it depends what you mean by fixing! having worked as an industial mecanic since 1978 when i could make new parts for say any tractor! by copying the destoyd parts making new ones. and up until today where everything is electronic, i have to agree that if the failure is electronic, its best to contact a spesialist. hehe i still change oils - filters- chains- straps and such.. but now if say a gearshifter is broken i check the manual and order required parts,,,, depending on whats required! somtimes its enough to change a tiny part, and somtimes you have to send the whole gaerbox in for maintance.
samkom33 Problem is that exactly what you described that you “still do” is exactly can the farmers are complaining about. It’s not something electric or anything major most of the time, it could be a $200 part that needs replaced but unless they pay Deere to actually install it and tell the software that a part is actually installed they can’t use their tractor, which runs in the hundreds if not thousands along with paying to get the tractor into the dealer and back to the farm. In the simplest of terms this would be akin to me replacing the starter in my car, a consumable, which runs about $160 and then paying a tow truck to get it to the dealer (about $200 where I live) so the dealer can actually turn the part “on” and then charging me another $500-$1000 to do just that. So a $160 fix just turned into a $800-$1,400 fix. And for these farmers that’s EVERY repair since the software is designed to run a systems check and stop the tractor if ANY system is not functioning. So that belt you like to replace yourself? Then the software would have to be told that you indeed replaced it before it would even turn the machine on. Imagine your car not running because the air filter didn’t pass the software check and instead of replacing a $10 part yourself I turns into a $200 trip to the dealer plus a $500-$1000 service charge plus whatever the dealer wants to charge for a air filter since they’re the only ones who can really change it, say $100? So what would rather have? Be able to DIY for $10 or “no right to fix” and pay $1,300? That’s what the farmers are fighting for.
Silage is a high volume feed for livestock that allows use of the whole corn plant, not just the ear itself, and is a great way to maximize your acres, the other form of corn feed is just the kernels themselves, and then for sweet corn, you just harvest the cob as a whole and leave the plant material in the field
