You can hear several other groups doing versions of this song, but Aerosmith is the most respectful with the original. I first heard it by Areros and always remarked the abruptness of the start, quite raw. Suddenly the song starts with all its emotive charge. Then I heard few days ago The Shangri-Las. The same abruptness ( just the girl reads some lines before singing ). It quite intrigued me why the song doesn't have an introduction. Then I think I found the answer in the story of how it was composed. George Shadow' Morton wanted to become a songwriter. He approached his friend Ellie Greenwich who had some experience in the field. The girl's boyfriend, Jeff Barry, also a songwriter, got jealous, thinking Morton was just trying to involve her romantically. He asked Morton what he did for a living, he answered 'I write songs' . 'What kind of songs ?' ' Hit songs' said Morton, all this with his portfolio empty. Barry invited him to come back next week with some material, thinking we will never see him again. It is said Morton felt challenged and spent the rest of the day writing the song, first in a beach and then in his home shower. Next day he took the song to Barry who was impressed. The song was recorded and became a hit, and Morton became overnight a hit songwriter. The explanation for the lack of introduction for the song, its 'abruptness', its rawness, it is just that it is the first song of Morton and, on top of it. written under pressure. But just because of that, because of its 'sincerity', this abruptness have its own magic. ( Aerosmith's version is the only where the chorus REMEMBER ( quite hard to hear, it's true ) is sung as in the original version. Nobody else cares. )
I saw Aerosmith in March 1974 at the Baltimore, Md Civic Center them being my second concert after my first one that was Alice Copper's Billion Dollar Babies tour in 1973, also in Baltimore. Yes, I'm showing my age here and of the nearly 100 shows I've seen since I was 19 they've all given me some great memories.
I said this on another version of this song and I will say it again, no matter where you were or what was going on in you'r world at the time you first heard this song,it is a song that I myself can love every time I hear it, And that is when I play it myself. Areosmith is under played on radio,I guest that's why we buy cd's, or dvd's or even on record. We have come full circle and I will play it as long as I'm still breathing. Also hope to see them in concert again soon, lovethesmith
I saw them on this tour in Pittsburgh, January 1980, Scorpions opened up. Jimmy Crespo is an amazing guitarist. Loved this concert. It was my 4th concert, 1st was Boston Don't look back tour, 2nd was Kiss Dynasty tour, last with Peter Criss till reunion tours, 3rd was Foreigner Head games tour.
Saw these guys in 88 in the Wheeling, WV Civic Center, right after Permanent Vacation came out, still one of the best shows I have ever seen. Tyler actually did a backflip off a stack of speakers in the middle of a song. The opening act was a new band, just releasing their first album - Guns N' Roses :)
This is one my favorite songs! Awesome! Aerosmith my favorite rock band ever. Steven Tyler is amazing . No one sings like him. Joe Perry amazing guitar player.
great thing about Aerosmith was that their covers were as good as or better than the originals of everything they did - Come Together, Train Kept a Rollin', etc.
I was at this concert. Crespo could play. Great night. Fun times. Always thought Crespo didn't get enough credit. However no one can take the place of Joe Perry
Joe Perry and Brad Withford was gone for a while.. I understand the fans disappointment at the time but the other guys really did a fine job. It's not their fault there was too much drugs involved. Glad that we still can appreciate the good old days.. Especially me who wasn't even around !
Sorry guys ...Crespo is a dynamite player . He had the misfortune of trying to replace an icon. Eddie Van Halen could have replaced Joe and the fans still would have been pissed Too bad.
AThis one's good-- I"m looking for the one that was about 8 min. -- it's not cut off-- they play guitar solo until Steven comes back from getting high in the back and finish the song.. That's the one I was looking for.
@sueellen360 Hell yeah. Brad especially. Joe's an amazing raw-blues guitarist with great presence, and it's an extremely rare day that you see him even break the top 20, or even top 40, on people's "Greatest Guitarists" lists. Brads' amazing also, but he's much calmer on stage as opposed to Joe. I think they tend to be underrated because they're not really technical players or innovators. What they do have is great emotion. Like Joe's solo in "What it Takes."
From Night in the Ruts. I didn't see this tour, but I saw Permanent Vacation and 2 of the Pump shows. If anyone saw the Ruts tour, please reply. I'd like to know how it was.
Is that Hamilton voicing the antiphon vocal "Remember?" before "Walking in the Sand?" Great job by the rhythm section on the song, too. Tyler forgot some of the vocals and ad-libbed! Crespo looks like a cross between Jimmy Page and Brian May and sounds fantastic on the solos!
i love the original version but what they did to it is just indescribably awesome
listen to Jackboot's version
You cannot mess with classics.
Steven looked trashed there
No improvement
One of the best guitar solos ever
Yea, it is great but a bit sloppy, Joe is like that, sometimes spot on others a bit sloppy, but he is the best, well, him and Keith.
Quel saut dans le temps ! 1980 la meilleure décade. Remember en live rien de meilleur love love AEROSMITH
Jimmy sounded real good here. Best cover they ever did brings back HS memories. Great time period.

Damn good version!!!!!!!!!!!
+BeyondtheVeil Of Death for sure !!!!!!!! such a brilliant tune.
Steven making up the lyrics at the start. Classic. Love their version.
So underrated. This stuff is so great. Love this. I really like the more "raw" live stuff from them.
Hell yeah, me too
This is Crespo, not Perry (Joe is letting the music do the talking)
First time seeing something with Jimmy Crespo. What a version!
+Damian Delfino you can search for Aerosmith - Chiquita for more Crespo
Jimmy didn't play on Chiquita though he is in the video...Great song though!
Tiktok please stop killing the song 🙏🏽

Love this song. Steven had the greatest voice
HAS.
He’s still alive.
Ive seen them 6 times and still not enough.
DAMN! Jimmy Crespo was a great lead guitarist - esp. on this song !! Nice tasty licks , there !!!
This may be the best version I've heard!
Try "l'ora di piangere" by Lucio Dalla. It's an Italian cover from one of the greatest songwriter of Italy (and I think of the world)
After the pain and glory,he sing ....❤👤👤
I really love those ‘largo’ versions with Jimmy Crespo! I wish they would perform more like this.

love what they did with this, and no one hits bottom as beautifully as ST
Thx for always coming back through Memphis!💕
Jimmy kills that solo. I wish I could hear Joe play this live to have a comparison.
raiu0009 they played this song on their 2017 European tour
And they've just resurrected it at their 2022 anniversary shows and so far at the September Vegas shows!
They also played it in Japan in 2000 (that's the clearest recording with Joe on guitar).
No comparison.....
Joe f'n Perry!
very good! wow January 1980 still the rocking 70s
ditto Steven is awesome more talent than anyone should have. Mad skillz. Love them all.

Jimmy Fucking Crespo, what a sound!
Was he in Starship too?
Finally I found it!
Tremendo pedazo de canción La tendrían que haber tocado siempre en vivo !
Incrivelmente incrível... Até arrepia
Best version!
Unbelievable version my favorite forever!
This is one my favorite songs! Awesome! Aerosmith my favorite rock band ever. Steven Tyler is amazing . No one sings like him. Joe Perry amazing guitar player.

Rock roll never die
Jimmy crespo un talentoso guitarrista incomprendido
They all were in the zone. Wow.
I was 14 years old at this show.
Jimmy Crespo + guitar + stage = priceless
33 years after !!!
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!
one of the best aerosmith ballads ever... also, what a beautiful guitar solo (at the middle and the end)!!!!!
AEROSMITH FOREVER! LONG LIVE AEROSMITH!
I love aerosmith and Steven Tyler!!! \o/
Best guitar solo
Just amazing, I love that song, legend
I just love it when a band can take a fantastic older song and turn it into a masterpiece. Aerosmith did it with this, and it will live on longer.
Glad they're clean, but they sounded much more raw all coked up. This is bad ass!
This, Dream on MTV 10, and the Superbowl in Houston are my 3 fav Aerosmith performances
I love aerosmith when I was a little kid and aerosmith is a dam good band
Love this song, aerosmith 1 of my favorite bands. Tyler awesome this video in the wasted days, clean now hats off to u Steven.
A show like this would have been epic if Mary Weiss were to have appeared on that stage.
That must've been a great concert would've loved to have been there
I was and it was pretty good
great thing about Aerosmith was that their covers were as good as or better than the originals of everything they did - Come Together, Train Kept a Rollin', etc.
bob hoberg that's a fact
haha imagine being so bad at songwriting your covers are remembered more than your originals
@@perorin615 That isn't the case at all though, I could lkist 15 Originals all better than than any cover.
incredible! version what emotion
Levanta a mão quem tá voltando aqui em 2020 \0
brilliant cover
Oh wow this was the very first concert I ever saw I still have the ticket stub , Mother's Finest and 38 Special were the opening acts
awesome guitar solo at the end!! Jimmy Crespo really rocks! Tyler seems to be "very high"...
high and drunk
They are FUCKING AWESOME!!!
Lol I had a cold and my voice wiz really scratchy so I tried singing like that and it worked lol
I love this song♥
Aerosmith is the best!
THANK YOU XXX

Love Steven Tyler's voice!
Legends. Bam!
LOVE THIS.
💥💥subject to God! how hard💪💪 is too good !!!👊 💥💥
Jimmy isn't my favorite but he did pull it off when Aerosmith was at a low point, but I'm still forever a joe perry fan
Let's hear it for Jimmy Crespo!
I was at this concert. Crespo could play. Great night. Fun times. Always thought Crespo didn't get enough credit. However no one can take the place of Joe Perry
懐かしい歌だ ! まるで日本語が入って居るみたいですね〜ふざけせい〜 します?
スティーブの声 曲もいいです。
Joe Perry and Brad Withford was gone for a while.. I understand the fans disappointment at the time but the other guys really did a fine job. It's not their fault there was too much drugs involved. Glad that we still can appreciate the good old days.. Especially me who wasn't even around !

ESSE SAO OS DE VERDADE 🤘

He looks so rock n roll.
Best Night in te Ruts song.
エアロは、この曲で、不動に成ったーーデビュー曲も凄いが、地獄の歌も歌っている。
I'll never understand people that don't like Crespo.
Sorry guys ...Crespo is a dynamite player . He had the misfortune of trying to replace an icon.
Eddie Van Halen could have replaced Joe and the fans still would have been pissed
Too bad.
great song. the shagri las are awesome, and while I'm not that big a fan I think it's pretty neat that they'd do a tune like that.
AThis one's good-- I"m looking for the one that was about 8 min. -- it's not cut off-- they play guitar solo until Steven comes back from getting high in the back and finish the song.. That's the one I was looking for.
Jimmy Crespo in the ending solo shows everybody he could blow Perry off the stage, anytime, anywhere🤘🤘
i think he forgot the lyrics!!! HAHAHA love it!!!!
Haunting..
The time when people listening music with playing the instrument instead push button only.

Am I the only one that thinks those two guys that replaced that regular guy are f*cking awesome?!
I don't think Steven was conscious during this. Love this version, but I prefer my Aerosmith not quite so stoned.
From Night in the Ruts. I didn't see this tour, but I saw Permanent Vacation and 2 of the Pump shows. If anyone saw the Ruts tour, please reply. I'd like to know how it was.
Was fucken awesome
@@johnnywoods7496 This was there first time out without Joe Perry if I'm not mistaken.
Fuckin` great
