I totally agree with him. Trust in what you know and you need to take that leap of faith and hope the quality you show in your craft will encourage others to come and visit. Do nothing and nothing will change. If it doesn't work just learn how you can do better and keep trying.
He didn't say "trust in what you know" or "from the heart".. Don't put words in his mouth or describe him a different way. He said God, an alignment with God, & able to lean on God, and he mentioned Prayer, and he persevered in doubtful circumstances (lack of items at one time, and when others said he's crazy to open-up) bc he had faith in his God, and reaching out to people through his foods 🥑🍌🥥🍔🥣🥧🍤🦞🍗 and positive attitude & encouragement to others. He mentioned 'peace' in his heart about things. I think his God is Jesus & the Father. You can see his niceness & decency & the humility in his dignity. He doesn't have the vibe of a Muslim.
When I was living in Melbourne and especially during the horrible COVID lockdowns Melbourne imposed, Gai Wong's chicken rice was one of the reasons that kept my sanity together while I was away from home. Every time I have their food, Its always transports me back home and it is the closest thing that I can get that cures my home sickness. I dare say this place sells the best chicken rice in Melbourne, period. Thank you Uncle Lip for opening Gai Wong in Melbourne, can't thank you enough!!
Thank you so much for your really heartfelt story. This is the reason we do what we do, we love hearing about the real life stories that come out of the restaurants we feature.
Wow what a phenomenal representation of a customer experience on the other side of their mission. Hope your son is well, bring him back when he’s older :)
I have been there several times just because I was looking for great chicken rice. I did not know that there was such a heartwarming backstory where the owner openly shares his faith and how God has blessed his journey. A timely reminder to put God first in everything. God Bless you, your family, and the business Uncle Lip. Will make a trip down there soon now that I'm craving for chicken rice.

Gai Wong's food is absolutely fantastic, and Uncle Lip is an all-around lovely guy. Wife and I visited for the first time with our little first born during the early months of opening. I remember we each got single serve sets, but the food was too good and I had to get more. Got another 700g chicken on the spot and I was a happy man (yes, it's that damn good) I recall Philip looking shocked to say the least after I ate nearly 1kg of chicken plus other sides and asked me for feedback and what I thought about the food. I could feel he loved the food and genuinely cared how everything came out and wanted to make sure everyone would enjoy it. I no longer live in the area, but try to visit for a meal whenever I'm nearby. Best way to describe Gai Wong's food is hearty and comforting, and makes you feel at home. @AaronChen91 yeah. It was on 452 City Road. We were thrilled when planetshaker opened! Unfortunately, due to residency application, we sold the business. Thank you for you support!
That's exactly how chicken should looks like. The pinkish hue is myoglobin, not blood. I used to think it was undercooked this way, but man... it is SO much better?! We've been overcooking chicken our whole life. The internal temps to reach for chicken is only 165 farenheit or 74 degrees celsius. That's like... a very hot bath, roughly 25 degrees short of boiling water (in celsius). It's not that hot at all. It is SO much better, just melthing in your mouth, and the fat is rendered perfectly! Also - I'm a childhood cancer survivor, too! Yay!!!
