With the second story it is insane that an aunt be asked to be called mommy when the actual mother is still alive, still a legal guardian of the kids, and the aunt isn’t in a step parent situation. She is overstepping boundaries that should be clear. I’d be worried about what other boundaries she’d be ok crossing.

To the guy who’s wife seems super controlling over having your mom over you’re right to take your mother’s side bc your wife is wrong she doesn’t get to make all the rules and o know women will give me heat for this but if a woman can’t act like her man’s equal instead of his superior just bc you can bare children then the man should have all the day bc your wife is horrible I mean she made your mother cry while being her hostess at YOUR house be a damn man put your foot down and tell your wife if she don’t like it kick rocks bc your mother will be there when your wife is long gone
Story 3: OP and his mother are 100% NTA. Imagine inviting someone to come visit you, only to spend no time with them. Not only that, but when they express frustration at the situation and say they won’t visit again (while telling you they’re still open to having you visit them), you somehow turn it around on them and get angry at them. They invited her, of course they should take some time off to spend with her. If the problem was the frequency of visits then just invite mom less, not tell her “we’re going to act like you’re not even here”
I would also add that if mom wants to keep visiting frequently, at least let her know that they won't be able to host her properly all the time because of their schedule. Don't just go and pretend she doesn't exist half the time, if not most.
The third story is a bit fuzzy as far as AH or not for being bad hosts. They were bad hosts but they were also clearly setting expectations that they would not be a traditional type host. OP’s mother should have found something to do with herself. Visit family/friends in the area, go explore town, take kids out to lunch (this might require some calls to school and strict timing), really there were many things she could have done. The OP should have pointed this out rather than just plainly siding with his mom. It might also be good to at least once in a while take a day off to hang with the mother. I understand PTO should be used wisely but to keep a relationship with the mom it might be wise. Some companies might also allow people to take sick days for going to doctors appointments which would mean he could take a sick day and spend most of it with his mom if he plans well.
