- In this weeks video, I will be sharing my experiences as a UCLA Anthropology Graduate! One of the biggest questions I get is what do you do with an anthropology major after college. I am so excited to answer all of your questions in what may be my longest youtube video yet. I will be talking about my job, how anthropology is related to my job, and so much more. Thank you for all the questions!!

Off the bat, I could not find any UCLA classes but here are some events: anthro.ucla.edu/events/
Who am I? My name is Alivia Brown and I am a recent UCLA Anthropology graduate on a mission to find a career that I love. My major does not have a straight forward "path" as many would say and I am not only determined to prove that I can be successful in my major but also demonstrate my ability to find a career that brings me joy. This is my journey to expanding my global and anthropological knowledge. This is my journey to finding the best career I can. This is my journey to finding happiness. This is my journey to success.

Did you know I wrote a course on human evolution? 🧬🦍🦧🐒🌱🌳
Check it out HERE: www.socratica.com/courses/human-evolution
I'm having an extremely important Ph.D. interview for Sociocultural Anthropology at a well-known University since I have a background in Architecture I was badly stressed. Reviewing your videos just brightened up my mind and I feel great! Good Job Girl, You Rock!
This just made my morning-so so so glad!!!
Hi, I really like your videos and have been binge-watching them. As someone who is an anthropology major in a CC and is currently transferring your videos have been incredibly helpful. I have been feeling some doubt as to whether I should still pursue anthropology with a focus on archeology but you help me remember why I love this field so much. I was hoping to transfer to UCLA since I'm from LA however I do not think I will get in because of how competitive it is. I will continue to watch your videos in my transfer journey and I aspire to one day be like you. Hope your new job goes well. ☺
I am so happy to hear that my videos have been able to remind you of why you love archaeology/anthropology. That is truly why I do this. Wishing you the best of luck!!
Seriously your videos are so useful and informative, lovin this content!
This is so sweet, I'm so glad!
Hi. I am an anthropology student in Vietnam❤️❤️❤️
Hi! That is so wonderful!
Hi! This video was soo helpful. I am a CC student in anthropology looking at transferring to UCLA and UCSD so I really appreciate you sharing your experience.
Thanks for answering my question!!
Of course! It was a great question!!
Hi Alivia, what would you say is the difference between UK and US anthropology undergraduate degrees?
Dam I love your energy and your love for what you do. New internet crush! 🥰 lol.
Incredibly interesting and informative channel. Greetings from the father of a student of Anthropology in Greece.
Thank you so much! And wow, best of luck to your son or daughter!
@@AliviaBrown she is a daughter. I sent her your channel and proposed her to search it. She studies in the unique in Greece university school of ''Ethnology'' as we call it here. I want her to esteem and love her studies.
Wow that is amazing!! Tell her to let me know if she needs anything :)
Thank you, Alivia.
Off topic but the reheating of the coffee is me af 😂
Right!? 😂
Hi! Alivia! Thanks for making these helpful videos. I'm currently thinking of switching from a physical science, biology (immunology), into a social science, specifically anthropology (cultural; took a course in undergrad and stuck with me) as its much more aligned with my personal goals and values. Another big reason of why I am looking to switch is that I don't love doing biological research, in a lab for 10+ hours a day... can you please tell me a little bit about the kind of research/field research you've done in your anthro undergrad, and/or what kind of projects you got to work on? This would help me so much, thank you :)
Hello! I would love to share! I actually worked on a lot of different biological anthropology research projects in college but my favorite one was using evolutionary theory to understand women's physical activity patterns. For a class, I made a research video on it that I'll link here: ua-cam.com/video/U5klVlBV3kA/v-deo.html. Much of my time was spent doing literature reviews, talking with participants, and working with other research assistants to prep materials, etc. I hope this helps and let me know if you have any more questions!
Also found this vlog I did which was a day in the life of an anthropology researcher! ua-cam.com/video/QPwagJCI7vA/v-deo.html
@@AliviaBrown thank you so much for all your help!
Of course!!
Hey there im working on my associate in arts at community college...i wanna work in research in anthro and have considered curating for museums but i just want to use my degree to learn history and preserve history and learn more. I dont know what im doing though and there's so many paths that its been hard for me to find my way in college and classes
This may seem quite odd to you (And to most of the people) - I am an undergraduate student of Civil Engineering and currently in 4th year. But with the time, I have got a huge interest in HISTORY & ANTHROPOLOGY. I want to do my masters and phd in anthropology - really want to know about me : who am I, why am I here, how my ancestors lived. Can I do masters in the USA and create my future? (Without having the undergrad degree in anthropology)
Hello! Im currently studying in high school and im trying to figure out the career that i should pursue in future. Since I have an interest in history, i think anthropology would be quite suitable for me but the main question Is that moving from india to other foreign country for a career in anthropology worth it?
Hi. I’m a senior in High School.. and am thinking of majoring in Anthropology or History. I’m unsure of where to go from here - do you have any suggestions?
Aw that's amazing! Do you prefer learning about people of the past or present? Usually this helps :) Anthro tends to be more presently focused while history is well, historic!
@@AliviaBrown Honestly, I'm unsure. I received a scholarship to do Genocidal Studies, which is really important to me.. but I am so unsure. I've done a lot of History classes in HS (obviously), but never anything with Anthro since it just isn't available where I live. I love people and the study of culture, but separating past and present in that regard is difficult since it is all super fascinating to me.
That totally makes sense-it sounds like you have some really amazing interests! Have you ever read an ethnography before? They are essentially the books anthropologists write after doing field work. I highly recommend "Tuhami" and "The Pastoral Clinic" if not (check trigger warnings). Maybe reading a little more about what anthropologists do and create would help? Lmk!
@@AliviaBrown I'll look into that! Thank you so much!
@@Nazinsky Of course!!
I waited approximately 1 - 2 months before I was hired as a field organizer for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. I took organic chemistry, but I definitely could have focused more on biology during my undergraduate if I had the resources. Environmental public health was interesting, but I could have balanced it.
Wow!
@@AliviaBrown Campaigns also recruit people with social science backgrounds.
And even though I didn’t complete my semester at UCLA, I think listing my semester at UCLA helped me!
@@AliviaBrown Which is why I’m saying it’s normal to wait for a job after graduation.
I am anthropology student..is there a career in anthropology in India?
That is wonderful! And I am actually not sure about in India. I have some videos on careers for anthropology majors-maybe start there and do some research on which of those jobs are available in India? I'll look into this too. Good luck!
@@AliviaBrown ok thank you mam..pls make a video on this
Where r u from and what u r doing currently?
What's anthropology
Amazing question! It is the study of people and human behavior! Should I make a video on this?
@@AliviaBrown I would love that
hello alivia plz you can also include lyrics in your videos please
Hi! By lyrics do you mean subtitles?
Hi alivia, i sent you connection on LinkedIn.
