Dave the cross ties down the embankment mast likely was from a time when new. They were unloaded by hand from either a stock car or a gondola that slid down the embankment and never retrieved for placement.

Could very well be the case. They looked so new and I've seen worse ones on active lines!

Is this still part of the land and RoW owned by the forestry management company?
Have to say (again, broken record) this would make a great bike trail.

Yes. Wagner owns the entire RoW all the way from where it branched off from the Kashabowie Sub to where it meets the Allanwater Sub, almost 160 miles.
You will see me biking more of this line, but eventually it becomes very difficult. Past Raith, there are only a handful of access roads that cross the grade, making it hard to get on the railway. My usual bike trips are 4-5 miles in length; past Raith the sections become around 20 miles or sometimes more. I'm likely going to have to do those areas by ATV.

Wow that's a lot of acreage and generally it seems they aren't logging huge sections.

That company doesn't log as they are a stewardship company, but they allow companies to do so.

Lots of controversy about the lands around this rail line. When it was built, the Ontario government gave the GTP huge lands grants around the right of way. Over the years the land blocks passed from one company to the next. When this line was abandoned in 1994, it was taken over by Buchanan Forest Products. You'll often see the grade listed on maps as "BFP Private Road." Circa 2018, the RoW and the land blocks were for sale and the Ontario government had a chance to buy it back, which they did not do. Many people around here are angry that all this land was allowed to fall to a US company. Now thankfully they allow access via a permit system, but many feel that it should have returned to crown land.
