hmm it is a close call i own both (2007 passat estate and 2010 mondeo auto) and interior quality is a little better in the vw though the mondeo is apparently more reliable (i say tht as i only just got the ford)
I was at a ford dealer looking at a flagship vignale model priced at £31,000! It was like being on board the starship enterprise...so many toys and a sea of leather. It was a bit out of my price range but a very nice car indeed.
I drive a mark 4 Mondeo in Chill Silver. Spacious, comfortable and a beast of a motor. With a boot like a skip, personal number plate and exceedingly good looking, this car is the best I've ever had in 47 years of driving.
Tremendously good-looking car. Titanium spec is all you need for great exterior and interior features. The 1.5 D engine is plenty powerful. The infotainment runs well when you master it. USB drive and voice commands are better than in the Insignia.
Think twice your decision. I owned Mazda 6 for 6 years an now have Mondeo 1.5 Ecoboost. Mondeo is faster, more qiuet at highway, better accelerates, brakes and handles. It's simply better car in my eyes.

Agreed. I had an MK7 GTI (2016) that I loved, but ilt was showing signs in year 2 that I shouldn't own it out of warranty. I now have a 2021 Mazda 3 turbo hatch and all is well.
I have a 2016 Titanium X with the 210bhp bi-turbo 2ltr diesel. My only complaint is that it is so quiet at speed you forget how fast you are going. Better looking than the German competition. It has more bells and whistles than a troupe of Morris Dancers.

Have a Mondeo MK 4.5 Estate and never have tall people ever complained about space in the rear. A friend had the 4-door (5-door?) version and was also very pleased with it. The only thing that bothers me is the bulky bonnet. But overall I'm happy with my purchase.
Fords 2.0l ecoboost is phenomenally fun to drive. Our 2013 Fusion looks nearly identical to that car. I love that hatch opening rather than the cramped lid style.
I always compare Ford to VW when buying a new car. Never bought the latter, even though build quality appears to be better and the cars are more practical, a Ford is always more of a pleasure to drive with and look at. Often at a more reasonable price when you start speccing options too.
They are very different cars, one is fun to drive and one is boring but more comfy. That's basically the main thing you need to decide on when you're comparing these two.
ThrillSeeka Campervans the worse reliability wouldn't be such a big problem if VW cars weren't so expensive to repair. It's approaching premium brand repair costs when it's anything but. The interior quality used to be better in VWs but with the new generation Fiesta and Focus it doesn't seem like there's a big difference anymore.

I work for british car auctions and I inspect and drive 500+ cars every year, 3 cars every day, and the 3rd car of the day I take it home and the last car I collect on a friday, I take it home over the weekend, so I'm a car person..and I can def. say, this Mondeo is NOT better than the Passat..why? Well it's easy ,because it does not have the same built quality and driving raffinement as the Passat. The Passat has brilliant soud proofing , great suspention ,confortable but at the same time stable and planted on the road, on the inside all finishing touches are just perfect and all the switches you touch feels soft but sturdy at the same time ,it feels more expensive than it is, it feels really solid and well built , and for those that say it has a boring design 😂 well you must be stupid to say that because it's not boring, it's just a simple and elegant design and I love cars that have simple designs,it's just a matter of taste 😉..coming out of the Passat and driving the Mondeo , you instantly feel that the ride quality is less raffined, in the way that the suspention is not so confortable and noisy ,sound proofing is not so good, you have a lot of road noise at low speeds and suspention noise on bumpy roads and on the motorway you have more road noise aswell as wind noise , the design and quality materials of the interior feels like it's made out of recicled plastic cutlery , and the finishing touches in the mondeo are just crap..oh yeah, and the 2.0 diesel engines, sounds like an old Transit van, and it's not just me , all customers and drivers say this , so no, you can't compare the Mondeo with the Passat, it just doaesn't have the same built quality as the Passat 👍
How ironic . They are shamelessly recommending the diesel version. With drastic new regulations around the corner against this type of cars. You might en up with a perfectly good car but not knowing what to do with it due to the increasing restrictions or additional charges to keep it on the road.
There are 2 USB's in the center storage along with a SD card slot and power socket, another power socket in the under dash storage hole and a power socket for back seat passengers. It's worth going for the optional full size spare wheel as without it there is a step in the load area when the rear seats are folded down.
I own the 13 Fusion. It is identical to the Mondeo in looks. In fact when I ordered mud flaps, they didnt come from Mexico were my car is build, they came from Germany were the Mondeo is built.

Im currently in a 2009 model (ex-fleet car) and the seats inside are like a luxury hotel. Its like the UKs version of a Cadillac, but more economical and reliable. Ive never owned on before and got it through desperation as my other car needed replacing. Its made me a fan of the model thats for sure 👍

Eye candy indeed, the presenter is nice as well hehe !! I own a 66 plate Ford Mundao 2.0l diesel Titanium with Powershift transmission. Bought the car for my business and it's a cracking car. Good mpg on a run, usually around 55mpg approx. In the 40s around town, so not bad for an auto. Mine's now got a few chips and knocks on it, I'm keeping it for a good while so not too worried. There is a reason why Ford cars are cheaper. It's called build quality. I can't imagine spending VW money on a Ford anything. They are budget friendly lovely cars that get the job done in almost every aspect and that's it. The ride quality is smooth but get it into a corner and your passengers will quickly realize that having an assist handle is a must.

Bollocks I don't know what people like you think cheap and nasty is, they use good materials and it's a simple functional and modern lay out that's very well screwed together. Compared to a BMW interior where they just don't know when to stop designing these are really nice. You want cheap try a GM interior or a Kia.
Nice car but length is now too long. Most would agree that it needs sensors all round and a reversing camera as standard. Also Some Zetec etc models didn't have parking sensors even on rear. Diesel will be better but 177hp can be a touch thirsty. All cars should have manually adjustable seats, no need for electric adjustment which just adds unnecessary weight.
Anyone who has ever driven Passats and Mondeos through the ages will know the following: Passats feel more luxurious Mondeos are more of a driver's car
This model looks awesome in that colour and with those nice rims. But the base models look awful with the 16" alloys which look too small for the body. Nice job here 👍
Ford has a real challenge on it's hands here in Australia. The Mondeo has not taken off and the Ranger is Fords biggest seller. Once upon a time, Holden, Ford and Toyota were the top 3 brands. Now only Toyota remains a top 3 contender while Holden (GM) and Ford barely keep in the top ten. Im sure the Mondeo is a very good car, but Ford screwed people over regarding customer service surrounding the DSG controversy. Car companies need to stop screwing around consumers, they spend millions on R&D and should get thing correct before theh hit the showroom, be that Ford, VW and so on.
I quite like the new Mondeos styling, much prefer it to the Passat. Although to be honest I think Ford should ditch the name ‘Mondeo’ and come up with something fresh and more appealing.
Now I drive a mrk3 Skoda Octavia as it fits that gap bigger then a Ford Focus but smaller then this mrk4 mondeo. The mrk3 Octavia is the same size as the mrk1 and 2 mondeos big enough for me
Looks a bit dated / cheap from the inside, looks great from the outside. The satnav systems graphics resemples that of very early Android version 1.6 and which looked dated in 2012.
The later Mondeos are by far more elegant than earlier models, but VWs build quality and longevity would sway me unless someone could push me the other way. :)
Glad they ditched the sync a phone with the car bit. This review is much crisper without it and more enjoyable to watch. Also good to see 5ft 4 and a half is back.
Unless she is a professional driver I can't believe the statements that this car is "eager" around the corners compared to any of it's competition. May not be the worst but "eager" I'm not that sure.
nice looking car , but id buy the skoda and have piece of mind knowing it will do over 300k no problems where the mondeo will be scrapped buy that time . The colour is Ruby Red pearlescent, i had it on my Mk2 cortina .
Bigger than a 1990s Granada and Scorpio I assume? The thick front door pillars are a problem that affects any new car these days. The ones on my 2003 Nissan are thick enough.

I’ve had had three mondeos two mrk 1s and a mrk2 great cars this mrk4 mondeo is so much bigger infact it looks bigger then the Granada which ford used to make.
I own a Hybrid Titanium X 2017. The fuel consumption in the summer is better than the 1,5 diesel and in the winter it use more fuel due the el motor kick in very late and very sparse, but still better fuel figures than a 1,5 gasoline turbo. I love the car, but the front seats are a bit short with soft side support and the nav system is so bad I use my phone instead. Otherwise I'm very satisfied with the car.
@@abdalsalam4625 The average fuel consumption is 0,5 Liter pr. 10 Km in the summer and 0,6-0,70 in the winter when there is snow and ice and you need to warm the car up before driving and the battery don't kick in as often. If average speed on country roads is 80-90 Km/H it is 0,35-0,45 in the summer and 0,45-0,50 in the winter.
Isn't this is the 2015 Ford Mondeo? The Technology in 2017 Ford Mondeo is more advance with some slide change in interior & exterior designs. But my country is also selling 2015 Ford Mondeo design only.
I had a 2009 XR5 and it was a seriously driver focused car. Quality was excellent as well. I feel that the newer models lack in both areas. Opel and the Koreans, have better propositions imho. If Ford addresses the somewhat outdated design, up the quality of their interiors and offer some better engine variants, they’ll certainly make this car a winner again.
No sign of the 2.7L V6 EcoBoost engine that the Fusion gets in the USA? Boooo! I miss my old ST220. Got 2.5T Mk4 Mondeo now, but it just ain't the same...
I have the Fusion, Mondeo's twin in the U.S. It wish we could have gotten the hatchback here..... Love the car, the suspension is a bit stiff for all the potholes where I live.
I do like the mondeo, but what they've done with the boot on the modern hybrid versions is just batshit insane. No clue how they tyhought that was acceptable. In the end I went for the Opel Insignia over the Ford or it's competitors
In the states all cars are required to have a reverse camera. I’m also six foot four and have no problems in the back. However nine times in ten I hit my head getting out.
Although I like this new Mondeo from the front, I think it always looks heavy at the rear-proportions look wrong. The estate looks better I that respect. Great review as always Rebecca and I see the Banana made an appetence again.

I prefer the infotainment system of Ford itself, not the Sony one , it looks cheap while the Ford one looks very tood. Also, when you take a titanium edition, you get an electrical opening boot.

Parking sensors are needed as the front of the bonnet is out of view even with your head touching the roof.
Its only the current generation Ford Focus that is cramped inside due to the dash taking up to much space. The Mondeo has plenty of space inside.

The 1.5Tdci is the most efficient 4 or 3 cylinder combustion engine I know of. Also ULEZ compliant.

Ford has a real challenge on it's hands here in Australia. The Mondeo has not taken off and the Ranger is Fords biggest seller. Once upon a time, Holden, Ford and Toyota were the top 3 brands. Now only Toyota remains a top 3 contender while Holden (GM) and Ford barely keep in the top ten.
Im sure the Mondeo is a very good car, but Ford screwed people over regarding customer service surrounding the DSG controversy. Car companies need to stop screwing around consumers, they spend millions on R&D and should get thing correct before theh hit the showroom, be that Ford, VW and so on.
I Predict the kia stinger would out sell in total numbers.
I quite like the new Mondeos styling, much prefer it to the Passat.
Although to be honest I think Ford should ditch the name ‘Mondeo’ and come up with something fresh and more appealing.

Now I drive a mrk3 Skoda Octavia as it fits that gap bigger then a Ford Focus but smaller then this mrk4 mondeo. The mrk3 Octavia is the same size as the mrk1 and 2 mondeos big enough for me

Looks a bit dated / cheap from the inside, looks great from the outside. The satnav systems graphics resemples that of very early Android version 1.6 and which looked dated in 2012.

The later Mondeos are by far more elegant than earlier models, but VWs build quality and longevity would sway me unless someone could push me the other way. :)
Glad they ditched the sync a phone with the car bit. This review is much crisper without it and more enjoyable to watch. Also good to see 5ft 4 and a half is back.
Nice car with an improved interior. Usually the interior quality use to put me off when considering buying a Ford.
Unless she is a professional driver I can't believe the statements that this car is "eager" around the corners compared to any of it's competition. May not be the worst but "eager" I'm not that sure.
in Belgium you can easily find the Mondeo 1.5 petrol Business class NEW for 17370 pounds. Smart buy.
nice looking car , but id buy the skoda and have piece of mind knowing it will do over 300k no problems where the mondeo will be scrapped buy that time . The colour is Ruby Red pearlescent, i had it on my Mk2 cortina .

Bigger than a 1990s Granada and Scorpio I assume? The thick front door pillars are a problem that affects any new car these days. The ones on my 2003 Nissan are thick enough.

Had a 2020 2.0 tdci 150ps manual, great car. Will probably get a used one 190ps automatic now, vignale for sure
I own a Hybrid Titanium X 2017. The fuel consumption in the summer is better than the 1,5 diesel and in the winter it use more fuel due the el motor kick in very late and very sparse, but still better fuel figures than a 1,5 gasoline turbo. I love the car, but the front seats are a bit short with soft side support and the nav system is so bad I use my phone instead. Otherwise I'm very satisfied with the car.

@@abdalsalam4625 The average fuel consumption is 0,5 Liter pr. 10 Km in the summer and 0,6-0,70 in the winter when there is snow and ice and you need to warm the car up before driving and the battery don't kick in as often. If average speed on country roads is 80-90 Km/H it is 0,35-0,45 in the summer and 0,45-0,50 in the winter.

Isn't this is the 2015 Ford Mondeo? The Technology in 2017 Ford Mondeo is more advance with some slide change in interior & exterior designs.
But my country is also selling 2015 Ford Mondeo design only.
I had a 2009 XR5 and it was a seriously driver focused car. Quality was excellent as well. I feel that the newer models lack in both areas. Opel and the Koreans, have better propositions imho.
If Ford addresses the somewhat outdated design, up the quality of their interiors and offer some better engine variants, they’ll certainly make this car a winner again.
No sign of the 2.7L V6 EcoBoost engine that the Fusion gets in the USA? Boooo! I miss my old ST220. Got 2.5T Mk4 Mondeo now, but it just ain't the same...

I have the Fusion, Mondeo's twin in the U.S. It wish we could have gotten the hatchback here..... Love the car, the suspension is a bit stiff for all the potholes where I live.
Pat Bonz Potholes in the USA? I thought they were a British speciality! Anyway,my 2015 Mondeo Titanium smooths them out very efficiently.

I do like the mondeo, but what they've done with the boot on the modern hybrid versions is just batshit insane. No clue how they tyhought that was acceptable. In the end I went for the Opel Insignia over the Ford or it's competitors

I prefer the Passat, particularly in high spec GTE or R-Line specification.
It looks classier and more expensive than the Mondeo.
In the states all cars are required to have a reverse camera. I’m also six foot four and have no problems in the back. However nine times in ten I hit my head getting out.
Although I like this new Mondeo from the front, I think it always looks heavy at the rear-proportions look wrong. The estate looks better I that respect. Great review as always Rebecca and I see the Banana made an appetence again.
Darren Hughes I agree but the estate boot is actually smaller than the hatchback. So I bought the latter.
Its a bloody sexy car. I love my MA 2.0L TDI (Mk4). 7.6L per 100k around town is good and I take off quicker then most.
mine is a 2010 zetec auto the gear box is so smooth on it and the quality is as good as my other car a vw passat estate (b6 2007)

glad i bought the 207bhp diesel before it got discontinued, will maybe worth more if i ever come to selling it.
I prefer the infotainment system of Ford itself, not the Sony one , it looks cheap while the Ford one looks very tood. Also, when you take a titanium edition, you get an electrical opening boot.
