- Got a new attachment for our Hoss Wheel Hoe.
The Disk Harrow works beautifully in our Loam soil.
More info (and link to buy) here: tractortimewithtim.com/wordpre...
The only negative is that I won't get to use my John Deere 1025R and King Kutter tiller as much because the Hoss disk harrow is perfect for preparing seed beds after the initial tilling. - Навчання та стиль
Really liking that Hoss. So versatile for the garden. I picked up a long handled garden weasel the other day and am finding it working well for weeding. Remember the garden weasel ads on TV when we were kids? The garden here in MD is really starting to grow like crazy with the hotter weather we've been finally getting. Keep the videos coming!!!!
Yea, bought one of those things similar to the 'garden weasel' a couple of years ago. Rarely use it.
We really like our Hoss Wheel hoe. Pushes easier than the "big wheel' varieties, and supports more attachments.
I own it, and don't agree at all that it doesn't straddle corn well. The control is very precise. when the corn gets bigger, you can turn the discs to weed pretty close and also, depending on how much umph you put into each forward push, you can slightly hill the corn or moderately hill the corn at the same time, burying some weeds that you might otherwise have to take out from the side with a traditional hoe. The other thing it's good for is breaking up hard crust that forms after a rain and maybe a little hot weather afterwards. Doesn't have to go deep, just allows seeds to emerge and keeps things workable for future weedings.
I originally did not order the disc attachment with my hoss tools package because I thought it was too cute and had to be a gimmick. Then I saw some youtube vids of it in action, thought up some uses for it and decided to give it a try. It's definitely not a gimmick!
Your comment tells me more then the last 20 UA-cam videos. Thanks
Envying your nice soil from the Laurel Highlands of western PA, Katriel. Because of the terrain, we have valleys with nice top soil, but sloping ground is typically a mix of grey and red clay. We typically have to till twice and don't plant until late May because of hard freezes. My wheel hoe was built by an Amish neighbor who instructed me in its usage in Pennsylvania Dutch. Thanks to your excellent videos, I'm convinced my 1025R needs a tiller like yours so I can retire the old Sears roto-tiller that shakes my fillings loose :)
Thanks for checking in, and for the entertaining comment. I'm quite familiar with those 'shake the fillings loose' tillers. No fun at all.
We are in Northern Arizona hard clay, found your channel looking for info on a Deere tractor, decided to go with the 2025r bc of the 270 backhoe or clay here is rock hard...
Guys my wife and i enjoy your videos a lot keep them coming, greetings
+Extraterrestre Ermitaño welcome! Thanks for checking in.
Here in Colmar, Pennsylvania we have clay soil which makes fore either very heavy wet soil or bone dry. We chose raised beds this year which the 1025R doesn't like too much!
I'm from Jamestown, NY and your soil looks like you've added or worked it very well. I grow blueberries and blackberries and always have to add more to the soil. The tool you have shown would or well after grounds been broken as a weed deterant.
You're at 46k subscribers and growing!
LOL I live in northwestern Ohio and we have a heavy clay soil that I would never get through with that Hoss disk unless johnny stopped by first and made a few passes with the tiller. over the years I have amended it with leaves, grass clippings and of course compost it's better, but it's still a backbreaker in the spring to cultivate.
I live in Central PA and we have slate land....very very hard to farm in if you dont keep working and working and working the dirt...
Denver area, Colorado - Mostly alkaline clay around here, but we're near a creek and have alkaline sandy loam. pH averages 7.5 to 8.5.
Its really dry here. I really enjoy your videos learned a lot good job
+Jim Bob ? Thanks for watching!
Can you adjust those so that you can just use that for cultivation in between growing rows?
I'm located in central (coastal) Eastern NC. We have an abundance of soil types. Mostly Lenoir, Craven types which are sandy loams with clay mixture. Our top soil is only about 6-8" in depth. We're about 15 foot above sea level.
Christy grew up between Williamston and Washington on 171
Ware did you find that at that look sweet
Y'all could design one of those with a swash plate pump motor with a worm gear box that when you pushed it would translate that force into driving disks or even a set of tiller blades. You could retrofit a push lawnmower into one. 😊
Sir I want this how can get it
South Mississippi here! Clay sandy loam soil..
Moore, Oklahoma - Very hard and compacted clay soil.
In south TEXAS you have sand and right below clay.
my family is from southern Indiana and we have a 2100 acre farm and our soil type Change very much and I mean with in five feet it can change mostly sandy clay
+Tim Marvel southwest? Southeast?
Southern New England......rocks, rocks...and more rocks. That's why we have so many stone walls. All left over from the great glacier. Actually I think the rocks are having babies. I collect hem up, and they keep coming back.
Welcome to our channel. Thanks for commenting!
Turn them inn and throw a little dirt on corn to smother grass weeds out of between corn 👍great video
My grand dad has a 5 shank ripper that we can bearly pull with a jd 9930 in south west penn.
Great video! Thanks for sharing it! I bought the weed and seed combo from Hoss after watching this and cant wait to use it. One constructive comment....the background noise of this video is really bothersome. It really detracts from what is otherwise a great video.
My dirt isn't quite like yours but close with more rocks. With the Hoss Wheel my back would give out on my size garden. I need a cultivator for the tractor. It's gone pretty good this year with the front tine tiller. I think if I do it every couple weeks I'll be alright. When the ground gets hard packed it's hard to use the tiller, jumps all over the place. Our corn is over a foot tall on the first plantings and like your on the second plantings. Our garden is doing great. I'll have to take some pics and post them on GTT. Our cabbage is about ready to pick too. Got a head the other day for my wife's sister.
Our first planting is now knee high. I'm behind on the video publishing as usual. Of course, this is a GOOD thing, as it means we have more (hopefully interesting) videos coming up.
I've never experienced soil like we have here before. Only tilled once early this spring (before first corn planting). Since then, only worked with the Hoss Disk Harrow. Amazing. Where I grew up, we technically had 'loam' soil, but it packed tight after a heavy rain.
Maybe you can use your Deere to cultivate your rows??? Like you say, the front tine tiller will jump all over the place.
I'm trying to save for a cultivator for the tractor.
+mi2tn sounds good. I dunno, though. With the low clearance, is it really worth it?
I'm game.
mi2tn if your ok with getting a used one look on Craigs list. That is what I did found one for $100 cleaned it
up and removed the rust shot a can of paint on it and put some sweeps on it and for about $135 I have a cultivator. I'm seeing some advantages to the cultivators the rows seem to hold the moisture better than where I till. Also the cultivator forms little ridges and valleys where the sweeps run and helps catch rain water and stop run off if you are planting on land that is not level. The one disadvantage is when the plants exceed a certain height your done with a tiller you can still get in the rows.
Hi, greetings .Is it a patented one (disc hoe).If not can you send me descriptive drawing.I am form India.
I'm from Clare county Michigan and the soil is nothing but rocks.
ahhh we are having a huge dry spell and what's weird is before the dry spell we had a 5"-15" rain
Georgia I've got red clay it grows great
good to hear. The red clay i've seen in NC and VA dries out quickly. It is pretty hard to work with.
Eastern Nebraska has a lot of clay soil. However it is very fertile. Western Nebraska is mostly sand. not a fertile but still able to grow crops.
Como se chama o nome dessa ferramenta 🇧🇷
Hi Sir,
This is very use full. I want it in India. But in that site i could find this disc tool. Please send me the link if possible. Advance thanks for your help.
southwest VA just across the state line from were TN and NC meet at the VA border which puts me in the northern end of the TN valley . . . lots of clay , heavy , hard , red clay and you get clay in Georgia too.
Thanks. I don’t think the Hoss disk harrow attachment is for you.
live in a small town in NW Ohio and have hard clay loom soil if u keep it loose it is easy to grow crops in
Thanks for watching. Our soil stays incredibly loose, even after large rains. I was able to use the hoss push plow this week to incorporate some nitrogen even after 2.5 inches of rain.
pennsylvania and we have alot of clay soil
How to buy in india.how much cast
Would love to be able to use something like this. Unfortunately, we have way too many rocks (boulders) on our property.
My husband is from WI. I hear him & his family are always talking about going to shop @Menards.
Como los encuentro
nothing like good family fun
Nc. Kansas - sandy loam and clay !! Some Detroit
Appears well done. Can you adjust deeper...how. pull disc's could work too...???Dennis
Not really. Disking up to the ‘axle’ already. These small disk blades don’t allow any deeper.
How I get it in India
North West Texas has hard clay sand soil
Here in the Piedmont area of NC we have a mix of red clay but oddly my back garden is a more sandy soil. From all the artifacts I've plowed up horse shoes ect I'm thinking it may have been a horse pen long ago.
I like that Hoss wheel hoe Tim but that looks like a tool for some one with a good back just watching you use that made my back ache LOL. I been trying to justify laying out $300+ for the Hoss seeder I really like the quality of it and made in the USA.
Nice video better not let Johnny see you using that he may get a complex LOL.
+mrelectron62 I've got a review of the seeder coming up soon. Used it the same evening as the disk harrow...
+mrelectron62 oh, and the disk harrow didn't push hard at all. Really surprised.
Tractor Time with Tim I'll be keeping an eye out for that Tim enjoy your videos.
Tractor Time with Tim It's the leaning over the handles that gets me Tim. More or less why I gave up on my roto tiller to maintain the rows and went to the cultivators not to mention it was getting worn out too after 30 yrs of service needs to be over hauled.
hey where did you find this at and was it very much price wise
Matt,
This link will get you to their site. shrsl.com/?~cvkf
When you think about all of the different configurations/attachments, they really aren't that expensive.
Beautiful
Where did you get that disc harrow? Does Hiss sell them?
+Robb Simer yes. Pleas use link on my website. We get commission if you do and it does not cost you any more.
I thought you were going to hill the corn, but the disks are turned the wrong way
Hey Tim, Try straddling the rows of small plants with either the small stirrup hoes, cultivator teeth, sweeps or plows reversed and turned out if you want to throw dirt to the rows (potatoes or corn especially). Hoss makes all of those implements and a spreader bar to extend the width of attachment points, as I'm sure you've seen from their web site. I really should work for Hoss, I love their stuff and spread the word. Nice well made (in USA!) tools that work. It ain't rocket science!
+Tom Mathews exactly. I was just trying the disk. ...to see all of its possibilities.
I figured you were trying out your new toy! I commented mainly for the other folks who might not know. You can really clean up fast between rows with that disc harrow. Great products and good folks to work with. Enjoy your videos!
Tom Mathews Thanks Tom. I appreciate you watching, and I appreciate your comments.
I'm from Central Aisa, Uzbekistan, We have all the weird and good soil, Basically you can grow almost anything
Thanks for your comment! Very interesting.
What is weird soil used/for...housing roads ponds pasture/if not too weird... Dennis
Coming from southern Manitoba, heavy clay is life. The only plus is that it has a enormous natural supply of potassium and a high CEC.
Very interesting. So, you don't need to add Potassium at all?
+Tractor Time with Tim no not at all, the type of clay that is present naturally releases potassium over time and have an enormous amount stored that will ensure a supply for thousands of years.
Are you discing 1/2 width each pass with disc? in other words disc same soil twice sending 0.5% dirt left then back to the right after turning disc around and returning to starting position?? Confused.?that method gives you another chance to get the weeds you missed on first pass. Disc then functioning like a tandem disc would in one pass.
Did you watch and listen? Isn’t that exactly what I was doing?
At the same time??? Cannot read phone screen and watch movie simultaneously. No problem... I disced 65 years ago as a child same way you're doing it only on H farmall and approximately 14' John deere disc. Same way get it!! Disced every thing twice by
overlapping disc (width) half, round and round or back and forth on longer narrower fields. Or whatever you could to destroy most of weeds in hilly terraced fields. And go back over again and again the weeds the single gang missed all the while keeping seed bed smooth as possible for planter so it could plant properly. Dennis
I’d love one but can’t afford it
South Georgia- black dirt w/ sand - (coastal plains)
Statesville, NC has Carolina red clay that clumps up in to hard balls if you work the soil is too wet. I've added lots of compost to my garden to get more of a workable garden bed. I've been able to get my soil to where it doesn't clump up and it's turned it a brown color. I would love to have your soil as it's close to what I was am used to seeing from my home state of Michigan. I would be willing to send samples to you so you can see how red our clay is and so you can compare it to my soil and to your soil.
Go Blue!
+X495 John Deere I used to live in Cary. Let's just say that as far as I'm concerned you can keep your red clay! :-)
X495 John Deere I am from southern Michigan,we have clay you can ball here too, red, blue gray, yellow, with some sand, some prarie ,and some muck.Take your pick.
X495 John Deere Sorry at the poor attempt at humor, the indended thought is that the more we think it's different ,the more it's pretty much same no matter where we are in our great republic if we can keep it.
I took it as humorous. Was my response offensive? I was just having fun as well. Just normal discussion.
Do you work for Menard's?
+Philip Way Ha! No. The shirts are just a 'thing' with us for outdoor projects. They are all free after rebate.
We do purchase LOTS of stuff from Menards.
What on earth is that extremely loud noise in the background?
I really like that harrow!!
Neighbor decided to power wash their deck just as we started to record!
Evansville area actually over in posey county clay clay and more clay probably get by with this for a few times if you absolutely stayed on it if not youd be wasting time
Greenville SC is almost all Clay
you could have put on the extension bars and given you more clearance to straddle the row.
+Ted Papesh interesting idea. I never thought about trying to remove the disk gangs from their frame. Not sure it would work because the frame is what keeps the disk gangs rotated to the correct angle.
Good Point. Adding the extensions would have made this an easier job.
Sir agr mgvana ho to contact nub do
Missouri
I need one of those, did you get it at Menards?
Ha! Well, can't buy it at Menards (yet). I got it directly from Hoss www.hosstools.com
Thanks
hosstools.com/product/hoss-garden-seeder/
North West Georgia the red clay and Cher t is to sticky for the use of something like that although I wish I had ya'ls dirt
+Gus Robinson thanks for checking in.
I liked that Hoss until I saw the price for the complete kit over 500 was a bit steep for me.
Southwest right down in the point
+Tim Marvel cool, I grew up across the river, in southeastern Il.
نتمنى أن نحصل على هذا في بلدنا
North West Alabama red clay
2:15. 1 dad power
South Texas gumbo clay
Humac cast
Good lord..hehehe What is that noise in the back ground? It drowned you out Tim.. Anyway great video.
Yea, what are you supposed to do????
Not very easy for me to complain about the neighbors making noise. Afterall, Johnny isn't exactly quiet!
The neighbor was power-washing his deck.
Adar india
That thing doesn't work that good on soil that hasn't been pulverized by a rototiller.
Depends on soil type. We moved 15 miles from that home. It doesn’t work as well here. Heavier clay soil.
Love these earlier videos from Kartriel! She reminds me so much of my daughter who is lost to me, not earthly but spiritually. She choose a path of sin and refuses to acknowledge God. And i know what some of you are thinking, but yeah she loves devils and demons and all matters of modern brain washing.
Sorry to hear that Ronald. Keep praying!
OK , now get a Horse and pull it.
That's what kids are for, cheap manual labor. lol.
Не отвлекайте его, пусть работает. На примере всё понятно - вашу болтовню ни о чём не воспринимаю. Пусть худеет и показывает. Как ещё амера заставить работать.
My Hoss has fog lights, rear view mirror, and a winch. So there.
First guy doesn’t have a chance! :-)
