Before i clicked on this video i was curious about what you could possibly teach me new here, since i already watched several videos from different teachers. Now i am realizing that no one taught me this what you just explained here. You really approach this topic systematically which is essential to efficient learning. Thank you so much for your efforts, even your drawings add so much charm to your lectures. Seriously people like you make youtube the greatest source for learning. Tausend Dank für deine Mühe
Good detailed video. All steps are good....we concentrate on these things and many times miss the speed limit sign during autobahn entry. I have seen most of the places there are speed limit signs aling side of entry lane. !
Great video ! May be one more scenario for brainstorming! What if I wait for the truck to pass me by, but behind the track there is another car coming at 100-120 KM/h ? Or may be bunch of cars passing on middle lanes 100-120 KM /h ?
An interesting thought! However, I am not quite sure how realistic this is. A truck passes you at lets say 93 kmh. A car following him can not go much faster, otherwise it would hit. At the same time the car has to keep a safe distance. In this case, you would have to use this distance to get into the same lane. One of my students once had the misfortune to encounter a very long line of trucks on a very short highway entry during his test. He let one pass and then accelerated so precisely that he was able to squeeze into the gap to the next truck. After that he had two options, to let the car roll out to restore the safety distance to the front or to move further into the overtaking lane. He chose second option (and later passed the test.) We never had such a difficult situation before in driving lessons and yet he was able to recall what he had learned. Please don't get panic, if your instructor thinks you are ready, you will be able to handle even tough situations! All the best Dario
@@fahrlingo Hi.. Thanks.. yes you are right. the situation that a truck and then a faster car does not mathematically make sense However it seems like that the challenge will be in case a series of trucks are on the middle lane (driving 80-90 Km/h) or worse case : series of cars with limited spaces driving 100-120 km/h..
Very helpful keep making these helpful videos. I am waiting for exam date but this is the part I am still not very confident about. So, big thanks for useful advice.
A great video, Thanks. My question would be how to read direction signs on Autobahn while maintaining the speed and checking the other traffic, specifically about merging lanes and speed limits. Thanks
Your videos are really helpful and very nice and detailed explanied. Could you explain what is the difference between Parking Lights, Standing Lights and warning lights? Thanks
Thank you very much Dario for sharing this tip. Could you please share a video for exiting the AutoBahn similiar like this ?My teacher always asks me to increase the speed so much before entering the Autobahn. When it is 50 km /h speed while entering and there are many trucks behind me passing can I wait in that lane by slowing down or braking to enter Auto bahn please ?
I think what was missing is that people driving on the motorway do not need to give way or slow down for cars on the acceleration lane. It’s even forbidden
Hi Dario, I am following your vidoes, but here you didn't explain one scenario, what if there is a convey or multiple trucks in a line and you have limited space (ahead) and you are on 50km/h speed. What should you do then? Please explain (although this is worst case but I want to know if this happen then what should we do?) Thanks in advance. 😊
Just follow your instincts on when to enter the lane. In case you are not able to make it to 90-100 and the truck driver doesn’t slow down, then better slow down and enter behind him
Don't do that, some highways entry in Germany have hidden speed cameras under the bridges pillars.. 60 to 70 kmh is enough to merge, given drivers anticipates and understands each other.
Thank you for such a great informative video. I’m just wondering that in case there is a coming truck/car on the left lane, should we not accelerate and merge before them? 🤔
If you can merge safely before the vehicle and the end of the entry lane does not stop you: YES! Unfortunately it is not always possible to overtake a truck passing you at 93 km/h when coming out of the entry curve . Especially if your acceleration distance is short. It depends as well on the capacity of your car. I developed this guide to help my students to take a decision more easy wether to overtake or to let pass a truck. All the best Dario
Hello, kindly make video for how to turn left in germany because some are simple but some are like when cars go from are left side not right during turning left and its confusing. how to understand that on road while waiting on ampel.
Really helpful content 🫡🫡. One question though, Can we change gear from 3rd directly to 5th or 6th depending on speed and skip the 4th gear?? Or we have to increase gear one by one from 3>4>5>6??
A nice question! You can accelerate in third gear to over 100Kmh and then switch directly to 5th or 6th gear without a problem. You can, of course, when reached 80 kmh (for example) while accelerating, change to 4th gear "in between". But during the gear change you have to let go of the gas pedal to engage the gear which can cost you a lot of time and in the worst case prevents you get ahead what makes changing lanes before another vehicle impossible. Therefore, to be on the safe side, I recommend my students to skip the 4th and jump directly to 5th or 6th gear. I hope I could answer your question. Best regards Dario
Hi Oh No! That is a nice suggestion. I will take it up as a topic for the next video, even though I have never had any of my students who failed it in 5 years. But I know that many are afraid of the parking task.
My driving instructor says when you are driving on the Autobahn with total 3 lanes, on the right most lane. And then 2 more lanes add on your way making it total 5 lanes on the autobahn, I as a driver now have to shift from 3rd to 5th lane which would be the right most lane. Is it a must to do so in the driving exam?
Short Answer: Yes! To explain it takes some more words :D Your driving instructor is basically right, because he refers to the principle of driving on the right. In Germany, you must always drive on the far right outside villages or towns wich includes highways. The lanes on the left are only allowed to be used for overtaking. This enables a more efficient flow of traffic allowing higher speeds. If 2 new lanes are added to the freeway LEADING TO THE SAME DIRECTION, you have to change lanes on your own in order to get to the right-hand edge. If you stay in the middle and change lanes only after being requested to do so, you will fail the test. Often, however, 2 more lanes are added to redirect you to a different highway. You can recognize this by the signs above the highway and by the short but thick stripes that separate the outgoing lanes from the straight ahead lanes. If the examiner remains silent he wants to continue straight ahead. In this case, stay in the right lane for straight ahead and do not change to the outgoing lanes to your right. Hopefully i could answer your question. Kind regards Dario
Yes, I understood your answer. The problem sometimes is that, at 120 kmph on the autobahn sometimes its too late to shift to the right most lane. Is there a specific sign or a small trick to be prepared for it? I am thinking to remembering the route by watching the google map satelight image of the autobahn.
Hello Laura! I think there was a misunderstanding. The first step when entering the highway is to change to third gear to be able to drive 50 and faster. Please do not use the first gear! As your driving instructor has told you: The first is used only up to a maximum of 20 Kmh. For driving up Highway, you use the third gear. Sorry if my English is not 100% correct.
Thanks for your question! Legally, you must stop at the end of the acceleration lane. If you already have your driver's license, however, I would rather drive over the acceleration lane further into the auxiliary lane behind it to prevent stopping at any price. Because driving onto the highway from 0 to 100 is very dangerous. In the exam you would not pass in both cases because this is not really necessary if you have acted correctly before. With some training you will manage to merge even into small spots in between of passing cars or trucks if necessary. Kind regards Dario
In 10 minutes, I learned with you what my driving instructor couldn't teach me in 4 Autobahn lessons. This video is a gem!

It is a law that around 200 meters after an acceleration lane there has to be a speed limit sign. If there is none, you can push the pedal
Great explanation.
Really creative ...Highly appreciable

My teacher actually told me to accelerate to 90-100, because the trucks will slow down/make space on seeing our speed.

In Duesseldorf the sped lanes are very short and less time to make those decisions. What do we do?

@@fahrlingo thanks a lot. This is very clear now. 😀
If you still cant enter due to many trucks and you have come to end of acceleration lane- can you stop at the end of acceleration lane?
