  • Hello everyone today I have made a video of me replacing a transmission fluid on my Peugeot 407 2.0 HDI 6 speed manual transmission. Transmission code is 20MB02 and I have used 2.6 litres of a 75W/80 fully synthetic manual transmission fluid. However please check the required amount for your vehicle as some 407 2.0 HDI gearboxes needs a 2.6 litres of transmission fluid and some needs only 1.9litres. This manual transmission fluid replacement should be done every 40 000 miles or every 12 Months for this transmission. I hope you will find this video use full and as always if there is any question, please comment bellow.

    Great video showing all the locations of a drain plug, filling up breather and the procedure to get the job done. Karens braging about amount of transmission fluid used forget that this video is your own expierence based and everyone should check theyr own cars transmission capacity as not all of the gearbox are same. I find this video really interasting. Its been a while since i have been around my 407 but watching your videos makes me wanna go and do some work.

      Thankyou mate. I have checked with Halfords, heynes manual and few sites and all showed that my car is 2.6l gearbox oil capacity. Also the old oil was more then 2litres. However i cant guarantee to anyone thats correct as loads of people think its actually 1.9l so i hope people check theyr cars gearbox capacity before they do the job. And thankyou for a nice comment i really apreaciate it. All i can say my car drives absolutelly fine, gears shift much better and economy is better then before after a job done.

      Sounds like your oil dirty.. as your trans has oil in torque converter and that oil has mixed with new I would advise at least two more oil changes at least or the most effective way is to take it to some one who has the appropriate vaccum pump which sucks the trans clean. And fresh oil done in one hit. BUT. WHO WERE THE STUPIDOES WHO PUT THE OIL FILTER IN THE BOWELS OF THE TRANSMISSION. !! SOME ONE ONCE SAID. ***. STUPID IS WHAT STUPID DOES !! *** TAKE CARE !!

    Quick points to note - If draining and refilling, then it is imperative to check whether your gearbox casing has "fins". This is the reinforced ML6C which is generally used after 2006 and takes 1.9 litres, not 2.6 litres. I don't expect the box to break with extra oil but it might consume more fuel.
    Also I find anything other than genuine Peugeot gearbox oil and in winter, when engine is cold, it is hard to get into gear and then have to really force it in and crunch gears. Genuine gearbox oil isn't expensive and it is Mobil Gear Oil FE 75w - this oil has a different additive package to make it meet PSA B71/2310 approval.
    I would replace every 100k, the oil doesn't go through the heat cycles the automatic gearboxes do. Automatic gearboxes should be changed every 60-70k.

      Also i know about this fins argument is been around for longer then i can remember. Car seem to be happy with it i dont see no increase in fuel consumption. I dont want it to starve on oil i rather have a bit extra if thats a case. Also i 100% agree with original oil. The old oil was really dirty on further inspection and more then 2liters has come out so someone else thought is 2.6litres too as otherwise it would be less then 2 litre of oil in it.

      @Mad4FrenchCars  Рік тому +1

      Thankyou mate. What engine does your car have. Also wich year. As different engines have different gearbox. Also gearbox changed on through the years. Some use to have a bolt near passenger side wheel where you can undo the bolt to check the level as if fluid starts to run out then its enough if not then need to top up. Bolt is different from other bolts and located right next to a wheel arch shield. Around a half high of the gearbox. Some gearbox don't have that bolt. You can try googling it some more clear pictures and diagrams comes up. I normally just Google how much oil should be in a gearbox then release old oil out, change a coper washer on gearbox oil release plug bolt. And then refill amount specified of a fresh gearbox oil for my car back to gearbox. Normally cost around 10£/L
