A Normal Day & Chill Evening of Van Life (As a Couple with 2 Cats)

- We got to take a beautiful hike today and decided to make a video about it!
Welcome to the channel and to a vary normal day and laid back vlog of the evening. We do a little cooking, cleaning, & showering In our van that we share with the ladies (Lula & Sasha). Join us for a normal day in out 70 square foot tiny home on wheels.
Recipe:
1 block tofu extra firm
2 tablespoons avo oil
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 cup BBQ Sauce
1 teaspoon chili paste (optional)
2 buns / bread
1 Avocado
4 ounces shredded cabbage
1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced
3-4 tablespoons vegan mayo (optional)
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1/4 teaspoon salt
Cut tofu into one-inch-thick slabs.
Mix the BBQ sauce, red chili paste, garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon avo oil together.
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add oil, and season the pan with salt and pepper. Carefully add the tofu thats been brushed with BBQ mixture. Sear Tofu until crispy and deeply golden (this takes a while. let it cook for about 8-10 minutes a side at least)
Place the shredded cabbage in a medium bowl, add onions, cilantro, mayo, vinegar, and salt.
Toast the buns and slice the avocado and asemble the sandwich! Add a little more BBQ sause on top of the tofu & a little mayo to the top bun!

Love seeing you cook in a small space. I’ve always thought that I’d incorporate a hidden fold down shelf/counter 12-15” ABOVE the counter top to utilize that valuable space while prepping/cooking.

I love your van. I used to have a cat that was good for traveling. I had a '66 Dodge Coronet that had one of those ring horns. She would not sit on your lap any other time; but, in the car, she would sit on my left side and stick her head between the horn and the steering wheel and thought she was being petted. She was in Heaven. I'd go visit my parents and sisters for the day and she'd just go along, in the house visiting everyone. Coolest cat ever. 🐈❤️
My kitty hates to travel. She's 15. Guess the ladies have been on the road their entire lives and very calm and accustomed to it. I'm envious.
Actually we got Lula at 3 and Sasha didn’t leave to travel until she was 1. Both of them naturally travel very well so I feel like we got lucky!
All cats are different just like humans- one of my cats hates the car and the other loveees car rides

Honestly there are lots of brands of tofu here too that aren’t firm enough to use for recipes like this! Always a treat when we can find some though.
The PNW rocks. I was born and raised in Connecticut, but moved to Oregon 44 years ago. I start van life next year, but this will always be home base. I'm old, so my Medicare will give me a free gym membership. I figure I can take my luxury showers at Anytime or Planet Fitness.
We love it here in the PNW for sure! We did 2 years with PF showers and it’s well worth it! 😄

I have really been enjoying cooking a lot more this year! It’s the GSI outdoor pinnacle pro and the gittle pan from GSI out doors as well! We really like their pots and pans because the handles breakdown and they are all lightweight!
I will say it again, I think you have one of the nicest vans I’ve ever seen. Your videos truly show what van life is really like.

I love this channel. I have the money saved for a van but have been really thinking about if the IG and UA-cam videos glamorize vanlife or if it is really worth it. I ski/hike/mountain bike a lot but would have it for extended weekends and even working remote for a week or two. Not full time living. The day in the life videos is a great help. I also switched to vegan 5 years ago after my wife switched. I love good food and it’s been an amazing journey. Not telling anyone else to do it but we have had a great adventure. Take care and just wanted to say thanks from another PNW viewer. Oh and we have two foster kitties and one is a tortoiseshell. I can’t foster fail and keep this one but she sure is cute/sweet.
There’s certainly a lot of hype around vanlife. In our experience it does wear off pretty quickly but after doing it for about 5 years we think it’s 100% worth it. It’s a magnificent way to travel and you get to enjoy the comforts of home in all the different places. It’s truly amazing. A lot of the time does look like this though. It’s interesting because those glamorized vanlife moments do really exist! However most people don’t really show how for very cool hike or ski trip there’s lots of dishes, cooking, driving etc. It doesn’t mean there aren’t those amazing moments. They’re just surrounded by some tasks that are pretty monotonous at times!
😂 Half the hike miles are from returning to get the camera!

Can you make a sofa seating to go over the driver and passenger seat when parked for additional seating area? Of course this would have to go over a swivel seat so it can turn to the inside. This would be in place of having to make the dinette area into the bed
We prioritized having a cab divider so we wouldn’t do this in this van but we have done a double bench swivel in one of the vans we built out previously.
Hi! I absolutely LOVE your van. A couple questions : we also travel with two cats - where do you keep the litter box? Also, while cooking, how do you keep airflow and prevent the smoke alarm going off without opening the door? Thank you!!
Thank you! :) Their litter box is in our small curved bench in the front. we have a window on our side door that opens as well as both of our skylights.

Thank you for watching and for the kind comment. We plan to leave the van pretty much as it is. We made very intentional choices to hide the fridge, stove and other “van” things so that it feels very calm. The truth it there is normally enough clutter going on without adding to much in the van.

How many miles of the total hike are attributed to setting up the tripod and having to walk back to get it? 😂

Yes we did. Unfortunately we weren’t really making that much doing it haha. We could only do 2 at most a year and our shop rent, insurance etc. ended up costing pretty much all of our profits.
@@scarletandseth yeah i can tell that you really need to build at least 10+ a year to cover all those cost maybe you will have to also selling some parts like shelves and safari rack to make this business possible

I am always wonder about the cat pee and poo inside the van, will it has some smell.
I have a cat at home too. His pp smell very strong.
In the future, we have to bring him travel with us, spending a lot of time inside the van, I am so worry about the smell.

I think male cat pee smells quite a bit worse than female pee. It also comes down to the litter you use. We use Pretty litter and it helps a lot with smell. As long as we regularly clean the box there isn’t any smell at all in the van!

@@cheangchikeong2042 consider if your cat can handle van life first, before worrying about pee smells. No backyard, you need to take them on harness walks, which takes training. Otherwise it's fur baby abuse, kitty jail is NOT HUMANE.😮
