Dominions 6 is a turn based 4x strategy game suitable for both play vs AI, player vs player. Team play vs AI or players also works great as everyone can do their turns at once. The game has a huge variety of units, spells, magic items and different nations to play.

Would love to hear more about how rituals fit into the game. You mentioned the armies passing by and just getting harassed by rituals, be curious to know what that looks like in practice.
I would say "don`t put your forts next to each other" rule is not critical. Especially for nations like MA Ulm or MA Caelum which can move resource generating mages to any fort and turn it to a production point despite of natural resources that fort has.
Oh yeah that's completely true, you can have very good reasons for putting forts next to each other, either for defense or if you have a way to counteract forts stopping the pull of resources from other forts, but I see that as an exception from the rule rather than the rule itself. But still, very good point!

I often build mage forts close to enemy borders. This is risky but it solves two logistics; transporting magic items to commanders ready to defend or raid that enemy and have newly recruited mages close by and ready to join the army. I think my tactics work better in single player and worse in multiplayer. :)

I would certainly say that's a high risk but high reward strategy, if a concentrated enemy force comes in and you're not ready for it that would be a lot of research you could be losing! You will at least have the mage support for a good defence of the fort and if you have the gems you can do a good desperation summon before the siege. The main thing is it works for you!
