Naman Parwani I’ve had one for close to a month now and I love it. I only bought it for college so I’m not worried about the performance. Very solid and super smooth computer. I really love how quickly it starts up. Usually computers take a bit to kinda “warm up” before they start performing well. Amazing battery life too.
Naman Parwani perfect, I don’t do any profesional video editing, Work with office most of the time (Excel, word) Have been using zoom almost 2 or 3 meeting a day (45mins average time). For my hobby I fly a Mavic 2 pro, algo have a canon 6dmarkii so I use Lightroom and Photoshop on my MacBook, I did a 30 picture editing yesterday with no problem. Sometime I download videos from my gopro8 do a quick editing. So for me it’s been a great experience I got the i5, 8gb ram and 512GB on Amazon for US$1,390.00. I also got my wife a entry level air and she has been using photoshop and Illustrator with no problem. Air is i3, 8gb ram and 256GB storage for US$899
Taylor Finelli how are things with it heating up? That’s the only thing holding me back from getting one and well the new ones coming later this year so 😭
Jenn Vo what I meant is that almost every youtuber gets the expensive model which isn’t the one most people will get, so I love to see someone who reviews the one most people will get
I really appreciate that you just flat out said what you think. This is definitely the most helpful macbook video I’ve seen. I’m going to wait until the next one comes out now! Thanks!
I am so happy that I watched this before hitting "buy now"! My screen has a nearly undetectable crack that has made it difficult to negotiate my home screen. I have an I pad that will get me thru till the end of the year when the new processor comes out. Thank you so much for a no nonsense video that makes it easy to understand for the non gaming / basic needs consumer.
Toni Chandler purchasing a first gen ARM MacBook might yield more headache than you think. Apples track record with first gen new stuff isn’t good. Just a fair warning. Buying a true and tested intel MacBook now, is a very safe choice.
@@Mango_Puffin But there is nothing first gen about it really. Apple have made chips before. Doesn't matter whether they run MacOS or iOS, native stuff should be doing just fine.
I love the idea of Apple silicon, but I live on Bootcamp and I can’t see how the Windows side will continue to be a functional experience. I’m upgrading to the maxed out 16 now so I can wait out the mess.
Addition: I am using it (the high end model with i7 processor) since 2 weeks now. I agree in most of the aspects, except it gets significantly warm to keep it on lap while average usage. It shoots to 55-60 degrees C while using chrome (with bunch of tabs) and connected to external monitor. But heavy usage surely hits 100 degrees.
I went for the base model 16 in while it is heavier than I thought to lug around I can get everything I need done on it. Now if only macs had better cooling.
Interesting point about the apple chips, I was ready to replace my surface 2017 that is absolutely crapping out. But I def would not mind waiting a few more months if something better is around the corner.
When it comes to technology, there is ALWAYS something better around the corner. If you are always waiting for the “next big thing”, you’ll never buy anything.
Personally, I am also interested in what the new chips will do, but I would definitely rather wait until they have put out a few generations of them before I jump on the bandwagon. I would like Apple to see how they perform in the real world for a while first, and give them an opportunity to work out any bugs and make improvements before I buy one. The 2020 is a solid machine that meets all my needs for now.
I was JUST about to buy one because I’ve had my 2013 15” MacBook Pro and it was tome to upgrade but if you’re telling me they’re going to upgrade at the end of the year I will wait. My patience will have to endure lol. So glad I took the chance to watch ur video 👌🏻
I'm in no need to upgrade from my 2018 15" MBP, but I'm glad I didn't wait longer to buy it because I'm gonna be itching to upgrade to a 16" Apple silicon-based MBP if and when that's released!
Agree. I’m on a 2017 MBP 15” which is a great computer but I’m not wanting to upgrade until I see the future of Apple come to fruition. Would have to spend that money on a new machine just to have it replaced with a entirely new architecture...
Wira Setiawan I’ve not had any thermal issues. The laptop is a little warm after startup but that doesn’t stay long. I also use a stand to help with cooling/circulation. I’m very please with this MacBook Pro.
id recommend the macbook, even though i much prefer the xps' design over the mbp 13, the build quality on the xps has major flaws, kinda like the old butterfly keyboard. so if build quality is important, such as wanting a laptop to own for like 5-7 years, then the macbook pro is a far better investment.
You have saved me from buying one of the new Macbooks so I can now wait until Apple Silicon macs are out. Thank you, sir. I will hang on with my 2015 MacBook for now.
Do you think the base model is good for college (aka will it last me at least 4 years). I will be using alot of zoom (about 5 hours a day) this semester so I'm not sure if the base model could handle that.
My suggestion , don't go for the first gen ARM MacBooks. Intel to ARM transition will take atleast couple of years for Apple to make it seamless, That will make your Intel MacBook purchase well worth it.
Purchased a refurbished July 2019 with 256gb 13” MacBook Pro for $1049, actually like the butterfly keyboard (tested it multiple time over the year in the Apple store lol) so it made a lot of since and saved $250! It is replacing my 2011 13” MacBook Pro. So excited for it to arrive.
I love your reviews! Keep making videos! PLEASE!! YOU WILL MAKE IT! Quality is so well done. It is no question in my mind you will soon be a million sub creator that is peers with unbox therapy, UravgConsumer and mkbhd. Don't give up and know that if you keep this quality of content the followers and viewers will continue to come!
I bought the MacBook Pro 2020 13th inch this summer before starting University and it’s been great so far! Had to get a laptop cooler as the aluminum body heats up really fast but once I got that I have no problems at all. I got the 1 TB storage, 16 GB RAM and 3.8GHz and it runs all office suite apps, internet surfing and even the Sims 4 very well! I wanted to max it out just for ease but once I turn on the Sims 4 or use Zoom for too long the laptop cooler is definitely needed.
I have been using this laptop for 2 weeks now. Just as you open the lid, the MBP does not respond i.e. the trackpad and the keyboard doesn't work for about 20-30 seconds. I have installed the latest Mac OS Catalina 10.15.6, reinstalled the software, logged in as a new user, done with the safe boot, reset NVRAM and SMC also. Nothing seems to work. I have contacted apple also regarding the same, they have told me to get the device to the nearest service centre. I am really annoyed now, because I spent a lot of money in this laptop. I have a 6 year old MBA, that laptop has never had any problem so far even with the latest MacOS.
Thank you so much for this! I'm a college student who is looking to upgrade from a Windows computer - my current laptop is fine, but lacks the performance that I'm craving. This is just what I am looking for - looks like I'll be upgrading to the new silicon-Macs once they come out!
Glad I watched this. I was thinking about getting a base MacBook Pro today actually. I’ve had my current MacBook for 12 years (the original aluminum MacBook before they renamed it the “MacBook Pro”). I figured after more than a decade it was time for an update lol. But I can definitely wait a few more months for a faster machine. Just hope the base machine stays below $1,400. I’m not willing to spend much more for a base machine.
I just bought my first, base model MB13 wth 8gb 512gb ever this month. I had to buy it so I can take an online class to learn Mac OS and create simple apps for iOS. I'm surprised by the new experience and enjoy showing if off to family members as everyone wanted an iThing. I'm glad to get a mature intel-based product and I bet that it will not be my last Mac device. For work, the Windows laptop is still my go-to workhorse device.
recently just bought this model after hunkering down with an early 2015 macbook pro ~5 1/2 years. i love that i bought a new macbook after apple threw out the butterfly keyboard !!
I bought my first MacBook Pro in 2012, and still using it today 😅. I’m looking to upgrade my dinosaur and was going to do in during the Black Friday sales. Now I think I will wait. I want something that’s going to perform nicely in the long run.
The 4 port model speakers are incredible, way better bass & just a much fuller sound than the 2 port model. I bought the 2020 4 port model and absolutely have no regrets. It IS a powerhouse with those 10th gen chips and coupled with my 2018 iPad Pro using Sidecar, it’s such a great, powerful, & compact work station for me. The fact that Apple will support it for years after the ARM transition is complete means I feel good about this purchase. And I put this computer through some pretty heavy work flows but it doesn’t get that hot and the fans are actually pretty quiet. Since there’s 2 fans, they don’t have to work quite as hard as the single fan setup the base MBP & MBA have. If you have the money & need the best performance in a compact design, I’d recommend the 10th gen 4 port MBP 13” over the baseline 2 port MBP any day.
I bit the apple bug and bought the intel MacBook pro 13 2020 and I didn't regret it even though I knew something big is coming up. It's an ex-display and bought it for just $500. A bargain!.
Still using my 2013 MacBook Pro. Was going to upgrade this year, but I need to be smart with money -- can't be getting a new one right now. Hopefully soon.
I just ordered one with a 16GB RAM upgrade because my personal laptop conked out a couple years ago and I’ve just been getting by with shit Lenovos provided by my work. I sliiightly wish I waited a bit to see the new chips but at the same time I know owning a brand new MBP for minor music production and general use would be BIG upgrade than anything I used to own anyway, so no regrets.
Great video as usual, brother!! Love your setup and I hope you are doing well. It would be great if you do include some benchmark comparison with the previous gen MacBook and current windows alternative. Great work. Stay safe
Have you (or anyone watching this that got this mac) noticing that it gets hot really quickly? i've reached out to apple and they just keep having me do different resets. getting up to 190-200 degrees and fans super hard. (when streaming netflix or using sketchpads)
Yes! I was trying to decide as to whether or not I should purchase this laptop and now my favorite youtuber has a review out on it 👌 looking forward to this one Mark. Edit: Excellent video man, inspired me to purchase the 10th gen 13" MBP despite the announcements at WWDC. Also, nice shots at 0:48 and 1:13 😍 how do you even get those?
I was very tempted to order this laptop until I watched your review. I’m definitely gonna wait till the new technology comes out hopefully at the end of the year
In the market for a newer mac and completely forgot about the Apple Silicon Machines thing. Thanks for your review! Gonna wait a bit long just like you said.
I purchased the base model 13" MacBook Pro last week as my Surface Pro 6 broke down on me. This was before WWDC, however, now I'm not sure if I should wait for Apple Silicon or not.
The butterfly keyboards were such a question mark for me back in 2017 that I bought a late-2015 model instead of the newest 2016 models lol guess it was a good decision
I bought the 13inch 16 gig 1TB now. Had to buy for school. Comes today. Pretty sure i wont regret it. In a post Steve Jobs apple era, Every time they release something really new there’s tons of problems. Not worth the wait for me. Also it was on sale on amazon for 1700 bucks..... currently using an iPad Pro 12.9. Haven’t had a laptop in years. Regret buying the 12.9. The glass screen keeps breaking and i never even notice when it actually breaks. Ill be using it and just notice a crack. This is the second time its cracked. I never drop it. It stays on my desk and stays in my back back to and from school. Only thing i can think of is that the iPad Pro is just so big and thin that the glass screen cracks from holding it by the corner with one hand, or it flexes inside my backpack with other things in it? Idk. I will not be buyin another iPad. On the other hand, i had an MacBook Pro back in high school and the thing was a tank, it was the one before the unibody design.
I got mine just last day; however, the bottom heats up and just a while ago the side of the trackpad heats up. Is it really normal? I got the pro 10th gen one.
An iPad might be worth looking into. The base model can be bought for like $279 at Best Buy. That is, assuming your school work can be done on one and you live in the U.S. I don’t know how much they cost outside the U.S. but You can do pretty much anything on an iPad that you can on a laptop, unless you’re studying something like programming or using an application that doesn’t have an iPad equivalent.
As a “pro” user, I am skeptical of Apples ability (or commitment) to transition to their ARM processors without compatibility hiccups. I’m thinking of the FCPX debacle, as well as recent issues with Catalina’s launch. I’m excited to see what Apple computers will look like in 3-5 years, but given their very spotty last decade with computer hardware and their obvious prioritization of mobile devices, I will not be an early adopter of Apple Silicon. Nor will I be buying any final-gen Apple Intel products, as I don’t have much faith in their commitment to future compatibility once all new Apple computers are intel-free.
I want one but the fact that I can use the best excel, it doesn’t even have access, and the fact that I’m so use to windows is the main reason I haven’t gotten one yet.
I like the design of the Mac books but I just can't justify spending that kind of money on a computer that can only do light tasks or else it'll thermal throttle. I have a 2012 MacBook that also gets too hot, might try liquid metal
I purchased the 10th gen MacBook Pro 13 on June 1st. It doesn’t thermal throttle, it’s very good actually. I’ve tried coding, 10bit 4k video editing, and regular use tasks and it’s never had to thermal throttle. It has 2 fans vs the 1 in the 8th gen. So if thermal performance is critical for you I’d confidently recommend the 10th gen 13 in MBP
Hey man, do you think that the base new Macbooks with ARM will still have the 1299 price or will they increase by a lot? Cause my 2015 model is coming to its end and I wanna know if I should wait
Just got the base model yesterday, 1st macbook.

Great work. Stay safe
720P built in webcam is a no go, hopefully they fix this in the Silicon models for the newer 13-14"
I have a MacBook air 2018, so would you recommend I upgrade to this or wait for arm macs?
I would definitely wait to see what Apple Silicon can do in the Macbooks at the end of this year.
@@MarkSpurrell Thank you Mark. I'll wait to see what apple comes out with. Great videos btw :)
Have you (or anyone watching this that got this mac) noticing that it gets hot really quickly? i've reached out to apple and they just keep having me do different resets. getting up to 190-200 degrees and fans super hard. (when streaming netflix or using sketchpads)
had to buy one since i’m starting school on august but wow i am really hoping to buy the future macbooks soon
I have been really struggling to decide what kind of laptop to buy Windows, Macbook Pro/Air. Sadly, I can't wait due to study within 1.5 month.
I just bought mine and i cannot wait to receive it in the mail
What Windows alternative will you recommend?
How long until MacBook uses their new tech in the MacBook pros? 2021?
I purchased the base model 13" MacBook Pro last week as my Surface Pro 6 broke down on me. This was before WWDC, however, now I'm not sure if I should wait for Apple Silicon or not.
Like I said, if you need it now, don't feel bad. It's still a decent laptop for most light/medium tasks.
so if we wait.. will be out before august or just around thinking's giving through the end of the year?
thanksgiving *
Where I find that lamp attached to the monitor?
Would you use the Macbook Air for a month and then compare it to this? Pleasseee...
Is anyone else reminded of The Room series by that awesome retro spotlight?
Nice video! Your broll game is strong!
Thanks Gary!
Awesome review my man. Also, what light is that on top of your monitor?
The BenQ screenbar! I talk about it in my desktop setup video.
@@MarkSpurrell Awesome! Thanks for the reply
Thinking of getting a MacBook Pro 2020, have you all had pretty good experiences with it? Does it over heat? Is it loud?
The butterfly keyboards were such a question mark for me back in 2017 that I bought a late-2015 model instead of the newest 2016 models lol
guess it was a good decision
Whats that video at 3:29?
When I saw Gundam IBO, I knew this man is a man of culture
When you badly need a new laptop this quarantine for online classes but cant afford to buy one ☹️ why am I here
i needed it for the same reasons- plus to work from home and my sons school too. only was able to afford it from a settlement from my old job.
If your university has a Cares Act grant application you should probably submit one. They’ll give you money for a laptop.
You can always install windows on it
MALNOURISHED PANDA why would I do that when I can just get a windows machine?
Is it good for programming and web development?
SUPERB VIDEO PRODUCTION ! 🔥🔥🔥
Who waited a year to just buy the MacBook Pro 😩
Thank you for a brief but full of information. How do you prevent the discoloration of the palm area.
I want to buy the MacBook pro but I don't know if should what do you think
Is this a good option to go if I’m using for mostly college work, movies, UA-cam, web browsing, etc.?
Just watch the video.
Hey man, do you think that the base new Macbooks with ARM will still have the 1299 price or will they increase by a lot? Cause my 2015 model is coming to its end and I wanna know if I should wait
