They are one of the handyest tools when handling logs or larger Timber, when I worked on the section gang on the railroad back in the 70s I used one a lot to rollover big ties or Bridge Timber to get them out of the way or just to move them and so they thought that they had a bigger and better way so they threw the old cant hook away and of course I said okay if I took it home and they said sure we don't need that old thing and I've been using that old thing for the last fifty years and still use it! Thanks so much for making this video I'm going to send it to my grandkids which helped me with the wood out here but they never seen me use a cant hook and it's better for them to look at something like this then have Grandaddy to show them because a picture's worth a thousand words and I don't. Know much of videos worth but a whole lot! Take care my friend StayWell!
This video is just what I needed. I recently bought one about the same size that you used in the video, hoping to move some large diameter, heavy logs when bucking up rounds for firewood. The hook kept slipping and I didn’t think to help set the it by kicking it. I kept thinking the hook wasn’t big enough. Haha! I’m excited to add this tool to my tool kit. Firewood rules! :)
Thanks for the demonstration. I had some big trees cut that were close to my house so now I have a mess to clean up. I'm planning on getting a wood burning stove at my homebase and a small one in my camper van. I have enough wood to last till I die. I'm 60 with a two chronic illnesses, if I stop moving I'm done so it may take awhile but I'll get it done. I bought an electric chainsaw because I can't pull start anything any longer like a mower, generator, or chainsaw. Like I said I'll chip away at it a little at a time
I wasn't ever a logger but I always thought this was a Pie Pole. We have a really old one and I would never use it for fear of breaking it. Thanks for leaving the link for a new one. Hope you and the Family are doing well Rolland.
It's nice to have tools to do big jobs with, it was probably easier than hauling out the tractor, great demonstration Roland, you made it look so easy too, have a great day!
Ok, Rolly. I'm Confused, You called it by the correct name all the way through the video, and the Amazon Links have the correct name, Why did you put Cant hook in the title and description? Single point in line with the shaft, designed for breaking up log jams, is a Peavey, a much older took, with 2 points at 90 degrees to the shaft, designed to moved squared timbers (or cants) is a Cant hook. Peavey himself described the moving mechanism off the side as a Cant hook on his Patent application, because it was a much older tool.
@@GettingItDoneRepairs I love how search engines work... They never show 2 people the same information... I double checked that the information I grew up with is correct and only got 1 hit for someone calling it both, and that was another UA-cam video... No manufacture, wholesale, retail or museum hits for calling it both...
some times i hate you tube.. i dropped a comment min's after you posted and it's not even here lol.. i knew this tool as a peavey.. never knew it was called a cant hook as well. interesting. amazing what those logging tools can do eh
I know that was strange. I went to reply to your comment and it vanished. As far as being called a can't hook or peavey? Let's just say I should have done my title search before doing the video 🤣🙄 ... can't hook was the winner for title and for moving the logs.

Hey there. We always called them a cant hook, they work great for moving logs. Saves your back Thanks for sharing
A peavey has the sharp point, a cant hook does not.
You are becoming quite the lumberjack!!
It would seem that way. Thanks Deb. I must get over to your channel for a visit. Have a good day 🌞

What would you do if you did ot have all that wood! We are heading out today to find logs for our garde
I'd find me some wood. Load my trailer and bring it home. Lol

The reason I used it was exactly that I didn't to get out the tractor. It is easy, it's a great tool.

I'm chasing a better keyword for the title and I really wasn't sure about the true name. I searched online before hand and everyone calls it both.
