I live just up the road from there. Bought Halloween costumes there as a kid. I bought my first CD there. It was the Ninja Turtles 2 movie soundtrack. It's being worked on now. Gonna be a Big Lots I hear.
Used to be Ames in Williamsport Pennsylvania on top of the hill across the way from the Little League baseball I used to go to that Ames lot and you used to be Hills to thank you for the videos and the memories
I've been past this Ames many times in my life but I don't think I've ever been inside here. There were several other Hills/Ames closer to home. (Blasdell, Cheektowaga, etc) Great stuff, Wallie, love/miss these old stores.
What is it with so many Ames buildings being abandoned since they closed in 2002? Is there a Ames building curse that only retailers know about & that's why so many remain abandoned since 2002?
The company that was hired to liquidate their assets still owns them. They want way too much for them. This one was finally sold or leased. Big Lots is going in.
Wow Ames department store look at that store it is so crazy that it’s still there sitting there after all those years. You got to think of the mold and everything inside of there. Well like you said that is In an area where there is nothing and no one around except for the neighbors that live right there.
Penn Yan had a Ames store when I was I kid my mom and dad would go to Ames to get our school clothes and our Christmas gift too.i wish that Ames was story here.
Thank you so much. That means a lot. Kayla does bring a lot of joy to something I already enjoy doing. So what was already fun has become even more fun than before!
This Ames store front looks exactly the same as the one that used to be in Middlefield Ohio. Sadly they tore out the old entry way and remodeled the old space to put in a Dollar Tree and Tractor Supply.
Thank you. I did the best I could with the ability I had back then. But you learn as you go on and usually can get better. I think by now, I did a better job.
its a shame how many stores are abandoned all over the USA ..many many jobs lost and so many of the buildings are just sitting there and most likely will be torn down..thanks for doing these videos
I know It makes me mad cause sooner or later there Isn’t even gonna be a Ames building that Is still abandoned why can’t the big box stores leave historic buildings like these alone
I used to work at the Ames corporate headquarters in Rocky Hill, CT back in the mid 80s. Terrible company to work for. They waited until after I started to tell me that I would have to work every Saturday from Labor Day to Memorial Day. That meant six days a week. Even worse, no overtime as I was a salaried employee. Needless to say, I made my stay a short one!
This store reminds me of Fishers Big Wheel.Same size rural area Discount dept.store and they suffered the same fate bankrupted by new Kmart moving in across the highway.Where I live now when Ames bought out Hills they closed it and sold building that is now a food processing plant and front is now a loading dock can barely recognize the place now as a Hills which was my favorite Discount Dept.store in 80s in Amherst. That replaced the original early 1950s Hills in S.Lorain that is now an indoor junkyard on Rt.57 & Homewood Dr.@ least that's still a recognizable very old school Hills. And as far as I know is the oldest still standing Hills known in the midwest.🧱BTW thanks for telling us that Ames bought out Zayres too, explains why our Zayres closed at the same time our Hills did which I never knew the connection til this video.🤔
I know I said this before, but don't know if you replied or don't remember. But not to far from me just over in Lancaster PA is a Kmart that is still open. It's a nice one and looks like it's been kept up and updated. Has a touch of the 90's in it. It has to be a well performing one because there's always a parking lot full. It definitely gets plenty of business. At this point it's not set to close. We go there a lot since the one in York PA closed. But yeah be awesome if you filmed there. Would be totally awesome to meet up with you there. Don't worry there's places to eat all around it lol. Anyway it's on Willow St in Lancaster PA. In the Kendig Square shopping Center
I've wanted to check that one out but heard the neighborhood is not very good and they have security that patrols the place. That's the only reason I havent done a video on that place yet.
If your ever in columbus you should do a video on this abandoned ruby Tuesday on 161 by sawmill, and i think theres still another abandoned food place in the same parking lot on the other side of the road
I don't know if there is a way but if you could get a hold of the buildings owner and ask if you could have the road sign. I have access to a bucket truck and all the tools to remove the Ames face plate. They probably left it up 'cause didn't want to pay anyone to remove it.
I would love to own the sign but believe me, when you stand underneath of it, it is ridiculously huge. If I had to make a rough guess, it's probably more than 15 feet long. Its definitely longer than the car when you see the car underneath of it.
@@WallieB26 yeah they do look smaller from the ground! It would be sweet on a large wall or on a garage/back of a house! We just take one side piece off and it should slide right out.
I am surprised dollar general hasnt looked at this. Being closed now for 17 years probably not worth updating all the mechanics and probably the roof among other structural issues.
It was supposed to but apparently the owner either ran out of money or they are waiting for the pharmacy a couple of stores up to close and they will knock down the entire plaza.
They could. I dont know what condition the roof is in or how the inside is. Could be okay or it could be moldy as heck. But it would mean there would be some new jobs in town as well as a store that's convenient for the locals.
I can't believe this is sitting there empty since 2002. That's crazy.
I'm 44 and I remember shopping there with my mom and brother.:)
“Sealed up tighter than a tuna can in a grocery store” probably my favorite quote of all time 😂😂
II so agree, so funny
:)
*_Can't go wrong with an Ames! Always awesomeness by the bagful!_*
I live just up the road from there. Bought Halloween costumes there as a kid. I bought my first CD there. It was the Ninja Turtles 2 movie soundtrack. It's being worked on now. Gonna be a Big Lots I hear.
That sign is awesome. I cant believe it has no holes in it and the reds not faded. Beautiful and great video.
So cool to find this all these years later. This is so close to me and the building was taken over and redone into a Big Lots a couple years ago.
Used to be Ames in Williamsport Pennsylvania on top of the hill across the way from the Little League baseball I used to go to that Ames lot and you used to be Hills to thank you for the videos and the memories
I loved that store.
There is a hiking trail in the woods behind the store.
Collins is a small town, I grew up in Collins
This store was open for 25 years? Wow!
Abandoned 17 years and still in great shape, someone must have looked after it well :)
Now it's Big Lots but knowing how the company is doing it may be abandoned again
This is such a beauty 😍😭
Crazy how it's still standing since 77. It's too bad that they didn't build any mom and pop store there or a pharmacy store since it's near houses.
Love that sign!!! So very cool to see this and awesome label scar!! Man I wish they were still open!
I'm kinda shocked an Ollie's Bargain Outlet or something similar hasn't moved in there or even a Dollar General/Dollar Tree/Family Dollar.
It’s a big lots now sadly
@@howellsretailexplorationra8774 Actually it's a good thing. Just looked it up online and the building looks great!
When you were walking through the grass beside the building, a thought popped into my head that said, “It’s another beautiful day at Ames.”
It sure was a beautiful day when we were there.
Awesome video👍👍.... that was really cool to see!! 🤘🤘Thanks!
Good revisit video Wallie , very interesting backstory to Ames. I miss their stores too!
That one day sale has some bargains by the bagful. This place is beautiful and that sign.

No I think the cities just don’t know what to do with them and can’t decide whether to repurpose them or demolish them.
The company that was hired to liquidate their assets still owns them. They want way too much for them. This one was finally sold or leased. Big Lots is going in.
It’s weird that nothing has replaced any Ames.I would think at least think a Dollar General would have bought out part of it.
Wow Ames department store look at that store it is so crazy that it’s still there sitting there after all those years. You got to think of the mold and everything inside of there. Almost identical store front as the one in my hometown (Lowville, NY). Half of ours is now an Advance Auto while the other half is still for lease.
It’s nice to see you back at the old Ames! This is one of my favourites next to the Essex Md Ames
I love seeing Kayla in your videos, I love seeing you two so happy together! 😍 I must say, you two are my favorite couple on UA-cam!
Thank you so much. That means a lot. Kayla does bring a lot of joy to something I already enjoy doing. So what was already fun has become even more fun than before!
I love the work on the video man
I Like The Song At The End
You should take it :) my grandmother used to work at that Ames
This Ames store front looks exactly the same as the one that used to be in Middlefield Ohio. Sadly they tore out the old entry way and remodeled the old space to put in a Dollar Tree and Tractor Supply.
Used to shop here miss this store.
Amazing what a beautiful thumbnail aswell! And your video quality is so much better than the last video in this place
Thank you. I did the best I could with the ability I had back then. But you learn as you go on and usually can get better. I think by now, I did a better job.
WallieB26 you always try your best with your videos and that’s what I like!
There's a streetview of that location from 2007 when it had the green and white Ames logo on it
its a shame how many stores are abandoned all over the USA ..many many jobs lost and so many of the buildings are just sitting there and most likely will be torn down..thanks for doing these videos
I seriously love you content
Update: As of 2022, this store is now a Big Lots
I know It makes me mad cause sooner or later there Isn’t even gonna be a Ames building that Is still abandoned why can’t the big box stores leave historic buildings like these alone
Why tho? Big lots sucks. Should've been a Dollar general or something. Or even better, left alone as an ames
I used to work at the Ames corporate headquarters in Rocky Hill, CT back in the mid 80s. Terrible company to work for. Would make a nice defunct store museum
That is a cool video we used to have a names like that around us
Thats okay im older than the sign 😄😄. Nice too see ames again. Where are all the good stores
Someday, I imagine Ames will come back

Well Wally I just found out the one and only Kmart here in Newport news Virginia is closing at the end of the year it was a super Kmart at one time
this Ames looks almost identical to the Ames in bright suns films thumbnail…
Someone is fixing it up lately when I drove by
For your next video, could you please look at the abandoned Wal-Mart in Bedford, Ohio? I would love to see an abandoned Supercenter
I've wanted to check that one out but heard the neighborhood is not very good and they have security that patrols the place. That's the only reason I havent done a video on that place yet.
WallieB26 oh ok. Figured I would at least ask. Nonetheless, you and your videos are truly awesome! Keep up the good work!
@@Nathan-xt6gz all good. I'll try to get to it if I know I can do so. Thank you!
I'm be honest if I'd gone to Ames I probably woulda liked it. Where I live, we didn't have Ames, and for me, the business was mainly before my time.
You know the store is old if there is a MAC (Money Access Centers) Logo as a payment method.
they busted the glass then they covered with plywood but hey thank you for another great video
Wow that's as old as I am.
Are there any children's palace buildings still around?
That parking light looks like the ones at Kmart in moon township
If your ever in columbus you should do a video on this abandoned ruby Tuesday on 161 by sawmill, and i think theres still another abandoned food place in the same parking lot on the other side of the road

Hey Wallie were there ever any Ames down here?? Kmart was
Bro I literally drive by here all the time
The logo was taken off this store in 2008
Can you film abandoned shop n save in the hill district I would but I dont have a way to get there right now
Ill be right back I have to unload a SEMA truck (Ames spelled backwards )or as James Madden called it A Cement Truck hehehe
I am surprised dollar general hasnt looked at this. Being closed now for 17 years probably not worth updating all the mechanics and probably the roof among other structural issues.
Congratulations on 18k Wallie
I thought Baden Ames got torn down you said that the first time you filmed it
It was supposed to but apparently the owner either ran out of money or they are waiting for the pharmacy a couple of stores up to close and they will knock down the entire plaza.
Great video wallie❤❤
Yeah ames
I think now it’s a big lots
Looks like a dollar general could move right in.
Buddy there's a BIG LOTS already using the store
Did yinz Ames today?
Wonder how the logo got taken down
If fell off over time. Anthony who doesnt live all too far said one day it was just laying on the ground.
Now that i got your attention i want to say can you please film a sears appliance and hardware store please wallie thx for riting to me
@@stevenlarabee9436 I can try. We have some Outlet locations near us. I did just find an abandoned sears appliance showroom today on my way to dinner.
Ok thx wallie
Cool
Baden store? Link?
Was this built in 1977?
They could turn it in to a dollar tree or a dollar general
They could. I dont know what condition the roof is in or how the inside is. Could be okay or it could be moldy as heck. But it would mean there would be some new jobs in town as well as a store that's convenient for the locals.
Are you going to film the Bridgeville kmart when it opens as a big lots wallie?
I have a question how long have you guys been dating
Probably a Buffalo Bills calendar in the back room..........
👍
Who thumbs down this stuff???
Dumbasses
What a waist of a building such a shame
Look at the thumbnail where it says Ames real big.
Get the joke?
