Calgary water emergency: Officials “confident” repairs finished by July 5

- Calgary officials provided an update on the water emergency Wednesday, saying that regular water supply will likely be restored on the earlier end of the timeline estimate - in about three weeks rather than five.
Michael Thompson, general manager of infrastructure services, said the repairs on the five hot spots are continuing quickly. He said construction is ongoing 24/7 at two locations.
Thompson said all the damaged pipes are now exposed and the precise locations identified. The next steps will be cutting the damaged sections of pipe and readying them for removal.
The two sections of specialized water pipe that arrived from San Diego are being treated at a local fabrication shop.
The initial timeline for a return to normal water service was three to five weeks. That includes repairing the five hot spots, executing feeder main flushing and testing, getting the pipe ready for network flow, restoring the city water and returning the system to normal service.
Thompson said Wednesday the repair estimate is now “on the lower end,” closer to three weeks.

Calgarians are resilient. We got through the 100-year flood. We'll get through this as well.
😂😂😂
Step down.
Don't put a brick in your toilet tank. That's an idiotic suggestion.
We need a new maypr
3-5 days has become 3-5 weeks? So, September…. When will they cancel Stampede? Seems unwise to bring in a million more people during a state of emergency, no?
Fixed by July 5th first day of the Calgary stampede. Lucky this happened this year with good Elbow flow and not in winter.
What's with this Elbow flow, the Glenmore treatment plant treats water from the Glenmore Reservoir , granted the Glenmore Reservoir is filled by the Elbow but at this time of the year since 2013, we have been keeping the level low in the reservoir because of spring rains and spring runoff. The bottleneck is that the Glenmore water plant was for when Calgary only had 40% of our current population not the flow of the Elbow.
@@johnwang9914 You cannot take more water going into Glenmore than coming in. The flow is low August on, very low flow in winter. Last year restrictions was due to low flow. Instead of reducing by 25% we would be lucky if we could use 25%.
@@christopherblack4520 Actually, you can take more than is fed in for a while, all that happens is the levels drop. That's the whole purpose of a reservoir so you could temporarily draw more than goes in. The same is true of the district reservoirs whose levels the city is asking us to go easy on as the flow into them is now only 80% of the average that they need. The district reservoirs exist so that the feeder lines need not meet peak demand but can make up for the peaks overnight when people aren't using as much water. Large lake reservoirs like Glenmore Landing are designed to weather droughts which Alberta has been in for decades, also Lake Mead has been suffering from higher draws than what comes in for several decades now as well. The whole point of a reservoir is so you can't draw more than flows in.
@@johnwang9914 Calgary had restrictions last year due to the flow rate. What I'm saying is we would be much worse off if it happened last year during restrictions. Even this year the City was talking about the limit for outdoor watering. Calgary and the area have to wake up that we have a water problem which will get worse as the population grows. We cannot drain the reservoir then look stupid when there is no water.
Oh this will be interesting… social media department left comments on…. Grabs the popcorn
need to see actual videos of this before I buy it
I bet the water will be shut off again as soon as stampede is over for more “repairs”. See you next Tuesday!
tired of seeing this cu next Tuesday mayor
God bless that our lord will intervene with your water prolem
To use the pool water from the recreational centres requires trucking that water around, couldn't water just be trucked from the Bearspaw treatment plant itself or was it necessary to have shut down that plant... If it had to be shutdown then wouldn't that mean any overland temporary pipes require a restart of the plant hence greatly complicating such plans.
It seems that some of these measures are just cosmetic because the ignorant would be upset if they thought someone else was allowed to use water when they are asked to reduce their consumption.
I can soon help them to answer those questions. Please try your best to wash a full loads of clothes, reduce your shower time by 25%....
It is a bit sad that the same message must be repeated or people will just ease off their conservation efforts and if course they are struggling to add new information with each announcement so the announcements don't seem stale.
No violet?
Done just in time for Stampede……. It’s a miracle!!!! 😂😂😂
Shut off the water in tsuutina
Buy a teleprompter!
Just piss in the front lawn.
Jeez as conference goes on I was right 😂😂😂😂
Is this guy General,Sergent or Colonel, sorry don't understand this type of ranks😮
Looks like the head of the rainbow enforcement squad by the pretty stripes somebody put on his uniform
He has rainbows on his uniform 😂😂😂😂
I suggest filling the toilet tank with spray foam insulation. One can of the stuff will reduce the amount of water to zero litres per flush.
If it were not for Stampede, the mayor would not bother fixing the pipe until the frost sets in this fall.
Gotta love the rainbows on the uniform clown country he should have it on his glasses too and his name should be colorful too I'm offended it's not
I wonder if he is a relative of our former mayor Duerr...
Thumbs up to Mayor Gondek!
