will continue, behind closed doors again, in case they get sent to bed early.
    Laughable.

    £180 is a price where the practice doesn’t agree in shooting. So it’s easy enough for the person in charge and it’s probably not even a doctor who writes it, but signature is added to. So many practices have business managers that make decisions that are all about protecting the practice.

    When i applied for my firearms certificate I got a copy of my medical record and my criminal record so any info I put in the application was correct. its easy to do and cheap. That way this can never happen.

    We know this was going to happen because the police and the MPs are now frightened that these weapons are going to be used on them. I don't know either way but it is a sorry state to be in because the police man may realise hey wait a minute my family or my parents may be involved with this so i am going to stand back and the army guys may think exactly the same. I would not like to be a labout mp right at this moment in time.

    A couple of certificates back, I agreed to allow the Police to share information via my Dr. if I suffered from anything that may effect my safety and the safety of others by holding a certificate. At the time, I thought that this was sensible. Move forward 5 years and the Police requested that I obtain a signed letter by my GP. I couldn't and still don't understand the significance of having this letter. It has no purpose - my Doctor and the Police still retain my permission to share information between them, so the letter becomes superfluous. This letter is basically saying, that at the time of writing I am sane enough to hold a certificate, but what about tomorrow, or the day after, or the next 5 years - will it cover me until my next renewal. The other issue is that I hadn't seen my GP for over 5 years, so does that mean that I'm a sane as the next man ?

    Field Sports Britain, please stop using nonsense adopted/imported slogans like ‘gun grab’, you’ve done it before and it really is ridiculous. This is a term imported from the USA between the ‘struggle’ of the 2nd Amendment activists/supporters and those who seek tighter gun laws and bans on certain weapons. Totally different there where they can own guns for ‘self defence’ or protection etc. so it does not suit us here in the UK.
    I’d expect you to know the process or at least do a bit of research before adding the commentary asserting that “In Scotland the GP sends the medical records directly to police so he has no idea what was in it”. No, we get the choice on the application form for the GP to send it directly, or to send it back to the applicant who will take it to police. This applicant has clearly been in some domestic previously and has told his GP he was suicidal (no timeframe so could have been years ago) and has either conveniently forgot, or just hoped the police wouldn’t be told/wouldn’t notice it on his records.
    At best he has not done his due diligence to ensure his medical records match his application, at worst he has deliberately lied. Either way, he instructed his GP to share his medical records, which was done, and the police correctly acted on the information they were provided.
