It's worth relistening while reading along to the lyrics. The visuals do an incredible job of telling the story/concept of this EP. "It’s a story about extreme grief and the levels a person is willing to go through to get rid of it. The story follows a main character through a traumatic car crash late one night in the woods that leaves his partner deceased, and from there you spiral with him into the depression and guilt that comes with being the cause of something so detrimental. This is the first time we really dove in and tried to create something sonically that evokes a different range of emotions and over all something that introduces tension and anxiety with a massive pay off. The story is told not only through words but through the music as well, which proved to be our biggest challenge in writing. Lyrically this story ended up being much more personal than we initially intended. We started with the idea to tell a fictional story but throughout the process, I found ways to incorporate real feelings of loss and mourning, as well as anger and self doubt. I’ve always been a very personal writer and this was originally a step away from that, into something more artistic. But in the end, it was just as therapeutic as writing a regular Knocked Loose record, and I think you’ll be able to hear that." - Bryan Garris
I still have yet to listen along with the lyrics, but after I watched it, I was reminded of the Greek tragedy of Orpheus and Eurydice and it made me think of my grandmother who recently passed (she told me "whenever you see a butterfly, think of me" and I shed a few tears. The ending to Permanent was amazing
A Tear in the Fabric of Life is a work of art, musically and with this animated video visually as well! It makes such an impact on so many levels, you wanna bang your head while your jaw drops to the floor and yes, while being bonecrushing this EP as a whole makes me get emotional at times. The variety of styles, the tempo changes, the rhythm, the breakdowns, the vocals (lead and backing), the atmosphere and those little melodies and riffs that crawl underneath your skin and add an extra layer to the maniacal music just makes this EP flawless! To add: loved seeing you being moved by what you were watching and listening!
This is by far Knocked Loose's best release. I enjoyed their past 2 albums a lot, but I would always find myself only coming back to a handful of songs from each. I found it very difficult to stay engaged with 30-40 minutes of this style of music, and I would just be waiting for the next big moment to hit. This release sounds like they really found what works. It's darker, heavier, and much more cohesive than anything they've done before. I have found myself revisiting this EP a lot recently, and it manages to hold my attention the whole way through. They found away to cut away all the fat, and a 6 track release is actually perfect for their sound. I wouldn't mind if they released EPs rather than albums from this point onward. Beyond that, this album has a lot of great moments. The way the first note of the EP hits, the "a tear in the fabric of life" soft vocal leading into the breakdown, the diggadiggadiggadigga guitar lead during the riff at 10:27, the final breakdown of the EP. Just a lot of great and memorable moments that make the whole EP so strong. I don't think I can't pick out individual tracks too well on this EP, it acts as a single piece. Great riffs, awesome drumwork, improved vocals, cool lyrics - this release is just wonderful. As you said, the visual accompaniment of this EP really elevates it. I haven't spent a ton of time trying to understand the story and meaning, but it absolutely nails the atmosphere and darkness of the songs. I'm so impressed that something this ambitious is coming from a band like Knocked Loose. I can't remember the last time I saw something like this.

This was my first experience of Knocked Loose and I struggled a bit with the vocals first time round. Loved the instrumentals from the very first track and that's what brought me back to the EP. Now the vocals seem a good fit after a few listens. The whole EP seems very coherent too, don't think I would ever just listen to a single track but would need to listen from start to finish each time. Thanks for doing the long video!!
I’ve truthfully never had something so brutal evoke such an emotional response from me, but I’ve been revisiting this EP quite frequently since it’s release and the feelings have stayed consistent. I truly believe that KL have found their footing finally. I’m curious to see where they take us next
This is an absolutely EXCELLENT EP! I’ve listens to it SEVERAL times since it dropped, and I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it. I hope they go in this direction more with later releases, because as much as I like their older work, this is definitely my favorite. This and Laugh Tracks are my two personal favorites.
Seeing the album drop was a very big surprise for me, but listening to it the first time knocked my jaw loose! P.S. Your surprised reaction is always a treat 😂

Bryan's vocals are typically hit or miss across the board for everyone. They have some big ole bangers in that discography!!
