What’s ”achieving” though? Have you seen the other documteraries? They suffer serious physical and mental abuse from their coaches. No childhood whatsover. Their weight is checked constantly and they are on a diet with very few calories despite the many hours of extreme training for hours and hours every day. What is a gold medal worth seriously? And a moment of fame? A couple of these girls get a gold medal at the Olympics. The rest of them are considered failures by everyone including themselves. They fear to get kicked out of the team if they don’t perform perfectly. There is no life for them outside the sport to go back to. Have you seen how preassured the girls look at the competitions and that they hardly show happiness, just relief when they perform well?
I am sure they also destroy their bodies for life. And an injury and their carreer is over. They are told by their coaches that they let their entire country down if they don’t train and perform perfectly.
Seriously, would a gold medal at the Olympics make anybody happy except for a short moment? They have fame for a little while and then they are too old to go on and other girls take over. I used to be the best in my country in one particular sport. A super talent who never made it in the end due to injuries and the fact that I eventually couldn’t cope with the mental pressure. I ended up with eating disorders like so many of these girls as their diet is very restrictive. My goal was also a gold medal at the Olympics. And not making it ruined my self esteem completely. My whole identity was being good at the sport. I assure you the going up is NOT worth the going down. The short feeling of winning a gold medal, serously what is that worth?
Isn’t other things way more important?
A genuine self esteem based on who you are as a person as opposed to what you perform?

YES YES YES!!! I danced professionally and if you watch at 27:30 she demonstrates how to pull up with the thigh and use the hip for turnout. This is how you avoid injury-she also goes on from there to demonstrate when the leg is lifted above the head to use the hip on the standing leg and be aware of hip placement. If you watch their barre everyone is working from the hip there is no cheating to get the leg higher or cutting corners which leads to injury. I nearly fell on the floor it is very hard to find teachers who teach correctly in the U.S.A. 90 percent do not!

Karen Santos they go through an arduous system of measuring and assentiments as young girls in Russia. They only choose this prescribed model of a gymnast. In the USA we celebrate that everyone has her weakness and strengths. USA can out tumble them all as we allow the muscular gymnast to evolve. The Russians are usually better on bars as their measurements require the arms are longer.

Yes but it would be harder for you to get so flexible, kids usually start it at year 4-5 when bones are and still soft.
You can start but it would be hard for you...

Why ísn't there a bar on the wall for the streching? The chair is complaining...
I mean, you could make in foldable. You just put it up and away for practice by the barr.

I do worry that when they do the over extension in the stretches that they put their hands on their knees at the end, please put your hands above the knees on the femur not the knee itself, it makes me cringe the damage that could be caused.

While they are going ballet warmups they have no/little technique. Technique in ballet isn't just to "look good/graceful" it's also to help build the muscles. Im surprised they are not enforcing that more.

I am a ballet dancer and I also used to do rg they only do this for warm-up rg has nothing in common with ballet they dont care about technique at all thats why that looks nothing like ballet I mean no hate so sorry for my vocabulary but I am from greece

Yes because they are not ballerinas, they are gymnasts.

    • @ems31484
      @ems31484 8 років тому +91

Um are you aware that these are not ballet dancers? You seem unaware of the fact that these are gymnasts, not ballet dancers. If you want to watch proper ballet technique in ballet warmups, then I suggest you find a ballet-related video to watch, rather than complaining about how non-ballet dancers aren't ballet enough for you.
It annoys me when people are like "Oh, tee-hee, ballet dancers are just so much better than gymnasts!" Tee-hee, guess what? Gymnastics is a highly specialized sport, with highly specialized warmups. These warmups aren't "ballet warmups; they are gymnastics warmups. They are specialized and focused towards the sport of rhythmic gymnastics.
If you want to watch ballet, then the solution is simple: Go and watch some ballet.
But if you're sitting here complaining that gymnasts aren't "ballet" enough for you, then you are a dipshit.

ems315 THANK YOU! It really annoys me when some ballet fans look down on gymnasts and criticize them for their wrong ballet technique not knowing that rhythmic gymnastics is based on ballet but its technique is still very different. They don't need correct epaulement and turnout because this has no use in rhythmic gymnastics. Ballet dancers also don't need to do walkovers or ring pivots. I dance ballet myself but I love watching rhythmic gymnastics and these girls are amazing at their sport and deserve huge respect!
