    This was amazing. I have told you I am a Stout and Porter lover with beer and when you kept describing how well it turned out even without the use of the nitro and all you did was change a tip, you made me want to try you made more and more. Thank you for brewing this and when you mentioned the name Guinness I also love their extra Stout as well.

    Great vid, We all know how important the water chemistry is with any beer, with that being said it would be very helpful to list your target mash and wort PH levels. I did see you point out your mash PH briefly. I believe perfect PH is the secret to all great beers along with other things but PH being number one. Prost! Keep those awesome videos coming!

    Great video! As always loads of good info. I always brew an Irish Stout this time of year for St. Patty’s Day, and the recipe isn’t too far from your own.
    For a 5 gallon biab
    6 lbs Maris Otter pale/ Golden Promise
    1 lb flaked barley
    1lb flaked rye
    1 lb English roasted barley
    60 min hop addition to 38-40 ibu.
    Usually this one comes in over the dry Irish stout carigory but I don’t care, it tastes amazing. Anyways thanks for the video and keep up the good work. Cheers.

    I don't have a keg setup, I bottle condition my beers, I have a export/extra stout from September last year, about 6% ABV and 45 IBUs
    I've found that if I pour it into a glass vigorously it releases the co2 and I don't get as bloated and it tastes creamier than when I just pour it softly.
    I've considered getting a keggerator but I just don't have the space unfortunately, but I'm considering getting just a small 2 litre keg from ikegger and just fill it up when bottling and serve it on nitro, or whipped cream cartridges, and that can live in my fridge door in the milk compartment. Id get one of those stout taps for sure, looks awesome!!
    BTW your weather seems whack lol, blizzard one day warm the next, I don't know if I would cope in those conditions, lol, I live in Australia I spose, winter nights some times -1 to -3° c and in summer can get to like 40 to 50° c in some places, although this past summer we barely got to 40° c at all, most days were nice between 23-38 ° c

    I think brewing a stout during a blizzard is a perfect fit. That thick creamy head is like pure fluffy snow on the ground, right?
    Not that I'd know as I'm in Florida and we get maybe 7 or 8 days a year we can turn off our A/C. :D
    Seriously though, I am a bit jealous of people who get changes to their seasons. We get about 10 months of summer, a week of winter and the rest is our "Summer Light" season.

  • @pourliver
    @pourliver 2 роки тому +2

    Great video, that stout looked awesome!
    I brewed my first beer recently, a"West Coast"! Got many problems (lower OG, higher FG), what surprised me the most was the lack of hop flavor. The hops seemed to hug the kettle during the boil, do you scrape the hop residue off during the boil? Either that, or my boil was too vigorous, just a guess. :)

    • @TonyChD
      @TonyChD 2 роки тому

      When did you add the hops? Closer to the start of the boil, more towards the end, post-boil?

    • @pourliver
      @pourliver 2 роки тому

      @@TonyChD I had my bittering at 60, then more "flavor" hops at 45, 30, and 0 + dry hop 10 days later!

    • @TheApartmentBrewer
      @TheApartmentBrewer  2 роки тому +1

      I wouldnt worry about scraping hop residue off the side of the kettle, actually its better to avoid getting that into the fermenter. I would makesure your hops weren't old and that you didnt expose the beer to oxygen during the dry hop or conditioning process. Also a higher FG will make your beer more sweet and can take away from hop flavor coming through. Might also be your source water

    • @TheApartmentBrewer
      @TheApartmentBrewer  Рік тому

    By the way, your audio was remarkably clear even for all that blizzard, are you using the Rode Lavalier Mic?

    • @TheApartmentBrewer
      @TheApartmentBrewer  2 роки тому

      Anytime! Yup, $13 vs $200 to get something similar to nitro is a win for me. So actually my recorder died on me during the storm clips, so that was actually the camera-mounted Rode videomic pro. The Rode lav mic is on for the tasting section clips though.

    I just brewed an Irish Stout which to me came out feeling a little thin. Your recipe gives me something to think about. Do you prefer Flaked Barley over Flaked Oats? I was hopeful that the flaked oats would add some body to the beer. Our recipe isn't that different otherwise. I used 2-row instead of MO, used about 1/2 the roasted barley you did, and I split up the Chocolate addition with 1/2 Chocolate Rye, just to see what that would do. Beer tastes pretty good, just feels like it needs a little something more. Cheers!

    • @TheApartmentBrewer
      @TheApartmentBrewer  2 роки тому +1
