CASE BACKGROUND: Sex Crimes Charges: In addition to the murder charge, Sterns faces 60 charges related to sex crimes against Madeline. These charges range from possession of child sex abuse material to sexual battery of a child under 12. Madeline Soto vanished on February 26, 2024. Surveillance footage captured Sterns disposing of items in a dumpster near their apartment complex. Among the discarded belongings were Madeline’s backpack and school laptop. Authorities believe Madeline was already deceased at that time. Her lifeless body was later discovered in the woods off Old Hickory Tree Road in Osceola County. Sterns now faces that include sexual battery of a child, lewd and lascivious molestation, and possession of child sexual abuse material. The severity of these charges could lead to life imprisonment or even the death penalty. Pre-trial will be in July, 10th 2024, with a trial date scheduled for August 19th. 2024. Murder Charges: Stephan Sterns, the boyfriend of Madeline’s mother, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Madeline Soto’s death. An Osceola County grand jury returned the indictment against him.

As a victim myself, I'm pretty sure she didn't stand up to him. 13 is still very young. These guys terrify you, they threaten you, they're far bigger and stronger than you , what is a 13yo girl going to say to this guy that isn't going to get her hurt more?
Everyone keeps saying she must've finally stood up to him, as if that's the goal, that's the bar. That really bothers me. It places the responsibility of stopping the abuse on the child! It at least glorifies it as the thing a child should aspire to do. Little girls can't stand up to a big man.
I can tell from Maddie's eyes that she's afraid. She's not able to stand up to him. She might would've run away if she had somewhere to run to, but there's not much else you can do, when you're 13 and you're getting r@ped by a man your mom has given power and authority to, or not stopped him from taking power and authority.

Thanks for answering. I was a child victim, too. I answered above. You know how if people see you cry as a kid they tell you that life is harder when you grow up. So one day, I thought Oh, this was the thing that people had to go through that made growing up worse than childhood. I didn’t know it was supposed to be stopped.

I agree the onus is often put on the victim to have done something to cause the effect--- I think people often have a hard time comprehending the chaos of sadistic and evil people- and I just wanna say that I get what you're saying...and while I think this is a coping mechanism for some, and a genuine "What if..." for others...for people who were victimized and vulnerable and scared, it can feel like such an unreasonable thing to consider. It feels like saying the victim "Triggered" a response or an attack, when in reality, Stephan was likely just an awful, terrible, piece of dog$h*t who hurt a child, and nothing she did or could have done should have led to this. I feel that. I think you're right too. It's just something that people are going to speculate on also because of the circumstance, but I'm glad to see you say this- as it's a perspective that's probably hard af to talk about, so thank you for sharing, and it sheds a lot of light on the "Fight or Flight" feeling from a victim perspective that I think not everyone may consider or have heard before. I hope you're doing okay now and living your best life ever.

Maddie could have had a relatively normal life with the proper psychiatric help... That's something that gets lost in the madness of cases like this-- kids who go through this kind of thing can be helped... I can't imagine Maddie would ever reconcile with her mom but she could've found peace eventually...

I don't mean to sound cruel, but you don't let your "boyfriend " sleep with your daughter if you are having an anxiety attack. Stephan will definitely be punished, but Jennifer has to be punished as well. This whole thing is sad and nauseating. There needs to be justice for Maddie and Domestic Violence.

I agree. Anybody with half a brain knows better than to leave a boyfriend with their kids, let alone sleeping in the SAME ROOM TOGETHER?! Her mother is a MONSTER! I am single w two kids under 12 and I stay single because of them. You cannot trust anyone. I remember when I was young I was scared to death to sleep alone. I’d always go wake my dad, still a daddy’s girl, and when I was in 4th grade he said “You have to start sleeping alone. I sleep in mom and I’s room and we’re right down the hall but you’re in 4th grade now and you need to sleep in your own bed. If there’s a storm or you have a nightmare you can put your pillow and blanket on our floor but I can’t sleep in your room”. I didn’t understand he was my dad and would never do anything to me but he was right. I was 10 and needed to grow up and having an adult male dad or not in my bed wasn’t appropriate. I love my dad dearly and he was 100% correct. How this mother could allow this is beyond me. Sick sick woman.

@@naomimcewan9744I remember seeing this with other people in another interrogation done outside of the interrogation room. It was quite awhile ago and my senior memory isn't that good. But the interviewer must have swallowed his distaste and made himself an impartial listener. Still, the method worked very well. If I can find it, I will post it on a true crime playlist.
Depending on how you feel about him, there is a pedophile hunter who does this well. He is not a policeman, but Alex does get into the "good" side of these guys, and it makes them want to talk about what they have done. This poor excuse of a mother needs to be held legally responsible for bringing this monster into her daughter's life. Laws need to change so that in these extreme cases, the mother (or father) automatically gets the same charges as the monster she brought into her daughter's life. It's your job as a parent to keep your children safe, and if you don't know you brought a monster into their life, you're not paying enough attention.

    • @LionellWaters
      @LionellWaters 8 днів тому

@@beanj580 you had to work and many others mothers have to work but Jennifer Soto was on disability and she was disallowed to work a 40 hour week in the account that her income would jeopardize her disability income. So she could have taken off work. Being on disability afforded her an opportunity or privilege to be flexible and to choose her workday she didn’t have to come into work if she didn’t want to. Jennifer Soto , was for all intense and purposes, pimping Madeline out to Stefan Stearns, so as to keep him around. Jennifer is as sick of a puppy as Sterns. She fed her daughter to that demon because she didn’t have what it takes to keep him in her life so she needed an additional incentive to compensate for her codependency complex, so that she say that she had a man. Her codependency complex was such that she would sacrifice her own daughter on the altar of a sexual deviant.

I'm always surprised by the vitriol against this sheriff deputy who had to transport Sterns. He didn't do anything wrong! He was by himself in a vehicle with a dangerous guy. I think he followed the best safety strategy he had - disarm Sterns with some kindness and distract him with conversation. His job was to get Sterns from point A to point B, then go about his work day, and come home safely to his family that night. If you want to be angry with someone, be angry with the sheriff's department for putting him in such an unsafe situation. I have nothing but respect for this deputy. He decided not to sit in judgment; instead, he treated a prisoner with human decency. I'm confident the courts will give Sterns his appropriate punishment.

People are idiots and don't understand how police operate and procedure.
They think you're supposed to scream at and berate every person you pick up.
I'm also astounded at how many people rag on defense attorney for doing their job?? Acting like defending a person makes you complicit and agree with the crime. Or that your views align. It's ridiculous. Like the Chad Daybell case people hate John Pryor for doing his job. He doesn't even want to be there and tried to get off the case. Not saying he's a saint, but he's doing the job he was made to do.
If people understood what a society is like without due process they would change their tune. Someone can be prosecuted or defended with equal passion by any attorney.

Absolutely disgusting. Poor Madeline! Jennifer Soto needs to go to jail. How could a mother not know this was going on?

Hi ! I very much enjoyed this discussion, I am a member in your Patreon for a while now, having trouble getting to the link to subscribe/join your UA-cam channel.
I would love to see a series on this, such an important topic! Thank you so much to both of you. This was so informative and I appreciate you both!

I had no idea what it was .. this is sickening I’m so happy you guys having people like oblivious Benson on your channel definitely helps in these monsters being held accountable they can’t hide anymore .. reminds me of the Nazi Hunters they don’t stop until they expose these monsters.

Hi from an American living in Spain. Great host and guest! I think Pedos should be put in General Population in Prison. They should suffer the consequences.

Wow, just found your channel. Reminds me of the quality true crime shows I used to love in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's. I love the straight content and production! Also great narration @
