Build a Simple Cat Ladder for your Furry Friends

- In this video I built a cat ladder for our new cat because he wanted to sleep on top of the dog house. In some cases this could be a dangerous situation, but our dog and cat get along great together.
The ladder is meant to help our cat ascend and descend to his new loft bedroom without the added stress on his joints from jumping up and down several times each day.
This is a simple project that I built using only one 2x4. I hope you can build something similar for your cat.
Building the Steps for a Friendship can sometimes be a challenge. But in other cases it can literally be building steps.

Very thoughtful of you! It would be nice to see Lincoln trying to use it, I'm sure he will!
Hopefully he won't, but I made it strong enough that it should be able to handle a little abuse.
Your catification is not bad! It's like a ship's ladder for cats! 😸
Here's a hack for getting your steps right: screw each step into one of the stringers with one screw directly into the center of the edge of the step, but don't tighten them all the way down. Then position that stringer where it needs to go and screw it down. Now, use a level and level each step, tighten the already existing screw, and sink one more in. Once that whole side is done, put the other stringer in place and screw it to each step with 2 screws.
Both of those are some great ideas, thank you for sharing them
Good job. Love the fact that you showed you actually care for cats as well as dog!
Thanks, This family loves our pets.
Gotta tell you!! I LOVE ALL of your Videos! Thank you so much!!!!
Thank you so much Scott
What a wonderful project. My cats sleep on my ladder i use to get onto my loft bed!🤣
That's funny
Here's another idea: you can drill a hole through the top step and hang a top underneath it that he can bat at. Add a little rug under it and it becomes another spot he will feel safe to nap and play.
Great idea!
It's great they are getting along so well. I love that you are taking care of the cat and being considerate of what would be best for it. If cats are outside especially this year, because of ticks, they are very susceptible to Bob cat fever. Even with tick prevention. I'm not trying to be a downer but my neighbors cat succumbed to this and I would just hate to see that happen to yours. I have indoor cats (4) and this gives me ideas to keep them entertained. Thanks for all your great videos! You always do such a good job! 😁
Thank you so much Mike. I never heard of bobcat fever, I will have to prepare.
Love it!
So how long did you have to film to get the cat to use the stairs, even with the treats?
Surprisingly he started using it almost immediately. I actually had to modify my filming because he climbed down the first time almost by accident. In the video he dropped his toy on it and followed it down.
I'm building a French Cleat system right now and I love your channel! Thank you for the great suggestions. Do you have an idea for storing a router on the wall? I think I saw one, but I can't find it now. Best wishes.
I do have one for my palm router but not a full size unit. I think it's in video #6
@@SpecificLove7 Thank you. I'll go take a look. I just found some old, melamine-covered pre-built shelves in the back of my barn/shop. They're kind of stained (looks like motor oil), but they're nine-ply plywood, about a full inch thick and really heavy. They're going to make some great cleats!
😍✌🏼👍🏼🤞🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🥰
Your dog’s name is Lincoln… 🫣 😅 😂🤣😂🤣
Yes it is 😁
Our cats and dogs have always gotten along over the years...i think the thought they don't get along is a human issue not a cat,dog issue
You might be correct on that.
What is the angle of each step
Doubling up the tubafors for the steps was unnecessary. Single width would have been more than adequate. Cats have tiny feet and they tend to place their rear feet exactly where their front feet were when they move (see videos of cats vs dogs going through hallways filled with many obstacles). Also, cats and dogs get along just fine with just a minimal amount of supervised socialization.
Thank you for the knowledge
Can your cat not jump ontop of it without the ladder?
He could jump it, but I did not want him to get hurt jumping down all the time.
