I remember seeing them in Hull and hung around 'till everyone had gone and meeting Dick Taylor and him showing me his 12 string guitare and giving me a quick lesson on it. What a great guy. Thank again Dick
Finally got to see this great band at their farewell gig & never realised what a phenomenal guitarist Dick Taylor is. He’s rarely mentioned when people talk about great guitarists, but his playing that night offered a masterclass in how to play proper R&B.
I saw them at the ABC in Hull in the 60's, I think they were supporting the Beatles. In the 80's met Phil May when he played the Blue Lamp with a group of other 60's legends. Still got The Pretty Things' singles.
Back then when London, London was! Back then, when West Europe was as it was. Back then when Bands, real Bands were. Back then, when Fans enjoyed to be live at a concert without stupid handphones. 🙏
The soundtrack and the video don't match - especially Phil's vocals, as well as the dancing continuing after the conclusion of the music. At 00:03 the headstock of a CBS Stratocaster puts in a brief appearance, but further on Dick is seen with his usual (at that time) ES 335 and Brian, with or without attached fan, is playing his Telecaster.
Whats he saying in the final chorus? Because it definitely doesn't sound like he's singing "But until I'll settle down, say I'll be your man" Sounds more like "but until then I says-I-am, say I dig it man don't bring me down" Also in the recording he says "and then to *him* I will be true" lol.
Such a great document of such a great band. Too bad the camera crew was so clueless as to not get a single good shot of Phil May!?!? WTF?! He was the main reason those girls were swooning - so cool in his US Drinking Team sweatshirt. 😎 They had their opportunity to zoom in on that shit and completely fumbled the ball. Still, glad this document exists, but it could’ve been so much better. Poor girls getting crushed up against the stage, Security had no idea what to do, after pulling that girl off of Brian Pendleton, Security put her back at the front in the crushing section. 🙄
This has to be the WORST BAND EVER. Viv Prince hit his drum so hard that his drumstick flew out of his hand and into the crowd. My friend picked it up and put it down her blouse. Viv refused to carry on until he got his drumstick back. My friend was not willing to give it back. In the end, he went into the dressing room and got another drumstick --- BIG BABY!!!
Phil May will be missed by all genuine rhythm and blues fans. RIP
Dig digging!
Brings me back to 1966, amazing, great times , I was 17

Still a fantastic song, after all these years!

namoral..... MUITO FODAAAA!!!!
One of their best. Love the vid. 14 year olds maybe.
Rest in peace Phil may
this was early 1965 for sure!!!
Was definitely earlier than 1966. Viv Prince is on drums and he was replaced by Skip Alan in November 1965.
Definitely early 1965.
The lyrics on the net do not match the original...although I can't tell what all of them were.
Vivian Prince on drums in 1966....Impossible. 1964 or 1965.
Yes, you are right. Skip Alan replaced Viv in November 1965!
toute une epoque,j'adore
my first single.
R.I.P Phil May
RIP Phil May.
RIP Phil
Phil May....a Fuckin Star ! Thankyou
Bowie defined this!
They were a fun band! Brian Pendleton complete with attached fan! This certainly doesn't sound like a live recording, though.

Artist license on the cutting room floor. Killing floor! Howlin' Wolf
@@maxsno I should have left you, a long time ago.
Pretty Things make The Yardbirds sound sick!
Viv's behind the drums, so this is not 1966, it's an earlier footage.
neckapb It's obvious that the audio doesn't match video, which is no big deal. Always happy to see new Pretty Things footage.
Those were the days! Not live though.

Enorme,toute une époque
et dire que les pretty things se situaient dans la catégorie "rebelle"
aucune agressivité de part et d'autre
I still have their Parachute album on 8 track. (Ask your mum.)
Vale Phil May. 🙏❤️❤️
65 SUPER GROUPE REBEL THE PRETTY SIXTIES !!!
GOOD..............................
Fucking Epic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The original Pretty Things were so much better than the Rolling Stones. They were more of a mod band like the Who and Small Faces.
bowie retooled this one with ronno on pinups but do a far better performance on another of pretty things tunes rosalyn.
True
My dad John Stax on bass
Very seminal....
He's up there with the best
Is this where ELO got it from?

so sorry I'm 50 too late!

Must have been 1964.
Ahead of the game!!!
Recording sounds live but doesn't match the video. Vintage wild stuff though.
Not cocaine on the front row being passed to the singer but a girls knickers!
Apparently the biggest dopers of them all. Later on though...
What a drag Phil had such a stupid reason to die

Yowsers, and this was supposed to be the man who influenced Keith Moon and was thrown out of the "Hells Angels" for bad behaviour!
He should have spare sticks tucked down the side of the kit somewhere, all drummers carry spares.
Viv is a one-off, no one messes with Viv :)
Worst band ever? NO WAY!
