I'm a soft column, large busted, short waisted 5' 5" size 12/14 lady so this has been a fabulous video for me regarding dress shape. I favour straight/slim trousers and drapey tops, sometimes with a hip belt or half tucking because I just didn't know what type of dress to look out for. Your visuals and explanation have really helped - thank you.
As a large busted-woman, I like the trick of wearing a long overshirt, cardigan, vest, etc. open. It visually “cuts” the extra width of my bust. Long scarves and necklaces are great, too, and anything else that gives that long V-shape.
I love the tailoring of a blazer, but mostly buy knit ones. They are so much more comfortable, but still give the illusion of a nipped-in waist, and often, are washable, too.
UA-cam hasn’t been offering me your videos, dear Maria, I thought you had gone offline. I searched for you and found your recent videos, and clicked the notification bell, I hope that helps.
I’m a nearly waist-less rectangle and I find wearing a belt that matches, rather than contrasts with, my dress or outfit is more flattering. It doesn’t call extra attention to my straight shape.
Great video. Love the visual aids, with the different body shapes and the showing the difference between tucking a top in or leaving it out. I love the way you explain how to make the best of what we have.
Thanks again Maria for another great informative vid......I love the idea of the shirt dress as a jacket ....that’s given me some great inspirational ideas...it’s so difficult to feel modern & comfortable with a very large bust ...and no waist. Your an absolute ⭐️❤️
Thank you for yet another really useful and interesting video. I feel so much more confident choosing what to wear since I have been watching your videos. My shape is very similar to yours and I think your style is really lovely and your tips are easy to follow and make a huge difference.
Great tips. My vertical proportion is balanced, but I still feel stumpy-legged in tunics or untucked longer tops. I banished these from my wardrobe. I also like adding as much heel height as I can and still be comfortable, usually 2-2.5”. I’m super-sensitive about having lost 1.5” in height since my young adulthood. 5’6” was ok, 5’4.5”, not so much.
Great video, maria, thank you. I'm short and fairly long waisted. I tend to wear a column of colour to make my legs look longer and to make me look taller. Loved all your tips and suggestions for hiding tummies!
Great video Maria. I have a balanced body, with a long rise/high waist. And am a classic 8 shape hourglass. I've learnt what suits me and what doesn't (I don't tuck into high waisted trousers - it looks bizarre 😂)
Brilliant video! Love the use of visual aids. If you are an older short legged lady, what type of bottoms would you wear in the summer? My mom is a short extreme pear. Not sure if she should do cropped pants or a skirt of some sort, and if so, what length?
Thank you 😊 ideally for a pair she would find a straight leg trousers that drops from the hip or an a-line skirt her best option. She could do a crop but end it on a narrow part of the leg and add a heel in a skin tone colour 😀
Thanks for a very informative video! Liked it a lot. Today I looked at dresses on my computer. There are so many cute ones, but I was sad because I feel like I can not wear a dress because of my big belly. It feels like most of my overweight has settled in that area, and I look pregnant in a dress. At least I think so myself. It does not look nice. I am a size 18-20. Is there a type of dress that you can recommend? I'm about 5 feet 3 inches tall. Will be happy if you address this in the next video about body shapes. Have a lovely day! Anne, Sweden
Look for a tunic shape in a soft fabric that fits in the bust and skims over the tummy area. As you are in Sweden try Masai who are Danish so you may be able to buy there 😀
@@Mariafsadler Thank you so much for the answer! I´ll check this out. I Like Masai. Have some cardigans and knitwear from this brand. They have many nice pieces. The sun is shining here in Sweden and it is 14 degrees Celsius, so spring is here. Hope the weather is great for you too. Have a lovely sunday!
Hello Maria! I recently found your channel and have been binge watching you!!! You give wonderful information that is very useful. I have a problem, however, you may not be able to solve. I live in the US, Florida specifically, and about 9 months out of the year it is very hot and humid. I am 72 and have to cover my upper arms and stomach. Scarves, cardigans, etc. are out of the question. My life is very casual, even going out to dinner and lunches with friends. My coloring is fair/med, eyes are hazel (teal with gold flecks), and hair is light brown. ANY suggestions would be appreciated and I love your videos.
Thank you, lots of useful tips. In a future video on body shape, can you advise on my difficult shape. I have an hourglass figure, only slightly overweight but I tend to look huge and matronly. My waist is short although well defined, I have a long rise and short, stocky legs. I cannot find any redeeming features in my figure.
Look for pieces that really fit well and show off your waist and curves rather than anything voluminous which will make you look bigger. Wrap style dresses and tops are really flattering on an hourglass figure. End dresses or skirts on the narrowest part of your leg, this gives the illusion that everything above that point is the same size. I hope some of that helps 😀
I have balanced body proportions but at five feet zilch, unfortunately I am short waisted too. I have short legs. Basically I’m just short everywhere. Its extremely difficult (impossible) to buy dresses with a fitted waistline as the waistline is much too low for me. The other thing is that I need to wear narrow belts but most outfits look better without a belt.
Keeping a single line of colour will help to elongate. Also wearing a long scarf or necklace to lengthen the body and add a heel even if it’s a small one or a wedge if that’s more comfortable 😀
Great video. Even though I have the opposite problem which is also a challenge. I have narrow shoulders, very small bust, middle age belly and heavy legs. Not even sure what shape that is?!! Lol. Suggestions?
Hi, really love your channel, shame that I I have only just found it recently. I used to be a rectangular with a large bust, but will be 70 in 2 weeks time, and now have an apple shape. Similar to yourself, but with more weight round the middle. I am just under 5.6 inches, I don't like my arms , too flabby, so some of the tops you show are too short on the sleeves. Any ideas to help for sumner clothes, It's hoy and humid where I live. Thank you.
Hi Ann, thank you 😊 A lightweight top in cotton voile, silk or viscose with a floaty sleeve that isn’t fitted would be your best option. Anything that’s fitted will be too warm.
This is much better than the two-hands below the bust test. My hands (and feet) are very undersized for my height, it just doesn’t work.

Because of lockdown, brands are offering more elastic-waist options, this is extremely welcome to me. We can look chic, but be comfortable, too.

Oh gosh I know! The bust was always an issue for me and then I lost my waist 😂😂

Maria, great video. I was wondering what are the dimensions of the scarfs you are using ? They look great on you.
Thank you 😊 most of my scarves are around 90x180 cms
Great vedio 👍

Hello and welcome 😀 I will bear your question in mind as I will be doing a video on dressing for the heat.

It sounds like you could be a pear if you have a defined waist or apple if you don’t 😀
Great video madam 👌👍
Thanks a lot
Good video l though not sure where I fit in as I am short with a stomach bigger than my bust.
Thank you. Follow the tips for an apple shape 😀

Sorry, should say hot and humid. Also still feel young for my age, even though I have the wrinkles!!
