He simply has the key to a happy life. He sees something he finds interesting and just trys it. He doesn't care what other people might think and he just joins in. I truly admire that.
I think it's a key that's long fought. When he had Francis, he was doing well, running things, living in a nice apt. As time went pass, what he strived to be became further and further away. Growing older and realizing the bigger dreams may be too big, yet, also relearning the beauty in the smaller things, the wonders of life, the wonders of a family. I watched this growing up, and now that I'm 25, it really hits different. The perspectives are all change. Dad's not a doofus. He's just a man trying his best to make life work for himself, and everybody he loves.
If I'm not mistaken, that's also exactly what the guy in the blue suit was doing. Hal reviewed some videos of him speedwalking and discovered that he made a little hop every few steps, which is apparently not allowed.
Hal was my favourite part of this show. the way he'd randomly just become obsessed with something and pursue it to the extreme was delightful. I loved the one's where he got hooked on DDR and playing with lego (where he was eventually overthrown and executed)
Bryan Cranston is one Hell of an actor! wish they did a reunion MITM movie or something before he gets too old and can still get into the Hal character and pull some shenanigans with old Reese, Malcolm, and Dewey.
Being a fan of his from MITM, I knew I had to watch Breaking Bad when I first heard he was going to be in it. It's crazy how he can flip the switch like that.
Hal actually got me into racewalking... for real. Also when Mum asked me to go get an avocado from the other end of the shop, then I got there and she said "wait, it's fine, we already have one." I discovered my talent then, I wish they had Racewalking obstacle courses because I made it through hordes of angry shoppers in perfect form.
This is one of my favourite episodes! If you know Hal, you know this is the perfect activity for him. The moment he finds out about race walking is iconic.
"Let's just thank God that he's on our side."😂 Hal is without a doubt, the best character in the series. Hell he even had a dream that he was a High School Chemist with Lung Cancer and made Methamphetamine.
One of the best episodes, imo. I've shown this to multiple people already as an introduction to the series. So far every single person immediately fell in love =)
This episode in full is probably one of my all time favorite 30 mins on tv. Its up there with the He-Man/She-Ra Christmas special. If this had a Skeletor cameo it would win out.
People have said this a million times already, but it's just wonderful that Bryan Cranston could be this ridiculous, cartoon character of a man and then turn around and be fucking Heisenberg. I don't know if there are too many other actors who have such extremes in their catalog.
I still remember the first time I watched this episode on TV. My little brother, who was like 4 at the time blurted out: 'That guy looks like Tinky Winky!' when the professional racewalker first showed up. Now it's all I can see when I rewatch this scene.
LOOK AT ME! I CAN WALK!!.... 3:09 and the entence oppsesen on why just Why?! This man is faster than Hal.... OH AIR!!!!! Don’t forget his alter ego Kid Charlemagne. Some say he’s still sticking it to the man from his undisclosed pirate radio station to this day.

This is a real Olympic sports where you get disqualified for running
Was at a relay race last summer that some team was disqualified for one person running like 10 feet. The entire crowd freaked out and so did his team.
If I'm not mistaken, that's also exactly what the guy in the blue suit was doing. Hal reviewed some videos of him speedwalking and discovered that he made a little hop every few steps, which is apparently not allowed.
It is allowed though. Loss of contact is only against the rules if a race judge's naked eye can detect it.
When you're an Olympian but didn't even have to run...
