I have just started crafting my violin and I am very grateful that you share your work and methods. I wish you well and hope the process continues smoothly!
@@lilcatra8503 After assembling the top and bottom to the rib structure, I worked on the scroll at class before COVID-19 interrupted scheduling, until *hopefully* August 12, when it is expected to reopen.
Thank you. Your work is really well done, precise and professional. I did my purfling many years but never had the good idea to put the stripes in for trial and glue afterwards in sections. This gives a chance of perfect connections in the corner mitres.
the violin is one of the GREATEST inventions of human kind, right after the wheel and remote control ( where is a laughing face when you need one). and i am about to build one.
Mr. Kimon, a beautiful video and thank you for your openness in showing us how the purfuling is made. I would love to know how each side becomes black? Is it the actual material you put inside the grooves cut into the wood? Thank you in advance! Christopher Bolduc
Is it possible to do additional purfling on an already finished violin? If not for repair purposes, but just as additional decoration, is it even advisable?
Thank you! I understand what you mean but you have to keep in mind that it takes a lot of time to make every video and that I also need to work to earn my living! Be patient please!!!
I just purchased a purfling 'cutter' somewhat like yours. in English, it's a specialized 'cutting gauge.' I've seen it referred to as a 'gramil', but not in English. What do you call it in your native language?
I think that the violin-making native language is the Italian language. They call this device "filettatore" which might derive from the word "filetto" that means "purfling". These rare tools may have no specific name in different languages. As fa as I know, "purfling cutter" is it's name in English.
'Purfling Cutter' is what I would call it too, even though it's basically a specialized 'cutting gauge' ;-) . PS When I googled 'gramil' the pictures that show up are all woodworking marking gauges.

Hello Christopher. Thank to your question I'm making a video on the purfling that will be online the 11th of november.
@@maestrokimon Looking forward to this!
What is the device called which you used to apply the glue? also where did you purchase it. Thank you very much again for the videos.
It's just a drop counter!

I wouldn't recommend to do it. You will ruin the varnish and alter the authenticity of the instrument.
Hi, did you use water, or soak the linings when bending? I didn’t see in the video.
No you don't need to do that. Just dry!
Maestro, why don't we cut a provisional fluting channel first, then we don't have to cut the purfling channel so deep?
❤❤❤
Great video, I'm just wondering what the tool was called that u used to make tha guideline for the purfling
A purfling cutter!!!
Thank you
A gramil.
how large is the chisel?
I really like the series but we have to wait too long for the next part etc
Thank you! I understand what you mean but you have to keep in mind that it takes a lot of time to make every video and that I also need to work to earn my living! Be patient please!!!
