- This is the full installation DIY for the AvinUSA 10.25 multimedia navigation android display for the BMW E83 X3. All in all this is a very easy installation and a fantastic way to make dramatic and quick improvements to your E83.
The display installs easily and with minimal tools and effort, and design queues make it look like it has always been there. In addition, the new range of functionality it brings while still integrating into your existing design is nothing but a bonus.
You can use the Google Play store, your choice of navigation apps, stream movies and videos through UA-cam and Netflix, play music from Pandora, Spotify and Amazon and so much more. This display brings a level of functionality you cant even duplicate in the brand new models of BMW.
This is an upgrade that you will use every single day and be glad you did it!
Thank you again to my partner!

Dude! Thanks for taking so much time to capture this and provide a pretty decent step by step on how to get this installed ;) You're some man for one man :)
Thanks !
Great upgrade - we also install the same screens over here in the UK and they are a great addition to the car!
Thank you and yeah I absolutely recommend them. This makes such a huge difference to the car.
Great Video, thanks for sharing. Thinking of updating my 07 during the quarantine lockdown here in Canada.
Go for it!
Just installed it on my 2010 x3 e83, a great upgrade, everything is really good.
1,sound quality is perfect, can not tell the difference between cd, even streaming with Bluetooth, steering wheel buttons work good, but next previous button is opposite. I didn't run aux male to male cable.
2, GPS signal is very good with antenna underneath the screen(dash), there are 2 tiny notches need to be aligned on the socket, make sure a good connect.
3, backup camera signal shows immediately when shift reversed, no need to wait android system boot which is good when you start the engine and backup in rush. I will install a rear view camera, however for e83 you have to drill a hole on metal for cable.
4, firmware is id6.
5, sound stops when shift reversed. I don't know if it is supposed to be like this.
6, my car doesn't have idrive, have to use touchscreen to access menu and phone list, hope manufacturer combine a usb or wireless joystick like idrive controller.
7, very easy install, for e83 it is must have.
8, don't know how to turn it off. If crash, have to turn off engine and turn on again to reset it.
Thanks for this video. Very helpful. Great job.
Glad to hear it is such a great install and product for you, great points listed here thank you!
"sound quality is perfect, can not tell the difference between cd" - I'm sure you need to see a doctor, AUX is mediocre AF literally to anything :-D
Hi, how does this unit get internet. Do I have to buy a 4g dongle and connect this by USB? Hope you can help out
@@muslimspam do you know of some way to connect it other than using the Aux port
#8 Did you ever solve the no shut off feature? Just installed mine and it wont shut off either?
When I was a mechanic, in the UK, the 'locking plates' were called 'Speed nuts'.
Love it! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you BMW DIY Guy
The problem as you thought was loose connection on the harness, said the installer. For fun of it, I asked to do the set up by myself after the installation. Right now, the unit is sitting beautifully on my X3 (2008) dash with no functionality. It receives strong internet signal via USB and WiFi but unable to log onto any site such as, Google, UA-cam ... can't even set up time manually or otherwise that would stay.
Gone through the Avin's "BMW Multimedia manual" & "Quick Start pamphlet" multiple times to no avail.
I really wish, Avin had a set up procedures & troubleshooting for dummies!
Glad to hear the connection issue was it! I haven't had a wireless issue like you are seeing.. does it actually show connected?
Thank you BMW DIY guy for your response.
First, I don’t have that cable (acting in place of Fiber Optic or the OEM cable) and need to order it but don’t know it’s part number/designation.
Second, the iController is Avin product. Not essential but nice attachment.
Thanks
Thank you for producing this video on the GPS/Stereo display. I'm guessing you still have to use the factory GPS module that is in the cargo area quarter panel?
Actually no.. this car didn't have OEM GPS. This uses its own antenna and is self sufficient.
Great channel! did you make the video for the rear camera wiring? I'm looking at buying the new Avin Android 10 Snapdragon with a wired rearview camera for my 2009 X3
Ironically enough I did make that very video, then dropped my camera and lost all of the footage. This is something I am seriously considering recreating when I can.
@@BMWDIYGuy that video will be so helpful
@@BMWDIYGuy please bro if you can
Hi,
I istalled the unit on my BMW X3 E83. The dashboard display not working, all data zero. Please help me, how to see metered data (tachograph, engine speed, etc)?
Hi. thanks for that great instruction. A few days ago i got my avin usa unit for the x3 e83. its the new sanpdragon unit with android 10. Idid not have a factory screen and even no i-drive controller. So i ordered the unit with the after market i-drive.
So far the system is running and makes fun but i still have a problem.
The i-drive controller doesnt work. i keep contact to avin support and they sent me a firmware update but it didn´t help. i will try every combinations of can and screen settings but it seems it will not work. my wiring should be ok because i sent all the pictures to avin.
Do you have any idea about that problem?
Thanks for help
I will see what I can figure out.. sadly I dont have a suggestion immediately.
@@BMWDIYGuy hi....today i solved the i-drive Problem with the help from avinusa. I just installed a mcu Update. Now everything is fine. Anywhere thanks for your help
What’s the i-driver controller for I have a 2005 X3 with steering wheel controls . Where can I buy a unit does it fold down?
hi friend, I bought and installed in my X3 e83 but I disable the car radio, what did I do wrong? Thank you so much!
The same thing happened to me. The new head unit works (except for the steering controls), but when I change modes nothing happens. The head unit works regardless of the mode I'm in.
Rob Alexanders
the message disabled appears on the car radio and does not make me do any operation! the installed display works but does not feel therefore and useless! uffff !!!!
Same here. I think we have a different wiring harness. My wiring harness is a solid block - not a plugable bracket where you can switch AUX. The screen takes over all audio and all you can hear is the Anrdoid sound which is awful quality compared to the stock amp. Unless anybody knows where to get the right wiring harness I'd like to re-wire mine with power only to be bluetooth into the existing radio. There is a button in settings called "Car Amplifier" which does nothing. I think this is the wiring harness.
@@BoeroBoy Did you have any luck getting another harness as I got same issue with the install off mine as well
did you find the solution?
If you get the back up camera option is the reverse trigger wire built into the harness or do you have to do a splice.
Its is already built in!
Thanks for your quick answers. Does the unit still normally support UA-cam, and Google voice assistant since it is the older Android 4.4.4.
UA-cam yes.. I haven't tried google voice.
I’m confused. I have a 2007 E83 3.0si with the aux connection under my right arm in the back. That being said, can I still hook this up? If not, what do I have to do?
So you could potentially run an extension to that port.
Do you know what could cause the unit not to have audio?
@ANL4JC check the auxiliary feeds and if you have (and transferred) the green optical line.
awesome video! But I have one problem I have a 09 x3, when you connect the aux adapter do you need to code it, because Avins sent me links of where I would need to perform aux coding, did you just snap it right in or did you have to code it?
In the 06, I just needed to plug in the aux cable and the head unit recognized it.
I ordered this same unit (also for an e-83) but ordered it with the wireless back up camera. the unit came with zero instructions. You mentioned doing a video on it, have you ever done it?
I haven't done it but will be similar to the wired for connecting for power, the trigger wire on the deck etc. Check out the 5 series install with a back up camera, and you may be able to get it.
I installed mines and it’s not working. I wonder what I might have done wrong? Could you go over with me where each side of the usb cable goes?
What is not working? No power, certain functions, what exactly?
I do not have any sound at all. I don’t know where to put my auxiliary cable. To the android or I drive knob? I do not know where to put the auxiliary cable and usb that came with the android system. Is there a usb that come in the bmw already? Or is it the only one that came with the android? Also what do we need to do if we do not have a already installed factory aux cord. Like how do we connect it? I wish I could show you the parts I am stuck at.
@@michellehagains3407 If you dont have the factory AUX setup that is installed into the plug at the back of the head unit. You then plug a male to male aux cable from the new cable you installed into the head unit and into the aux port on the new wiring harness.
would it be possible to install without the use of the OEM head unit? Also, could I install a camera for use as a baby seat cam, and how would I get it to show on the display?
So great questions.. probably yes using an aftermarket head unit, but *entirely* depends on the connections. I think it COULD be done, no clue how off hand. You could also connect any camera you wanted to the video IN feeds, so that would work yes.
I ordered the Junsun v1 pro 2g-32g Android 10, i believer I have a aux option when selecting mode, does that mean my aux is already wired, and if not do I need that to have sound to the Android and factory radio unit?
Sorry I haven't worked with that unit
Hi, I just got one of this units for my 2006 E83 (non-IDrive). I'm really super excited because the screen is just awesome and the sound is superb! Only 2 Issues I'm having are: 1st- the clock resets itself every time I turn the car off. Which basically means I have the wrong time when the unit turns on. I did follow all installation instructions specific for my vehicle and I even watched the videos on how to set the time but it still keeps changing. I emailed Avin about it so I'm hoping they will reply with a solution soon. 2nd - I'm able to listen to music and even watch videos, however, I was under the impression that I would be able to use the steering wheel remote controls to at least switch to the NEXT and/or PREVIOUS track (the same way it works on the original radio) but somehow I'm not able too. Is this not something I'm able to do since my car does not have IDrive or should the steering wheel controls work with my Avin unit anyway? Please let me know.
Did got an answer about your questions?
@@MA-ks7ky yes.. what they told me was to... Under settings from the home screen go into Time and chose auto_sync with GPS. Then, main screen push main screen down... It will open up a bar menu click on settings change date... Time and make sure you have the right timezone for your area. And that should do it. For me it was not working so I unplugged everything from the unit and plugged in the GPS antenna fisrt then everything else. That seemed to make it work.... Takes a few mins for right time to show up.
@@marlon08901 did your buttons work
Hey If you have gotten that far with this system be very happy.... and they will not get back with you, that is why they dont have a phone number to call. Good Luck!
@@marlon08901 what about the buttons?
Where’s your mic? And what is audio docking
I didn't install the mic into this X3, but most common install is route to the headliner near the sun visor.
Hi do you know if this works if you have the factory flip up navigation screen I have a 08 X3 I really want a updated screen but don’t wanna spend all the money if might not work
So maybe, but I honestly am not sure. I assume the tray mounted there has the same footprint as the display (as the dash would be the same). If so, the headunit is most liely in the trunk area and would need the long extension. Contact Avin and chat with them to see if it works.
Can this be installed to E83 without GPS screen? I have original standard business CD and would love one of these
Richie C Absolutely yes.. this example E83 only has the business CD.
what the hell is a b side lol can you show us a pic of what i need to unplug to add my aux cable? i cant see what you did
Bluetooth question here. If I am listening to a CD or FM radio and receive a call on my cell will the Bluetooth on the head unit notify me that I have an in coming call and make it take precedent over the music I am listening to?
Can I install this on a 2008 X3 that came with stock BMW GPS or can it only be installed on vehicles without the stock GPS system? Thank you!
Hi, did you get any answers? I have the same question.
Hi, if i dont have The aux, but į connect The aux on The wirless did it works? And The seller offer me for use fm stereo modulator thanks for answer
I would add the aux jack personally.. it's not hard to do or expensive
Hi...me again. Still haven't figured out why my car radio and cd player isn't working when I hook up avin android. There is only one way to hook this up so I know I've done it correctly. Is there possibly a different harness I should be purchasing?
Hi what aux cable is it I need? I cannot get audio with mine
Should be in the video description 8)
I have a bmw e83 2005 mod but it doest have the white contact and i have the black contact with aux. it doest work, maybe you can show us what cable we need its hard to see the cable when it is instal already.

@@Bmwdiagnostics92 absolutely a cable problem then. The aux cable when installed by itself will add that mode to the stereo head unit. If it doesn't detect that, then very likely a setup or cable issue.

Hi my 2005 x3 does not have a aux cord. Do I need to buy that wiring harness to make this work?
Avin sells the OEM style aux input for a lot less than the OEM cable. They will hook you up.
@@BMWDIYGuy But don't you need it programed in order for the Aux to work?

A question for the diy guy:
I took my 2008-E83 to a shop to install my Avin. The unit worked beautifully but no sound. Apparently cause my car does not have the green Optic Fiber wires to connect to the harness. The iDrive center consul did not function either and Avin is not responding to my inquiries.
Any advice? Or any Avin installer in the Monterey, CA. area?
So likely easy fixes.. not all models have the green optical cable, so if you dont have it you are likely just fine. Next, you most likely have to run the aux cable from the port on the new wiring harness to the aux input in your head unit. If you don't have that, you need to buy that cable. The OEM cable is really expensive for what it is, Avin sells a less expensive version. You can test if you are getting sound from the android side by plugging headphones into the aux port on the wiring harness. I bet you have sound. For the controller, is this the avin model or OEM? Sorry, not familiar with Monteray and if there are any more familiar installers there.
Hey Sorry for your disconnect with Avin... They wont get back to you man I had the same problem. I just took it back out of my car and its sitting in the back of e83. Junk! Junk!
what is the "trigger" wire you talked about when mentioning the rear backup camera? 13:03 I am trying to wire up my camera for this unit and I have a cable that says Cemera+12 (I'm assuming this is the 12V power for the camera) and the yellow optical cable for the camera. What do I use the "trigger" wire for. Mine says "back".
Hi, does this screen also fit on the models with the small screen that flips up?
Check with Avin.. I am not sure on that compatability but maybe
does it work with 2006 E83 with iDrive?
Very likely but confirm with Avin for sure

Hi. My radio and cd doesnt work now. Do i need that aux cable for that?
No.. the aux cable it to get sound from the android side INTO your stereo head unit. If you dont have any sound from the head unit, check your cable connections, something is wrong.
Hi....reinstalled everything again..cd and radio from x3 still doesn't work. Watched a video ( that I can't find now lol) and guy did some rewiring. Could that be it?
@BMW DIY Guy ... after a year +, how is the performance? It seems like mirroring was pretty laggy. Do you think it's still worth the $500+ ? Thanks so much for your help! (E83 2008, Business Radio, no Nav)
Absolutely worth it.. use bluetooth most of the time, but is a fantastic addition for a similar business radio setup.
hi , I have issues with my screen it has become pixelated, i really need some advice, thanks
I would reach out to Avin ASAP as my assumption is its a problem with the screen itself.
Has anyone installed one of these on a 2006 X3 that comes stock with a navigation unit? I'm looking around at these units and some of the listings say they're compatible only for the X3's that don't have a stock GPS screen.
Same here, can't really find any decent answers out there...
@@lukasscott2970 My wife's car didn't have the genuine navigation unit so I bought a one similar to this one but when I made the research I recall that there's some models made to replace the stock one as well, they even ask you which kind of plug there's on your unit with some pics, I purchased mine on Aliexpress and they often say something like "no screen model" or "with screen" , their Chinese way to tell you if the model fit on a car having a genuine navigation system a a car without it. Look for the before and after pics of install since they also show if the car had a previous display unit, the key word to use are "android X3 E83". Take your time, look for the correct specs and options, check the feedback and the taxes for the expedition mode. Good luck. Also tried adding the I drive controller and it only works for about 10 seconds then I need to hit car info again. Like the unit but Avin is extremely hard to get ahold of.
Any help would be appreciated.
Hi,
I like the demo and in fact I'm thinking of replacing my OEM unit with Avin.
I've got BMW X3 F25 model. Do you have a video installing Avin on this car please? If not, can you offer any tips perhaps. I just want to replace the screen, with an additional microphone and an aux splitter.
I saw a video where the guy took the radio out as well while installing the same on this car, that's what got me worrying, the number of connections that he was taking out.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Well I havent installed into an F25, but it may be similar to my F32, so could always check that out. 8)
Does anyone know if I need to purchase and install a microphone to make hands-free Bluetooth calls in my ‘04 X3 with this Avin system?
It comes with a mic, and yes you will need it to make calls. There isn't an embedded mic.
Is it possible to add the idrive turn knob to the e83 with this system ??
Yao0o0o0o Jeffrey Hype !!!!! Yes. It's optional. Before you checkout there's other "optional" cables and features you can add.
Hey bud, how did you get the AUX function to show up for the new head unit? mine is fully installed but have no aux selection on the mode button for the BMW x3 e83
So when the AUX cable is added to the harness, the head unit will automatically detect it and add that option.
@@BMWDIYGuy Thanks buddy. It's strange it wont detect it fo me. Might have a faulty cable along the way. Will investigate

You need the factory aux port, the avin one will not allow aux to be seen on the headunit as it does not have resistors built in like the factory cable. I went round and round on this one and finally just used the oe cable and it worked...it has resistors in the cable and you can actually see the bulge where they are located.
Thanks for your video. I bought it after watch your video. I have aux port under the rear arm , how can I connect it to the front under the trim?
Its possible to run the AUX cable down and under that center trim.. easiest way is to run it down behind the factory stereo and out under the side trim. You can then easily get the cable under the side trim of the center console until you reach that aux port.
Of your years working with AvinUSA, have you experienced an issue of which the Android system does not load intermittently when the car is started? Instead, there's a No Signal message. BMW interface always works at car start and the Android interface eventually loads, but only if the care is powered off one or more times.
xonreh so check all of your connections as that is the message you can get if the wiring harness is off somehow. That said, if it takes one or two power ups and then it is fine, then may be a bad unit. Talk with Avin and never seen them have an issue replacing a unit.
Okay. Thanks for the reply. I thought I'd exhaust all possibilities before returning the unit. I've removed and reinstalled all connections twice, but the issue remains.
xonreh ok. Absolutely talk with Avin is the next step.
Did you have to make center speaker connections during any of your installs? Watching the following video, I noticed the installer connected two speaker wires at the 5:20 mark (ua-cam.com/video/acueLurA3Qc/v-deo.html ). There was no mention of making those two connections in the Avin included installation instructions.
On a different note, you mentioned having problems mirroring your phone to the unit. You might want to try the Headunit Reloaded trial app. Read the app info to get setup instructions. Although I am having my unit exchanged, I was able to get Android Auto to work via USB.
xonreh so no, the harness is connected through your original harness so no need to tap into the other channels separately. I appreciate the other info!
I've purchased the Avin for my 2006 BMW E83 and have it installed. There's no Aux IN put for the cable on the head unit. The head unit only has a Mic output and there is no aux output on the main harness to connect the 3.5 mm audio cable. I have no sound. NEED ASSISTANCE. Thanks.
Ruby Capps look in the description of the video and you will see the link to the AUX adapter you need. There is a BMW cable, or the one from Avin thay plugs into the head unit itself.
Thank you for responding. We purchased the adapter as shown but the only place to plug the AUX cord is the MIC OUT on the head unit and there is no other place to plug the Aux to get sound and for the Avin to work properly.
There is an additional cable you need to add to the wiring harness. You can buy the OEM cable which is wildly more expensive, or the one from Avin. I see you mentioning you have the adapter.. but that wire had a big plug at one end that goes into the harness block itself, and has a female mini din port at the other end. That is where you plug the cable from the AUX port on the avin harness.
Stefan Yotz thank you Stefan. What's the name for the additional cord that your referring to? I have the Avin 10.25 and Aux cord. The Avin 10.25 only has a mic out.

Does anyone actually have the full steering wheel controls working with this unit on an E83? :)
Guess not, no reply... 🤷🏿♂️
At the time of purchase, did you check all the boxes for gps, apple car play dongle etc.. or is it all included already?
I got the apple car play dongle for the X3, but not GPS as it didnt have the factory, so used the included antenna.
Question 3: Does this unit have a builtin microphone or do you have to connect an external microphone to make phone calls.
CEDH85 it's built in
Hi BMW DIY GUY, have you installed a dvr yet, was wondering if you can use a wireless one with this?
I haven't yet in this car, but as long as the receiver end has a USB connection like a wired setup, I don't know why it wouldn't work! If you try it, make sure to share the results here. Thank you!
Are the steering wheel buttons work with the avin unit ??? I bought an older design unit from another company than avin but contrary to what they said the steering buttons did not work with their gos unit !
It absolutely integrates into the canbus and the steering wheel controls work!
Quick Question, I just bought one for a 2005 X3 I inherited, which is in excellent shape, but doesn't the X3 have to be programed so the Aux is enabled, as most of the head units didn't have a Aux feature on the BMW X3 in this year.
Does anyone know if this will work with an aftermarket head unit? I also want to install a subwoofer
It will yes.. there are connections for aftermarket setups
I know this is old but will it work if the car already has Navi
Yes. You just need the extension

It should work just fine on your 2005 X3, and yes you can add and integrate a backup camera which is very nice considering how blind out the back the E83 can be. I dont believe Avin has a distributor in the UK so when you order they will ship from their warehouse to you.

Great question and there isnt a way to tie in the sensors that I am aware of.. this E83 X3 doesnt have them, so not something I have worked with on them.
@@BMWDIYGuy Okay, one other question, not related to the Android display. My BMW X3 doesn't have a courtesy puddle light on any of the doors. Is it possible to retrofit one? Have you done a video on this?
@@instrumann I haven't no.. I would say it's possible but not easy. You would need to cut the door cards, and run the wiring through the door loom, and tie into existing interior lights.
Would this work on a 2008 x3?
Hello mate how to install Idrive controller
I have a e83 with the factory navigation installed. I see on the website it says this is not supported if you have navigation. Is that just saying you cant have both installed (which is obvious) or it literally will not work at all.
So I honestly don't know but would suggest talking with Avin.. I am sure if they have a way to make it work, they will tell you.
Went through installing an Avin on my E83 (2008) yesterday professionally. Including back up camera, center console i-controller. It was all gutted but everything was working pretty much up to the point of putting them all together in their right spot and radio started displaying, no signal, just 2 horizontal bars. Non of the radio buttons would respond & to turn the radio off, we had to remove the keys. Switched the harness to the factory original, it would work as normal but all from that moment on it was not working with the Avin supplied harness. Had to leave the car in the shop for further research. Any ideas where to look? Thx.
So my initial place to start is the harness itself.. sounds like you did a great first round of testing, works OEM, changed it doesnt work, go back to OEM and works. That narrows the variables to something about the new wiring harness. It just acts as a passthrough for all of the iDrive side itself. First is check every connection, make sure its seated fully and the locking collars in place. If you do so and still have issues, then maybe the wiring harness itself. If so, reach out to Avin asap get their support and likely swap out the harness.
No reason to have a shop do this honestly.. you can do the work, and save the cash, yourself. Just my opinion.
Hi I bought the Avon aux cable and I am able to hear navigation via radio sound system regardless if radio on or off. However the aux does show as an option and will not play music etc. any idea of fix?
Check all of your connections.. also plug headphones into the AUX port on the wiring harness and test for sound. If you have full sound, navigation, music etc, then its something about how you have it hooked up to the OEM deck.
Reverse camera?
awesome video, second to none. Your skills and explanatory details is a breeze to understand, inspiring me, eventually to do a replica for my car. With your additional feedback, I think I will be successful.I'm old guy with old car, 2004 BMW X3 but my radio/CD do not have AUX input, when I toggle MODE aux function didn't come up, only radio FM/AM, Clock and CDAny idea how to enable AUX ? Definitely Android unit need to have AUX Input for the sound to work with the monitor. Is any code factory radio to turn ON the AUX function (BMW Business model)?Your comments greatly appreciated.
Can you listen to the regular radio stations from the Avin or do you have to switch the mode back to the stock radio?
No, you would simply switch your factory stereo back into radio mode (not aux mode)
Hello, i have the same Android navigation system and i have a little problem. Sometimes, gps voice is coming only from driver door speaker, other Times from all speakers. How to set it to use all speakers everytime? Thank you for your help.
Assuming you are using the AUX connection, check your plugs and cable to make sure they are not loose or bad.
@@BMWDIYGuy thanks, will check it
@@BMWDIYGuy i have verified wiring. Everything is well connected. When gps voice works with only driver speaker, i hear a little "click" from a relay inside of the gps Unit. When gps voice works with all speakers, no "click" from gps Unit. It looks like software problem...
@@Thibthib02 Another test would be to plug headphones into the AUX port on the wiring harness and try the same test. See if the sound differentiates between sides. If it does, then yes something is going on with the display. If so I would check in with Avin as I havent seen that behavior.
Where can I buy this
Link is in the video description
Hi, I just bought the unit with the added loom for satnav and apparently allows for the unit to display the old popup screen information, car info and satnav from Avinusa. I also bought a back up camera, but for none of these are there any instructions in how to install, apart from your video, and a peace of paper where you can hardly make out anything. Anyhow my car already has the build in aux at the back of the center console, do I still need to swop the aux clips to get sound from the head unit? Did you ever install the back up camera that works for your x3? Lastly do you know if we have to buy updates for this unit? Thanks.
You may need to run the AUX cable to the port, like has to be done for some of the F30s for sound from the android side. Test first and see if it works without running it. Next for the backup camera.. I have a couple of videos showing that, but not for the X3 though you could look at the E46 and others for general guidance. Getting the camera into the tailgate will be the challenge. I am working on an E53 X5 backup camera installation video, but it isnt done yet. Lastly, you dont have to pay for updates and Avin will send out links when there are build updates for the display.
Hi Stephan thanks for the reply, what is your association with Avin, as they referred me to your video? I have connected the aux as instructed in the manual Avin emailed and as shown in your video, even replacing the existing aux with one bought form Avin. However no success. I might be missing something, and to the benefit of all us who struggles with the same "no sound issue" is it possible to list specifically the aux swop part here. It would really help a lot. I am tech savy enough.. and have installed plenty radios yet this has me beat at the moment as I am guessing it might be the product (as the mode part and radio inputs are also not working), although I would love to be wrong.
I have done enough videos and installed their products that Avin shares out my videos as reference. For the problems you are having.. now that is a new twist. If you plug headphones into the AUX jack on the wiring harness, do you have sound from the android side. If you do, then that is baseline that sound is working at least from that side. I haven't worked with an X3 with an existing AUX jack, so that is new to me though my F32 has that, and is working fine.
HI, I have this machine, just Installed all Features will working, but no sound. I also connected AUX
JingWei Lee Do you have the aux adaptor plugged in the correct place? Also you can test by plugging headphones into the back coming off the new wiring harness and see if you have sound.
just tried to install the Avinusa 10.25 into my 2006 X3 but can't get the freeking radio to come on. I checked the fuses and no power to the radio. I wish I could just take it to a shop to get installed and rid myself of the headache. Any ideas? Thanks
So couple of questions..
1. No radio: What do you mean? Do you mean power or sound?
2. Did you run the AUX cable?
3. Do you have any sound, from the factory radio, or android side at all?
I’m having this same problem right now plugged everything up and no power to new radio power on old radio no sound but I did not know I needed an aux wire could that be my issue
Hi love the install video, quick question is it the same connection for the x5 e70.. Cause I installed mine but not getting any sound on the android side. Do I have to do the AUX connection like you did?
Guy Severe great question honestly.. I would guess that is the case? Check if you need that aux cable, or if you have an aux port already under your armrest maybe like my F32?
Yes there is a AUX port under the armrest
Guy Severe ok yes.. do very likely like the F32, you will feed the aux cable under your center console and to the aux port.
Ohhh okay....I'll let you know how it turns out... Funny thing that was the first thing I asked Avin, and they told me that I didn't need to run the AUX cable.. Oh well hope this works
Guy Severe Avin is great and they definitely know their stuff.. Will say I haven't worked with your model of car, but just making assumptions from other models. I am sure it will work out.
I went to the sight for a head unit for my 135i 2012, e82, but has the f20. Will this unit work with my e82. The difference is one is a hatchback and one is a coupe
William Lastrapes great question.. sounds like it might but I suggest confirming with Avin directly to make sure
Can I do this on a 2007 x3 3.0si?
I would believe so but make sure to confirm from Avin's website when you order.
can you set these screens up to auto dim when it gets dark at night. i just got the f30 screen and its a brilliant screen, i got the apple carplay adapter with it and its worth every penny for carplay alone. and you have all of the android usability on top of that. but the only problem i have found is the brightness of the screen at night.
Gary Lynch there isn't an autodom function that I am aware of at least. What I do appreciate though if it is dark and the screen is too bright from say light colored album art or something, I just hit the onscreen button control and turn the display off. I appreciate that over the oem that is always on regardless.
i wonder is it something that Avin can add to the system with the next update. i don't think it would be too hard to add a manual dim at a set time in the system. this way you can adjust it twice a year or so. i do appreciate you can turn the screen off with the touch of a button, but you haven't got this option when in Apple Carplay.
Gary Lynch not a bad suggestion and I know they are open to input
BMW DIY Guy the problem is if you like to use CarPlay you don’t have the option to close the screen and maps at night can be extremely bright
do the buttons on the steering wheel work ?
TechHouse Groover they do yes.
Do they work on the pre-2006 models too?
Were can I find one
Check out AVINUSA.com
Hi, I have the oem factory Navigation system with the display on top of the dashboard. On the website AvinUSA states that their system is not compatible. Do I have to switch to other oem car radio system first before I can install this system? Thanks
So great question.. if Avin says it is not compatible, then I would assume that is the default answer. Now it MIGHT be possible to retrofit a "business" radio model from another X3 or similar model into the car, and then the Avin display, but even then its not going to be easy. I *believe* the headunits are somehow coded to the car, so I dont know if a radio taken from another X3 will work in yours. It might be possible, but I doubt easy.
BMW DIY Guy Thanks for the quick answer. You confirm my thoughts. I have to install and code the business cd first which is a hassle before I can install the Avin system.
I tried using this video to install into my 07 bmw e83. Is there any written instruction available?
I dont believe so but you can definitely check with Avin as well.
@@BMWDIYGuy so far I got it to work. Unfortunately now the backlight on the screen lights up but the screen is blank. It wont turn off with my car or my audio when I turn it off....
@@sunniel521 make sure to reach out to Avin ASAP. I talked with them about this, and you may have a wiring harness where the switched power, and constant power is switched.
@@BMWDIYGuy thank you! I will reach out to them with the issue
No, Instruction and you will have no way to connect with Avin because I tried as I was at a bmw dealer to have put in by a friend. No communication with them..... Money spent and money losted.
I have a 2004 X3 I bought for my daughter, all she wants is an Aux input. I bought the aux cable that plugs in the back of the head unit had to replace three wires from aux harness to harness on unit. Plugged in and no Aux mode lights up on radio. Is it possible there is no Aux mode on 2004. I did same thing to other daughters 2005 e46, no problem. Could i have plugged wires in wrong?????????? Can anyone help me with this please.
Late but putting this here for others...has to be oe bmw cable on 04 to 06 as it needs resistance and generic cables don't have that built in.
Could I install this with an aftermarket single din radio?
If so, how?
Very likely, as there are a full batch of connections for audio in/out etc for RCA style plugs. I could see being able to branch this off of another aftermarket headunit. How.. hard to say without knowing your setup exactly, but I believe it can be done.
does it show pdc graphics? and any other additional car data?
Marcel Santoso I don't have PDC in this cat, so no. I will be adding an aftermarket back up camera soon and will show that DIY.
Hi having bought one of these because of your review, I like the overall unit but I have a low level buzzing at high volume (heard mostly when there's quiet parts of music) it stops when I unplug from the aux.do you have any ideas? Thank you
Great question and candidly havent noticed that.. so I would check all of your volume levels first, and also try another male to male aux cable. Just places to start.
BMW DIY Guy
I have tried earthing the unit to the body and a new aux cable, it's still the same. I know it's not comming from the car because if I unplug the aux cable it stops,i have a 2009 e61. May I ask who is your contact at avin? I have mailed them about the problem but I haven't had any real answers, apart from earth to the car body.
Mark Jackson i just email Avin, or use the chat app off of their website and never had a problem with responsiveness. I can understand that low level hum you get though don't have it myself. I would walk through all of the basics.. update the display to the latest build, check all of my wiring connections, and try a different male to male aux cable. I wouild also plus headphones into the aux out on the wiring harness and see if you have the same hum. I would also check all audio settings on the android side and iDrive side to make sure levels aren't contributing. That is where I would start..
BMW DIY Guy
Thank I will carry out your suggestions and let you know how I get on, I have updated to the latest firmware yesterday the new front end looks great I must say.
I have installed there reversing camera and the oem style front camera and they are both really good.i just need to sort the buzzing I have.
Hi bmw guy,I tested the audio output of the unit with my oscilloscope and I am getting 1vpp which is low really for car audio the noise is coming from the unit, I have used a power ground loop isolator which has almost removed it but there’s some back ground hiss still.
Having done a bunch of other tests this is where I am now, my car has cic with individual audio but I’ve upgraded further using a Audison bit one,JL audio 700/5 and a alpine PDX F150/4 which all sound amazing plus upgrade all the speakers and added a 10” sub.
Hello, I have a question if you may kindly answer :)
"Do you currently have the factory navigation system?
YES - (I understand and accept that this unit is NOT compatible with my OEM factory navigation, NO radio station names displayed, dashboard app does not work)"
I have the factory navigation system, but i don't quite understand what will work and what will not work. If someone has some experience with this, can you please tell me what will work and what will not work if i change my factory navigation system with this one?
Thanks a lot,
Tudor
I hate to say this but if you have factory NAV, I wouldn't install this display. As I haven't worked with that combination, I cannot tell you completely what will or wont work properly, but if Avin says no don't do it, I have to believe them.
They do now sell a unit that is suppose to be able to give you all the features. However I am struggling with mine at the moment, trying to get it installed and working correctly.
Ok, well that is great news for folks with the NAV unit and news to me!
If I add the car play for iPhone USB adapter does that also provide power for my phone?
I *believe* so but have used the Apple side so little I am not 100% sure.
BMW DIY Guy nice. What about stats? Mpg left in tank and those other stats?
I will have to review what functions are available on the Apple side.. I use it very rarely as my primary phone is android.
Hi I'm looking for some help I just recently installed this Avin touchscreen and I can't get the audio to work. I have the original aux cable plugged in to the original harness. I also bought the after market aux cord from avin I've tried to do both and I still can manage to get audio.
If you plug headphones into the aux jack on the wiring harness, do you have sound? If you do, that narrows it to the aux connection to the head unit. Also plug your phone or something straight into the aux into the head unit, and if you have sound then it's ok. If you dont, then its something about that connection or cable itself.
So I plugged in my head phones to the aux out cable that is in the avin wiring harness that is connected to the screen and played the movie trailer that's in it and no sound
So I tried to make it work with the original aux cable that is in the wiring harness but it wont work. Because in the video you show that the original aux cable plugs in to the avin one and then plug in the aux out cable to the aux out cable that goes to the screen for audio but I dont have an aux out cable on my original harness. So then I plugged in the avin aftermarket aux cable to the back of the avin harness that is plugged in to the head unit and still no sound if you could help in any way it would be awesome and also thanks for replying back
@@AlfredoGarcia-qj4ri interesting.. so no sound from the aux out on the Avin wiring harness? Now that would be new.. there really only one big plug to the back of the display. Check to make sure that plug is fully seated, as no sound there is odd. If you dont have the OEM aux plug, you will need that or the copy of it from Avin. Cable is the same, Avin is much cheaper.
@@BMWDIYGuy Yes there was no sound from the aux out cable that is in the avin harness that is plugged in to the screen when I plugged in my headphones. I dont know what I'm doing wrong. I do have the avin aux input adapter cables and I've tried it with that to and no sound. I dont know what else to try
