- Welcome to my walkthrough series of Pokemon Stadium 2! In this playthrough, I will cover the gameplay of all the Pokemon Stadium 2 Cups (including Pokemon Stadium 2 R2): Johto Gym Leader Castle, Kanto Gym Leader Castle, Poke Cup, Prime Cup, Challenge Cup, Little Cup, and the final showdown against The Rival: the final boss of this game! I really hope you enjoy this Pokemon Stadium 2 no commentary series.

After each of the Stadium Cups and the Gym Leader Castle have all been completed 100%, the Rival's lair will appear in White City, where he awaits the player's challenge. He wields Lugia, Ho-Oh, and Mewtwo, all level 100, and the player may use up to 6 Pokémon (their own or Prime Cup rentals) to try to defeat him.
If victorious, the player is treated to a parade roll of all 251 then-known Pokémon, followed by the credits, which feature photographs of the various Trainers of the combined Gym Leader Castles in battle. Defeating the Rival for the first time awards the player a Farfetch'd that knows Baton Pass, and opens up Round 2 of the game (see below). In the Round 2 Rival battle, he uses the same Pokémon, but substantially stronger. Victory in Round 2 awards a Gligar that knows Earthquake. _____________________________________________

Highly basic strategy
What would using it as a pawn do to improve any situation? The strategy he used was literally the only thing that made sense.
For those that don't know, the computer kinda "cheats" when you get to R2. The computer's Pokemon have perfect EV's, which make them really hard to defeat. I know this because I got fed up with not beating this game after 20 years, bought a GBC GameShark and made Pokemon with perfect EV's. Their stats were identical to the rivals Pokemon. Was it cheating? Yeah. Did I finally beat the game? Yeah. Was it worth the $25? Hell yes.

What's "EV's" ?
My Pokémon team
For rival 2 battle
1. Electrode start with thunder wave then maybe take 1 hit explode!
2. Zapdos thunderbolt or drill peck for mewtwo
3. Blissey toxic / protect soft boiled and seismic toss
4. Kingdra with leftovers Icebeam & surf
5. Tyranitar crunch/ rockslide
6.mewtwo psychic/ thunderbolt/ ice beam & recover
All you need to do is use a curse/rest set with something like Snorlax and bulldoze through his team.
It’s too bad Aerodactyl couldn’t learn a stronger rock-type move, otherwise you could’ve swept his whole time more easily. I wonder if it were able to learn Rock Slide (like Lance’s illegal Aerodactyl in G/S/C) would it be strong enough to two-shot Mewtwo after the Swords Dance boost. Because if that were the case, this match would’ve been much shorter haha.
Though I suppose you could’ve two-shotted Mewtwo anyway if you’d predicted the switch, and gone for Earthquake (a little stronger than Ancient Power), followed by Hyper Beam. Then you would’ve had to take two hits from Lugia, which you’d survive (recharge, Psychic, Ancient Power, Psychic, Ancient Power, Lugia dead), and Ho-Oh would’ve definitely been a one-hit KO.
Yeah Rock slide would have allowed me to end the battle and a much faster rate, but sadly it was illegal for Aerodactyl back then.

Finally unlocked it in R2 yesterday. Pikachu landed the final blow on Ho oh

It's satisfying to beat this guy, the most annoying rival in Pokemon History! He's worse than Blue and Barry!

It’s crazy that they make you face these Pokemon at their maxed out stats!

I honestly don't get why the Rival battles in Pokemon Stadium 2 is just...the same lineup. The Gold and Silver game doesn't even give him this, it's weird.
They needed to make him harder than Red. Only way of doing it is to give him uber pokémon.

Nah pretty much the same, do you know mewwtwo stats is max in all 6ivs right the same with lugia and ho-ho

hello I have a problem. I bought Pokémon Stadium 2 and I go to free battle or any other battles? why can't I find Mew , Mewtwo ,ho-oh and luguia?
you can only get them by using a transfer pak
you definitely cant use mewto, lugia, or ho-oh unless you have a transfer pak to move them from a gameboy game BUT if you use prime cup rules under free battle, there might be a mew or celebi that you can use to rent. if either are not there, definitely round 2 of prime cup will allow you to rent mew and celebi for battles.
