Wow , what a legend , great to hear him interviewed !! I saw him playing all over L.A. in the 60's to present , and to think I would eventually work with his son Nick and with Dave Mustaine on Megadeth.
My saxophone hero! I first heard Don Menza in 1975 or '76. He was sitting in with Supersax at Donte's in North Hollywood. An amazing player, ...he has inspired me for many years
Such an incredible player. Peaceful poet on Louis bellson’s “hot”. Channel one suite. Entire Louis bellson “explosion” album. His big band album. Great stuff. Thanks for posting. Never heard him mimic Getz and he does it well.
Agree completely. But I connect Menza with Buddy Rich's Channel 1 Suite, from the Album Mercy, Mercy, Mercy (Live Album). I also remember him playing at Donte's in North Hollywood in the early '70's.
Mike Frankel yeah it’s a classic. Plus his charts are incredible (rose tattoo, samandrea swing, groove blues). The Menza Big Band album is my favorite.
Jake Feinberg , THANK YOU for this interview!! A grand piece of Americana and the gift of Jazz to the World and to History forevermore!!
Don Menza with the Buddy Rich Band, LEGEND!
Agree!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don just has a beautiful philosophy about the whole thing . A man that’s totally honest and loves the saxophone.
