I'm really enjoying Gmail, drive and photos. Can't wait to explore more of the workspace
I very much like uniformity and the Google set of colours was always my cuppa tea, so yeah, waiting for it in some excitement. Especieally if you use a Pixel phone you have that blissful feeling of no need to set up yet another account, like the Samsung Account, Apple account and so on. Let's do it.
Great video and the rebranding is pretty nice and refreshing.
I like the general idea, but prefer the old icons. The new ones are easy to loose in a see of other apps. It is harder for your eye to visually distinguish the apps from one another. I guess they address that by making every app essentially a part of every other, but I can see a ton of complaints from the laggards in the staff. Me: "Are you checking your emails or working on that urgent report?"
Other person: "I don't know, it is one in the same these days, really..."
So true. Feel the same, as the icons all look so similar they will be hard to distinguish quickly.
new icons look hard to tell apart
That's like saying letters are hard to distinguish because they're all the same color.
@@a-DAN if letters were all multicolored in the same jumbled way, they'd be alot harder to tell apart, yeah.
It's like a party up in the Google folder on my phone
@@a-DAN I think that's a bad example, @1 1 English letters are mostly very distinct shapes, while Google's new "workspace" icons are all very boxy, & are covered in lots of colors. It's hard to tell them apart from a glance, especially if they're small icons in a grid or tab. There was a reason every app had its own color scheme, & were grouped by shape. Triangles for Play Stores, rectangles for documents etc, so-on & so-fourth. I understand the want & need for branding, but the old icons were perfectly good, & homogenizing them this much defeats the purpose of having individual icons to some extent. I'm sure they'll make them more distinct in the future.
I don't like the new docs logo and I'm not sure about the Meet logo, but other than those I like them

Simple. Assuming you have Android, download Nova Launcher and you can make the icons whatever you damn well please.

Microsoft are well ahead in this workspace concept. Really excited to see how Google will make this different.
I agree although I still think Google's way ahead in productivity vs Microsoft's online tools.

Appreciate the video. The majority of it focused on Icons and colors and the concept of a unified workspace. What's still lacking and will continue to keep Google Workspace out of the financial business world is its inability to provide supervision tools without third party integrations. Google Vault is archaic and lacks useful email supervision tools beyond export, forced TLS requires third party routing, chat history still lacks supervision controls, Chat within GSheet for example are not captured. I could go on for some time. Google is a long way away from the Financial Industry standards.
But for my small hobby business it works great!
Here's an example from their EDiscovery and Vault page: "Collection-After you search for data, you can export it for processing and analysis."
Really?! Isn't Google supposed to be the best at processing and analysis? They continue to get you to the finish line but can't cross it.

I am a huge Google fan. However, I am tired of Google being inconsistent with their internet services. First, Meet is a Gmail feature. Then it moves to Gsuite. Then they rename Gsuite. Then they change the app icons when you are in the Workplace, while normal users have the old icon design.
Will those apps come for android phone ,by when will it come

I quite like all the new icons, except the calender one, it feels kinda jarring.
Still hope they won't drop Duo for their stupid Meet though.
Duo is for casual consumers. Meet is for formal business meetings
Duo is the FaceTime competitor. Meet is the Teams comptetitor
Google's trying to take both consumer calls and business calls on at once - which is why no other company has two different apps
@@tomfarrellpm Microsoft has 2/3. Skype for consumers and Teams (and Skype for business) for enterprises.
The only reason Apple doesn't have a business-oriented video calling app is because they don't have their own office suite.
But you explained the reason Duo shouldn't be killed yourself, Duo is for consumers, and Meet is for enterprises. There is a fundamental difference between the two. They want to get rid of it because it is "confusing" which is bullshit IMO. Duo was just gaining traction as well, with Samsung's phone app getting integration with it. But that's Google being Google I guess
@@MarnixUwU You can always tell when Google is going to kill an app/lineup, because the announcement comes after years of no updates or changes. Google doesn't kill anything out of the blue, or anything they're pushing as hard as Duo. You could tell Play Music was going to die - it had been neglected for years. You could tell Daydream was going to die - it had flopped and Google's latest phones didn't even support it. You could tell Hangouts itself was going - its time had passed, Google has stopped pushing it and was obviously focusng on other efforts.
Nothing points to Duo being killed, as it is being pushed more than most Google products, and is recieving new features and continous device support
(Edit: i don't think I'd describe Skype as a consumer product, more of just a mess. It isn't the same, portable, casual product as FaceTime or Duo - it's a clunky and formal video call product. But then again, it isn't geared towards businesses either. I definitely see Skype going soon, or being massively overhauled)
@@tomfarrellpm Valid points, 9to5 Google reported it ( 9to5google.com/2020/08/14/sources-google-meet-replaces-duo/ ) so I basically just assumed since it wouldn't surprise me at all. YT Music is still shite and all that.
But since then I haven't heard anything about it so I guess it won't happen. Or at least not for a while. Strange how Google didn't just say "no we're not killing it yet" Oh well, my bad!

Google still totally missing the point about Contacts/Social Graph being super important. This is the core business of Sales Force, Facebook and Linkedin (part of MS)... It hampers more and more Google Workplace.

I don't like the new icons, because it losess that human touch that the old calendar, mail, photos and maps had. Which were beautifully designed.

Every Google icon is beginning to lose visual distinction and clarity at a glance, which I think adds to uniformity but hurts productivity, especially on mobile handsets. It's not surprising, after the new Maps, News, and Google TV icons in the recent past, but it is still a bit confusing at a glance having every icon be the same four colors on a white platter.
True, although the icons are nice, being the same colors is bad for UX.

Everyone thinks this is a rebranding? He spent half the video talking about icons. What they did was change features offered for the price. I guess we're just supposed to upgrade and volunteer to pay an additional $6/mo per user.
