BTW I thought scaling SQL in Azure takes was fast (usually 4 seconds) but no downtime. Now that's incredible

MindAtRest: No. Don't worry. Or did COBOL specialists loose their jobs? OK even if that example maybe skewed, the transition will be slow, and for the rest the nature of a dba job will change for good.

Jan Gelbrich I am from India, I have worked hard over the years learning Oracle technologies and working as a dba.... I like learning new stuff but hopefully change will be slow as job market is just awful here.... Thanks for your encouragement....

Keep up spirit, MaR. I know difficult markets myself pretty well - being dba is actually my second profession. And guess what: I started that just when the IT bubble of 2001 collapsed ... all I can say is, never rely on one perspective only. Keep Your eyes open and watch for opportunities. Those maybe there not anytime, but with some patience, You can find the best way for You.
