They are easy to grow and maintain. Plan for a good trellis because certain varieties can over crop and break lateral branches. Thanks for stopping by!
Thank you! Yes! Ponca and Sweetie Pie are the sweetest in our patch. Prime Ark Freedom are a little tricky to harvest at peak sweetness, so they are perfect for processing.
Are your cattle-panel trellises holding up to the wind with a full load of foliage? I’ have a three wire trellis using spring tensioners and 12.5ga high tensile wire that’s 100’ long, and when all 35 PAF plants are under full load, it puts a lot of strain in the top wire during a good blow. Your garden looks a bit more protected than mine. Love your videos, thank-you for taking the time to make these videos.
The trellis are holding well but my issue now is the side lateral growth that’s growing away from the trellis. I will have to reinforce some galvanized wire to keep them close to the trellis. Also the PAF second batch of fruit are much sweeter than the first, but not as sweet as Ponca or Sweetie pie. Yes, I have a small Oak forest and a metal barn protecting the blackberry area from too much winds.
I bought the Poncas at Ison’s Nursery online as bare roots. I bought 20 at $7.99 each, I think they were on sale. You just have to check them out all the time when they have them. I also got 10 Fuyu and Hana Fuyu persimmons from them all on sale at $16.99 each bare root.
@@TreehouseVineyard pretty sure these aren’t going to be sprawling anywhere but up. I’ve never seen a blackberry with trunks like this. We’ll see next summer.
I just finished tying all the lateral growth on all the blackberries. PAF is so vigorous that I’m afraid most laterals will break once the fruits matured and put a lot weight.
@@TreehouseVineyard I agree on Prime Ark Freedoms. I was referring to the Ponca video. My PAFs have a pretty healthy trunk but still need to be trellised. The Poncas are another story; huge (for a berry plant) tree like trunks at the base.
@@stickermigtigger I need to check the Ponca's this year. I remember their vigor is much lower than PAF so hopefully this year are thicker since the crowns are older.
What a nice blackberry garden❤❤❤ I'm still new to this plant

Nice work. Our Ponca blackberries are some of the sweetest berries we grow to date. I'm glad we planted a few to try.

We have 10 different varieties of thornless blackberries. Ponca and Sweetie Pie being the sweetest. Thanks for watching!
Looks so sweet! Full support to you, friend and keep sharing 💜🙏
Thank you so much!!

I put some of these in in Feb. 23. I don't think you need the trellis. These things have tree-like trunks. 😁 Mine have main trunks 1" or so across.
The trellis are needed to be able to access between the rows. If not they would sprawl to the ground once the start fruiting 10+lbs of fruits .

beauatiful berries. Do you prefer ponca to sweetie Pie?
A slight edge to Ponca but Sweetie Pie has very good flavor I think.
Which nursery do you guys buy sweetie pie? I'd love to add some to my garden
I’m jealous - nice job. Which zone are you located in?
North East Texas Zone 8b. Thanks for watching!
Do you use anything to shield them from the hot sun?
They get protection from the afternoon sun. But they like the heat as long as you water them.
