The world's smallest airport has a size of 150m² and is the newest section of the Miniatur Wunderland. After six years and 150.000 working hours, the Knuffingen Airport has been in operation for a few weeks now.

Projects like this remind me how cool life is. Millions of people fly every day and don't take the time to enjoy it, one day airports will be a thing of the past and people will say, "Must have been quite a sight to be at one of those "air-ports" back then." It's like we either want the past or the future. :)

I agree 100%. The attention to detail is amazing, like the turbines spinning, all the ground support, and the different planes! This alone would almost be worth the trip to Germany (not to mention the great beer and great people)... I will see this in my lifetime.
You might think of letting film / movie productions use your airport for scenes in films or TV shows ! It looks that good !

am realistischten empfande ich die außenaufnahmen vom terminal mit dem geparkten autos! wie sich die blinker in der karosserie spiegelten! erst bei ganz genauem hinsehen als miniatur zu erkennen! alles in allem: wunder schön!
Ein super Video über das Meisterwerk im Miniaturwunderland. Freue mich schon darauf alles Live und in Farbe zu sehen.
This miniature, functional airport is absolutely fantastic. I wish the people who created this would build miniatures elsewhere, too. Imagine the endless possibilities, such as a futuristic city in space, a famous Formula 1 race track, a ski resort and historical recreations. When I was a child I marvelled at a miniature circus with lights and moving carnival rides. It was in a department store in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I thought this was a lost art but clearly it lives in Europe. Wow!
The Miniatur Wunderland has scenes like from a ski resort, and together with the Monaco section there will be a Formula 1 race track.

Richtig toll fehlt nur noch ein kultiges flugzeug von der ehemaligen swissair-flotte die ja sehr geschichtsträchtig war...fänd es noch oberhammer kuul wenn man da auch den Jumbo bestaunen könnte...sucht ihr auch flugzeugpaten? ;)

einen kleinen kritikpunkt gibt es aber. mir ist aufgefallen das die flugzeuge ziemlich ruckartig stehenbleiben. da könnte man doch was machen.

There are "how it was made" videos as the first volumes of "Gerrits Tagebuch" (Gerrit's diary). They have English subtitles.
Gerrit I think we are ready for a trip on a plane inbound toknuffingen, then to take the underground train terminal to a nice place for a summer break then back to the airport for departure!!!
I didn't realize it was a miniature until about 1 minute in.....then again i'm smoking some good shit! But this is amazing work!!! Thank you for posting.

OK, no one else posted about this: At 2:10, something gray seems to disappear from the the top of the machine pushing the plane backwards ... weird.

Ich denke... zu loben ist gar nicht nötig, denn hier mal meine Fragen: Können die Flugzeuge nicht langsamer anhalten? Denn es sieht sehr aprupt aus, wie die anhalten.
Wäre es praktisch nicht einfach, an dem Hauptfahrwerk von Airbus und Co. "Fahrwerksschachtklappen" anzubringen? Ist ja in echt auch so. Vom Rest bilde ich mir erst die Meinung, wenn ich mal da gewesen bin:) Hoffe auf Antworten...

If you mean the airport: the Wunderlandians (people working at the Miniatur Wunderland) needed six years of planning and building - and 150000 working hours.
If i ever win the lotto i wanna build something like this in my house...

this is the most amazing display I've ever seen - should win EVERY award for every aspect of design construction artistic technology creativity imagination - etc etc - I don't think DISNEY could have done better..... WOW this is the best of the best
If you want more information: "Gerrits Tagebuch Vol. ..." have the airport as main topic and are usually subtitled. These videos show many aspects of how the airport was made.

I saw this video, watched all of Gerrits video diary, and tomorrow im booking flights to Hamburg to see it for myself.
Nun, der MiWuLa Airport ist die Krone des bewegten Miniaturmodelbaus. Mehr geht nicht. Ich bin jedes mal aufs neue Fasziniert wenn ich hier ein Video sehe oder aber selbst an der Platte stehe in Hamburg. Langweilig wirds auch nach Stunden nicht.

This is an airport exhibition based in Hamburg, Germany. I guess with all those setup, you will need like hundred thousands or maybe million to make it. =)
Some of the parts can be bought from miniature model railway companies, but most of the airport system is custom built.

Wie einige schon geschrieben haben: in den Nachtszenen hat man manchmal das Gefühl dass reale Szenen mit hinein geschnitten wurden. Das Innere der Abflughalle ist ein Meisterstück - mit viel Tiefe und Details. Ein Lob auch an die Macher dieses Videos! Später im Jahr komme ich mal wieder vorbei. Das muss ich mir in ausführlich ansehen.
Hamburg is a great city! I've just been for a long weekend there with my brother, and we had a fantastic time! Saw Miniatur Wunderland, and enjoyed watching the ships sailing past on the quay. Very friendly city :)
Spectacular is an understatement. That building at 1:15 is gorgeous. Everyone who worked on this is a genius. Nuff said. Thanks for the video.
We visited last Saturday. Ticket price for adults was € 12,- per person.
It is very impressive!
We only had one day, but to see and discover details it's way too little time.
Looking forward to another opportunity to visit again!
