Just picked up a night birch today. No one comments on the fact that unlike the white birch, the night birch has horizontal slits along the indices which cause a prism effect allowing for rainbows of colour in the reflection. (same with green birch )
I agree. Get the night birch with titanium. The black face is anything but standard. In fact it is magical in it's texture and oh so slight sparkle. Yes sparkle! It is difficult to put into words the level of refinement this watch possess. It must be seen in person to be fully appreciated. That titanium will hold up to generations of use.
Was really looking forward to this video and it didn’t disappoint! Wearing my SBGP017 right now. I would probably go for the SLGA009 first and then either the SLGH005 or SLGH011.
I want a night birch dial with Spring Drive movement! hopefully this gets avail in future. The spring drive movement and accuracy is what sets GS apart from other mechanical watches, isn’t it? Nobody has such a smooth second hand movement.
I purchased the white birch spring drive last month. I love it. I preferred the accuracy and the 5 day power reserve over the hi beat. I looked at the black birch at the local boutique this week. It was too dark for me. I think the hands and markers are more visible on the lighter dial. The green is interesting but also looks very dark.
Great comparison. Also very interesting to note the Spring Drive (along with 9F quartz and Micro Artist Studio) versus Hi-Beat pieces are produced by Grand Seiko’s Shinshu and Shizukuishi studios, respectively. The chapter ring width, date window width, date font, and presence/absence of a hand stack cap as well as printed index alongside the date window are characteristic of these studios. So we also see one of the four birches reflecting all things unique to Shinshu while the other three reflect Shizukuishi. Yet the Evolution 9 case, hands, indices, and bracelet are identical. Wearing the SLGA007 you sourced for me, a fantastic piece with 9RA2 in steel. I’d go for the Night Birch to add some titanium and 9SA5 variety. And it’s the coolest black dial I’ve encountered. Look forward to seeing you wearing one in the future.
I Love my White Birch Hi Beat. It's dial is dazzling and changes beautifully in different light conditions. New movement is remarkably accurate and stunningly decorated. Perfect GS in my opinion. If I could chose 2nd it be the Minamo (lake Suwa) limited
I have the snowflake and the white birch (005). My 005 runs fast, gaining as much as 20 seconds per day. I sent it in to see if they could recalibrate it. It sounds like you are not having the same issue. How accurate is your white birch? +/- how many seconds per day?
I think they are all beautiful watches. I have a couple of spring drives, and a quartz GS. I would love the black birch in high beat. Let's see. Cherry blossom.....shadow.....clouds.....need a birch also! I am sure Steve would love to sell me one.😀
Wearing my SLGA013 while watching this (which I got from you all!). Since I have a black dial with the SLGA013, the white or green dials appeal to me. That said, I want to wait to see if they release more colors and/or more titanium versions. I think what caught my attention was the weight difference between the titanium and stainless steel.
I recently picked up a Black Birch in Hawaii from Ben Bridge while on vacation. I didn't want a Spring Drive since I have another GS Spring Drive GMT and Prospex Diver Spring Drive. I liked the black dial better than the others and the titanium is so light on the wrist. And according to GS their new titanium is harder and more scratch resistant than the other steel modeled birches
I’m planning to get the night birch because I fell in love when I first saw it in the GS boutique. The video I watched cannot justify how beautiful the watch it but I’m worried about the titanium case and bracelet. May I know how it held up so far for you?
@CQH From what I read the new titanium that GS uses is 3x harder than steel. So I'm not worried about putting daily patina wear and tear on it. My beater watch when I know I will be getting my watch scratched up us a Casio MR-G 7100 BJ. The whole watch is DLC Titanium. Almost 20 years old and no scratches on bezel/case/bracelet.
@@Noypi54494 woah this is impressive! I just did a google on that watch you mentioned and the released date was 2006. I tried out the night and white birch and the titanium piece is just so much better. Maybe it’s just me preferring a lighter watch so I can wear it for a longer period of time.
@CQH Night Birch is a very understated watch imo. My watch gains about 4-5 seconds daily. Less accurate than a Spring Drive if that matters to you. Very light on the wrist and I barely know I'm wearing it.
@CQH Some people dislike the lightnessn of titanium because they feel it seems cheap and light. I love titanium and Grand Seiko polishing on titanium is elite level.
@@Littletreasury Yah the High Beat movement is great but let's be honest if you get into a GS you need to get the best technology available. The swiss tried to get into it with no success. So why not have what other cannot.
Agreed with your recommendation. Tried on the OG Birch and it's quite heavy. Which might be OK if it had an adjustable clasp... Love my Ti Cherry Blossom. Less weight means far less emphasis on trying to get that perfect fit which for me is impossible anyway due to changing wrist size.
After watches and wonders 2023 the material of the year is Titanium. IWC , Rolex, and Oris are charging premiums. The Night Birch is the way to go and a value buy compared to Rolex yacht master 42 or IWC Ingoneir (spelling).
Seiko needs to make a night birch spring drive version. Titanium with a spring drive, power indicator in the back and a high contrast black dial. That’s the watch I would buy.
So, the titanium bracelet is most likely interchangeable right now --- the entire case is titanium though on the Night Birch too so hopefully we do see more full titanium versions!
Nonono, you can't make such a mistake saying SLGA009 is less visible than SLGH005! Because this Spring Drive is the most readable white dial with stainless steel hands and indices on the market, while the original white/silver birch is known as being unreadable in some angles...
Im wearing a Snowflake (SBGA211). I don’t like the fat 12 hour market and stubby hour hands on the birches. Otherwise i would have totally waited for the green birch.

I'm glad that you enjoyed this one -- I put a lot of work into it! Congrats on the SBGP017, and the SLGA009 is always a solid choice!
I will take all 4. Thanks for the review .

The green is interesting but also looks very dark.
You really can't beat the accuracy of the Spring drive! Congrats on your SLGA009!
@@Littletreasury with the white birch watches you sell what is the ratio of spring drive to hi beat?

Thanks Charles, hopefully I can pick it up this year (if stock market turns around)! Great info as well!
Great review of some very cool watches. I am wearing the OG White Birch purchased at Little Treasury!
You were #1 Mark! Glad you are still loving it!

I bought the SLGH005 because I’m taken with the 9SA5 movement and find the dial the most dynamic and fascinating.
SLGH005 is always a good choice, and the original -- congrats on that!
I own the 005 and it’s stunning!
GS is one of my favorites. I have the skyflake what makes me very happy. No I wearing the Baltic HMS 002, because it ist new and a very tiny beauty.
Thank you for sharing!
Excellent comparison of these apparently similar, but subtly different watches, all gorgeous, but now we know enough to pick our favourites!
Thank you! I'm glad that you found the video helpful!
I agree, the night birch looks fantastic
8:44 ... or if you're Irish ☘😁
Thank you for a great comparison! My head's now spinning with numbers, but there are definitely no more questions.
My pleasure!!! Please reach out to us when you are ready to choose!
Thank you that was a great review. Think I'm going to buy the SLGH005 soon.
My pleasure, and I'm glad that you enjoyed it! Please let us know when you are ready, we can ship to Thailand! (Where my wife is from)
Great comparison which wondering which birch to compliment my snowflake
Thank you! We can help you with that --- feel free to give us a call to chat about it. Contact info is in the description.
I love my 009 is it creepy precise, and feels like a faux atomic clock on my wrist!
Mine gusslThe watch arrived quickly and is in very good condition. I am ecstatic with my purchase and the excellent quality. Very recommended
The best review on UA-cam.
Spring Drive 5 days is the best

I'm sure that he would too lol! Give him a call, we have one in stock!
Can we get a video on the green birch? So little content on that one out there - would love more discussion on that dial color
Unfortunately it's boutique only and a friend let me borrow his for the video so that will be difficult

Congrats!!!! Great choice!!!
why do some people hate on the Titanium so much and would rather have Steel? Does Titanium scratch or dent easier?
Black birch for sure.. Titanium
Agreed!
why the hell didnt they put spring drive on the others?? wtfff
Would like to get the Night Birch but with Spring Drive.
I'm hearing this a lot, hopefully it happens!

Agree! My 005 was persistently nearly our of spec (+7.8 sec). That's really disappointing for a vaunted new movement. It sucks, actually.

Gotta catch(buy) em all! (Birches)
005 looks more birth to me
SLGA009’s date window is not that flattering at all.
$10k? Are they kidding? Big pass
Nice job, Chris.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
