That's what I found humorous about the whole thing, I couldn't get very upset at not being able to afford it, when the actual cost of the rifle was such an absurdly specific number.
Well the scope itself has a different serial. The mount though was matched to the rifle. I don't know why so many are mismatched, but seriously if you took 100 snipers, probably 95+ wouldn't have matching scopes, its weird. Was the one you saw at the gunshow a Type 99 or Type 97? Did it have the 2.5x, 4.0x fixed, or 4.0x adjustable optic?
Depending on the variant, that price actually might not have been out of line. I had 4 or 5 of these last year, and 3 sold for more than $5k at auction.
I belive the optic was a 4x but could not really check since they didn't seem to friendly to the idea of someone handling it. it was a Type 99 if I recall, dident look to late war though as the milling and finishing was still quite nice. I mean heck if I had 5k in my pocket I would definitely have considered it, from what I understand most are mismatched because of how bring backs had to be disassembled on the trip home, but who knows that could be a wives tale. Alas, having just turned 20 I must say my budget does not yet allow for those types of purchases, hoping to fix that soon though as it seems as if military rifle collecting is highly addicting.
Unfortunately, both of these were store guns and both found new homes last year. But I did get to play with them for a few weeks, so that was fun. Also, if you watch Military Arms Channel, you might niotice something hehe.

Sweet. This'll be my first in depth video on the 'sniper' rifles. And ya, don't drop it! The last guy to do that probably died...
The one with the 4x adjustable scope ended up selling for $7,600 on Gunbroker....so yeah, good one not to drop hehe.
