Billy has 3 Thompson’s. A dread that is spruce top/mahogany back, a dread shade top spruce/rosewood and an OM spruce/rosewood. Thompson did a signature issue of 33 like Billy’s shadetop and they run $10k. Interesting side note - the rosewood that Thompson used in both Billy’s and Molly’s shadetops came from a load of logs that was being shipped from South America to the Netherlands in 1937 and the ship sunk. The logs were salvaged in 2006. So this is about as close as you will get to a prewar Martin without it actually being one.
Excellent recording quality: that special tone of Brazilian rosewood comes through clearly, even though it's hard to capture so well on equipment outside the studio.
Beautiful tone all the way through. Different than a Martin, but I was just as impressed with the clarity. Of course Billy has a lot to do with that, but this guitar is responsive. It gives you what you ask it for. Would love to hear a jumbo version of this excellent instrument.
Funny video. He starts out like everyone selling a guitar. Usually a poor demo from the sales guy. Then he goes all Billy Strings. Probably wouldn’t sell me on a guitar. Watching him play depresses me and would make me feel bad for the guitar I’d buy. I’ll never be that good. Lol
this is a guitar for somebody who knows what they are doing. Sounds amazing. Preston Thompson, one of the very best in the business. But this guitar today with its Brazilian appointments will push over $10K, out of reach of most great younger musicians. Most gigging musicians get cold sweat taking anything out on the road worth more than $5K because it's the road and accidents do happen and thieves abound. Hopefully someone bought this who is giving it a good playing!
Andrew, question is who? Do your homework and you might re-think your statement. Try to play 3 of your top high end acoustics and tell us which one is better.

@@tristannolan85 wow, which one? o.O
@IvanTheMic he had it repaired. It's his original thompson. The one he plays most show and Still does.
Billy is clearly one of the all-time greats of any era.
I totally agree with that!!!
Wow....simply incredible sounding!
One of the rare demos when you can really get into the guitar tone, and man, it sounds so good!
Y'all are livin the dream
Wonderful instrument this is.
If I owned one of those I could sound just like Billy Strings.
No you could get close his tone comes from his fingers
@@joshferguson9703Maybe its true, but you you are surely worst

Modern day guitar hero

Killer player!!!
Are dreadnaughts similar to dreadlocks?
Pretty much. It's a little known secret in the music industry.
Martin D14 ?
how much that guitar?
I think 13K
how much did you have to pay for that rosewood?
Probably around 10k
@@tristannolan85 I think it was 13K
They take souls to lease these but they come kill you after ten years
Sounds right off the table.
Sounds like a Martin to me ( which is a good thing)

How much
Pretty sure those are in the 10 tp 20 thousand range.
The funny thing is I was surprised to hear you play this tune, because the only other person I've ever heard play this is Presely Barker.
and 50 years before ...Doc Watson !!!!!!
Presley has a lot of work to do before he's worthy to even change Billy's strings. :-)
@@Leutchik I have to disagree with this. Even when you made this comment Presley was competitive at flatpicking contests
Sounds gorgeous, but not my tone. I'm a Martin guy

Yes, great guitar, but it doesn't have that special dry, woody tone that comes from the best Martin D-18's.
They have stole the design from martin
reverendmississippi cry me a river. EVERYONE has “stolen” designs from Martin.
Tyler W Right?!!!
That’s like saying when my son takes a shit it looks like mine
They stole that tire design from Michelin. Michelin didn’t come up with the tire nor did they perfect it. Its a good design though.
Tare it up young man, good job.
