That was a tough episode, I would get rid of the 20 point limit but keep the -2 for going off the rocks and -2 for a reverse. I would treat this run of trucks as a test session and let them all go again.
Since this is a competition featuring many varied rigs I don't think its like a typical comp. Myself I'd drop the reverse penalty but keep -2 for lava. Maybe set a max penalty for a specific gate. Raise the limit from 20 because different rigs may do better at different gates. Then the videos wont be too short. Just some thoughts
A very important part of comping is, don’t make yourself obstacles between gates, don’t drive the shortest route, use all available space between gates and drive the easiest path to the next one, and bring your rig in the best possible position for the gate😊 Think there shouldn’t be penalties for using the flat ground beside the obstacle 😅
There's something that's never sat right with me when I watch other comp runs, and they all amount to a bunch of driving around at speed, then slow creeping through each gate. The easy path approach... I just don't like. Greenline is one long line, and I think rigs should have to try to run it that way. Think of it this way: if Deadline had gates on it, I don't think even a dozen rigs would have made it through.
Most the comps I've seen seem to do a limit of 40-50 points. Based off your garage I think you could still eliminate half the fleet with a 40 point limit.
Seems like the competitors should be allowed to use the area below Gate #4 to help line up for a more straight up line? I feel like the smooth, angled area is not foot path.
Great video! given your “qualms” with Redcat lol, would love to see your opinion on the Newer Ascent fusion. Have lots of rigs and also never was a fan of Redcat, but picked one up out of curiosity and was actually surprised how good and quality it was and how well it performed. I threw some injora wheels, Green inserts and XHX Pins on it recently and it’s done great
It's the same exact rig that it was before they threw shiny parts and de-tuned Fusion on it. They never addressed the geometry, the lack of gear reduction, none of it. The Ascent just barely manages to achieve a score of "nearly adequate." And AFAIC, it's an absolute dead end, because you can build something significantly more capable, more durable, more upgradable, and better looking... for about the same money. In a time when you can build a MEUS gold flake from the ground up for less money, or a Zoku Pro for the same money, Redcat has no defensible positions.
I do also like the idea of remove the point out system and just take the best half on to the next stage but that means you have to run group 1 losers again one week
I thought the camera person was retired after deadline. What a pleasant surprise they are back! I would leave your system. What i would change is we top 5 from each Class of rig at end forwards. Top 5 class 1, 2,3. After front 9 you can take class winners and do a one video ultimate class winner on somthing. Or just leave it winners by class.
I think 20 points is really hard, probably less than 10-15 rigs can do that. Maybe 30 points is better for know, and if too many people qualify, reduce it after this ends to 20 again Eskee should get a second run, we know he is more than capable enough to qualify I think the "floor is lava" idea is great I would restart again (running this same group), but only changing the points limit from 20 to 30 Also, what do I do for the Crawlimpics section on the spreadsheet? Do I put "gates done" and "points"? You decide
I think it's too expensive for what it is. They went full Axial-mode and overcomplicated something that was pretty great. AFAIC, $280 is into "10th scale territory." When Horizon was clearing out UTB18s for $150, it was amazing. I don't think a second steerable axle justifies the price.
@ I was wanting to get something not another mini and new to the market for a review and build and mostly to have another “big” crawler for when I drive with friends. It’s kinda hard having one person with a 1/10 and a few other people driving 1/18 or 1/24. But I just saw the new ascent18 scout🤷♂️ it’s a really good platform and I think it will be a blast. If I get one,I’m gonna put some 58mm injora mud paws on it. That would look awesome.
I know people expect a reverse penalty in a comp, but this is THE Crawler Canyon, and we don’t do reverse penalties. My vote would be to take away the penalty for reverses, but if those have to stay, then remove the “point-out” max and let everyone finish with 50pts.
Call me crazy, but Modified scoring: you only get charged for 1 reverse per gate, max -8 (gate touch) per gate.. so if you reverse and roll before a gate, but fail the gate, you only get dinged the gate.
Leave it all the same to get the numbers down for stage 4 but maybe run one of the DQ'd rigs from the broken and battered fellas on deadline to get the feel of the course so the first rig in doesn't have the fresh drive fingers dissadvantage
I like the firm 20 point limit, and I like the floor being lava. It increases the challenge. This is supposed to be hard. Trucks need to be eliminated. Or do they? If you want to drag this thing out, then advance the top two trucks from each group regardless of score. Sub 20 point runs would also advance. This policy would allow Esky to advance, which seems fair.
The driver was one of those solar-powered head bobbers (a cat) which fell off of a shelf and broke it's body, and the passenger is a LaLaLoopsy "yarn ball bear" from around 2011.
I'm probably in the minority, but I'd vote to take away the point-out, leave scoring as-is, top half advances. Floor can stay lava OR set mandatory/boundary lines with penalties if crossed.
You’re having more fun than a guy has a right to have. 🤣 The only thing I see that should be changed is, stop giving extra chances. You have set your rules and you should stick to them with every contestant. Also, in my humble opinion, there really should be a few other people there as witnesses to make sure you follow your own rules. 🤣🤣🤣
That was a tough episode, I would get rid of the 20 point limit but keep the -2 for going off the rocks and -2 for a reverse. I would treat this run of trucks as a test session and let them all go again.
If no crawlers made it, I would say change, but one did. It is possible so let it ride.
Stage 3 looks like it is gonna be a killer! Dang it looks really tough. I have loved the CRAWLYMPICS series from the beginning. Thank you
Since this is a competition featuring many varied rigs I don't think its like a typical comp.

That was an awesome event! It's perfect.

@@CrawlerCanyon I get your point, but it’s a good way to finish the course and not to point out 😅

Hope all is well Mr C, don’t forget to slow down over the holiday season.
Merry Christmas!
As long as Argentum makes it the point system is fine😂😂
you should have robokitty run the course as fast as possible. Points be damned.😂
Awe poor Robokitty . You tried your best girl !
love the tension like it is..... awesome work
Wagwan Canyoneros 👊
Howdy👊

Make it gates made, regardless how you have to get it done. Only points for knocking the ball off the gate.
Howdy👊

Mr.c, I’m thinking about getting a utb18 4ws. What are your thoughts?

I'd either keep the limit and have a heavy knockout rate, or remove the limit and best half of the scores go through

Esskey definitely got it raw

Could you give Robokitty a better chance by running narrower offset wheels
Leave it all the same to get the numbers down for stage 4 but maybe run one of the DQ'd rigs from the broken and battered fellas on deadline to get the feel of the course so the first rig in doesn't have the fresh drive fingers dissadvantage
Yeah, this will separate the contenders from the pretenders. I'd keep the scoring as-is.
Mr.C. keep the rules the same, & if needed, go by gates cleared for the next stage.
I like the firm 20 point limit, and I like the floor being lava. It increases the challenge. This is supposed to be hard. Trucks need to be eliminated.

Denied 🙅
@ denied what lol
When I hit the like. It said 0.

My opinion: Getting through the gates is hard enough. That's why there should be no penalty points for reversing. Maybe a reverse limit?

Where do RoboKitty’s cat heads come from?
The driver was one of those solar-powered head bobbers (a cat) which fell off of a shelf and broke it's body, and the passenger is a LaLaLoopsy "yarn ball bear" from around 2011.
These are gonna be short episodes 🙃
The cut off should be 25 and limit the contestants to wheel width to make it between the gates. Run the group again but w/o Robo Kitty.
i say keep the it the way it is -20 is hard
I think you should remove the point limit and let them run
Take the average take our 26 points...
I say leave it...but Eskie should get another go - he basically showed everyone else the problems!!!
I'm probably in the minority, but I'd vote to take away the point-out, leave scoring as-is, top half advances. Floor can stay lava OR set mandatory/boundary lines with penalties if crossed.
Strange point system, no point out would be better, and usually gates stay live, even when cleared already.
Rules.........dis is da way Sorcca started 😅😂 it should jus be gates made i believe.......
