My 7yo son has wanted a hamster for years (I think largely because of hamster TikTok/UA-cam), but we have been renovating our house so we kept telling him no. We finally compromised and said we'd get a fish, but once we got to the pet store yesterday my wife and I caved, read the care guide they had, and bought a dwarf hamster, a habitat, and all the accessories (yes, including a ball and a bunch of tunnels). Then we got home, found your UA-cam, and today I'm returning the habitat and most of the accessories we bought and running to Home Depot to pick up some melamine and acrylic to build a bigger, deeper habitat for Comet. And my wife is ordering all new accessories from NiteAngel and sprays from Etsy. So our little hamster thanks you.
@yes Doing really well. Ended up using a glass reptile habitat we found on FB marketplace instead of building something, just to save a bit of money (though we cleaned and descented it thoroughly). We've started getting different materials for bedding and ordering sprays. She's super tame, so I've been picking her up without any problems for a while now but my kids are kind of just learning to handle her. And they make new little cardboard mazes every weekend for her to play in while I do the habitat cleanings.
i used to have my hamster in a small pet store cage.. it was the quick clean apartment, but when i watched your videos i upgraded my hamster immediately to a bin cage big enough
@@Bl3116 you can to to a lot of stores such as walmart, target, home depot, etc. and get some sort or mesh and cut parts of the top of the bin off and duct tape (on the top) the mesh to the bin. make sure the bin is a suitable size for hamsters!!
There's also a "trend" on tiktok that says: what's the funniest way your hamster died" I'm like WTF. And most comments are heartbreaking. It's not even a joke, poor animals suffer a lot
Oh my gosh I relate to that first tiktok so much! My longhair syrian Pumpkaboo came into my life because he very clearly had escaped from someone else. I saw him running around outside in my apartment complex at night on the way back from getting my laundry. I thought he was a rat at first! I caught him with a carrot and tupperware just to get him out of danger. After asking everyone, checking with the property managers, and posting on next door trying to find his owner, nobody came forward to claim him. I had no idea how to take care of a hamster so I actually followed your videos to find out how to set up an enclosure for him and feed him correctly! I've had him for almost six months now and love him so much. But he absolutely is a little escape artist and we went through progressively bigger enclosures with different types of enrichment till we got a configuration he decided he liked lol.

my hamster passed away 2 weeks ago but i am so happy knowing he lived a great life thanks to victoria. hopefully now others will not make the same mistakes we did, and then raise kids who will also take great care and show love to their hamsters!

I think TikTok is definitely the platform I see the most hamster abuse/neglect or just uneducated owners in general! I am a small, growing content creator and I see it constantly unfortunately. 😢 I get a lot of “hamsters are small and don’t need that” and it’s frustrating. I love the education side though! Thanks for sharing these as I think it’s important.

@@existentialnoodles My dad had a snake which unfortunately passed recently, and when he was younger (the snake lived 30 year) his dad (my grandfather) made a custom enclosure. Where I live it can get kinda cold so we installed a new heater where the snake’s heater users to be. I wish I could give you an answer but I can’t, I would recommend like renovating and IKEA cabinet or something, or, if your budget is higher, maybe getting one custom made or getting some wood or something from a local shop and building one 💕

Thank you for that information about a hamster being dead or "hibernating". My hamster (in my profile pic) passed recently and I really struggled with being afraid that I had buried him and he wasn't dead. He definitely was very stiff though, so it puts my mind at ease knowing I didn't accidentally bury my hamster alive.
Many people fall for the myth of hamsters hibernating, but in reality it's not that common unless your home is absolutely freezing and at that point they would go into torpor and without help of warming up quick enough they would still pass away.

I got my hamster Sam (chinese hamster) in 6th grade. I came accross your page and learned all about the proper ways to care for him, I even created a tiktok where I gave out tons of helpful tips that let even more people learn. Over the summer after my freshman year of highschool Sam passed away. He was almost 4 years old at the time and I couldn't have been happier to have spent as much time with him as I did. Thank you for educating people and giving so many hamsters better lives
On the last TikTok where u were talking about hybernation and like the tempatures it needs to be I am so glad that in the winter I keep a heater on in my room that keeps my room at at least 75 degrees

Yep had a front door my hamster got out under. Found him in the communal area and rescued him before the cat upstairs got to him. My other little sod got out and got into my bedroom. Woke to him sitting on my pillow staring at me. He licked the tip of my nose, settled down and fell asleep.

i hate hamster tiktok. whenever some isn’t caring for them properly, 90% of the time they get defensive and say they’re too broke or that the hamster is fine in the tiny tale cage. it’s so sad.
About that joke tiktok; impulsive thoughts don't work that way and people actually struggle with them lots, people like me. So those tiktoks are actually really harmful to people with ocd.
One time my Hamster got lost, because he chewed at the Ventilation holes in the Plexiglas and made a hole big enough to escape (in One Night!!!)… I’ve searched for him for a week… I have two cats and thought they killed and ate him… 8 days later I saw him eating from one of the cat bowls, while my cats shared the other one… he was fatter than before… 3 or 4 months later we had to lay the Couch on the side, because on leg was lose… and over a hundred pieces of cat Good Fell out of a tiny hole and there was a big ass Hamster nest made out of parts of the inside of the Couch…
Unfortunately TikTok and UA-cam Shorts are full of Hamsters and other small animals being mistreated. I always report those kinds of videos, but I don’t think it changes what gets put in the feed. It’s especially bad on Shorts, I’ve seen some pretty traumatizing things that are going to scar me for years and UA-cam doesn’t seem to care.
the thing is social media platforms will flag or delete videos of dogs or cats being mistreated or in distress but when it comes to hamsters being mistreated, it’s deemed as “funny”
@@hi-zp8db unfortunately, people like watching animal videos, but hate learning anything about them. I often see people fight for their own ignorance against comments with information. It's as if their right to not be informed about things should have been protected above anything else, and putting their immediate feelings (of not wanting to be bothered) above animal welfare as a whole. I just don't understand it, but people have a visceral reaction against new information.
I agree with that Xmas thing! I got my hubby a chameleon for Xmas but we discussed getting a reptile for months before I just purchased additionally I told him and let him pick… I think this is better then just handing them any random reptile he didn’t choose…
hey victoria! i got my 2.5 month old robo a month ago and started leaving fresh veggies in a bowl for him, but he doesn't want to eat anything (lettuce, carrot, cauliflower). he's a fan of mealworms, sunflower seeds and his usual mix though. how do i encourage him to eat his veggies??

i have a castle tiny tales cage so when i get my hamster in 2 days i will start making a bin cage so it can be happier. i did make a box with bedding so i can take it out and let it burrow when it wants to I also made a few hideouts and stuff for it.

Now some of these makes me feel better about my hamster falling off her wheel at night (the wheel is a niteangle medium and I have a dwarf) because she was running too fast.
My hamster is in a 55 gallon tank and I have a thermometer in her cage. She loves to dig. My besties hates to dig and will throw the beding out if it's too much. We both have two different set ups. Each little dude has its own personality and it makes me love them more. We bought put hamsters together. Also it's not my first I use to breed for a pet store.

Yep had a front door my hamster got out under. Found him in the communal area and rescued him before the cat upstairs got to him. My other little sod got out and got into my bedroom. Woke to him sitting on my pillow staring at me. He licked the tip of my nose, settled down and fell asleep.

i hate hamster tiktok. whenever some isn’t caring for them properly, 90% of the time they get defensive and say they’re too broke or that the hamster is fine in the tiny tale cage. it’s so sad.
About that joke tiktok; impulsive thoughts don't work that way and people actually struggle with them lots, people like me. So those tiktoks are actually really harmful to people with ocd.

One time my Hamster got lost, because he chewed at the Ventilation holes in the Plexiglas and made a hole big enough to escape (in One Night!!!)… I’ve searched for him for a week… I have two cats and thought they killed and ate him… 8 days later I saw him eating from one of the cat bowls, while my cats shared the other one… he was fatter than before… 3 or 4 months later we had to lay the Couch on the side, because on leg was lose… and over a hundred pieces of cat Good Fell out of a tiny hole and there was a big ass Hamster nest made out of parts of the inside of the Couch…
Unfortunately TikTok and UA-cam Shorts are full of Hamsters and other small animals being mistreated. I always report those kinds of videos, but I don’t think it changes what gets put in the feed. It’s especially bad on Shorts, I’ve seen some pretty traumatizing things that are going to scar me for years and UA-cam doesn’t seem to care.
the thing is social media platforms will flag or delete videos of dogs or cats being mistreated or in distress but when it comes to hamsters being mistreated, it’s deemed as “funny”
@@hi-zp8db unfortunately, people like watching animal videos, but hate learning anything about them. I often see people fight for their own ignorance against comments with information. It's as if their right to not be informed about things should have been protected above anything else, and putting their immediate feelings (of not wanting to be bothered) above animal welfare as a whole. I just don't understand it, but people have a visceral reaction against new information.

I agree with that Xmas thing! I got my hubby a chameleon for Xmas but we discussed getting a reptile for months before I just purchased additionally I told him and let him pick… I think this is better then just handing them any random reptile he didn’t choose…
When I was aware that my hamster was dead I wasnt able to look into cage for half of a day, as if she was only sleeping.
The second video you showed, I saw the end and the hamster got itself to the other side and the person opened the door and got it out safely.
It would make my year if a hamster randomly tunneled into my home and surprised me.

hey victoria! i got my 2.5 month old robo a month ago and started leaving fresh veggies in a bowl for him, but he doesn't want to eat anything (lettuce, carrot, cauliflower). he's a fan of mealworms, sunflower seeds and his usual mix though. how do i encourage him to eat his veggies??

i have a castle tiny tales cage so when i get my hamster in 2 days i will start making a bin cage so it can be happier. i did make a box with bedding so i can take it out and let it burrow when it wants to I also made a few hideouts and stuff for it.

when i got my first hamster (hes still with me) i did not know that they cant have those cages but when i figured out i jumped straight away to get a glass tank and hes ok now

Spray baths should not be used with hamsters :) Hamsters need sand baths.
I did Year's of research before i got fluffball my rabbit she has her own xpen and her door is always open she drinks and eats from bowl's i know drinking from a water bottle can cause dehydration and she has plenty of hay

Now some of these makes me feel better about my hamster falling off her wheel at night (the wheel is a niteangle medium and I have a dwarf) because she was running too fast.
My hamster is in a 55 gallon tank and I have a thermometer in her cage. She loves to dig. My besties hates to dig and will throw the beding out if it's too much. We both have two different set ups. Each little dude has its own personality and it makes me love them more. We bought put hamsters together. Also it's not my first I use to breed for a pet store.
Hey I was wondering something, I have a robroski and she covers her food bowl with bedding, and also hides her food around the cage, I can never tell what she's eating and what she isn't or wether or not she needs food, I was wondering if I should start removing the bedding on the food bowl or is this normal?
