Freestyle had a big Latin influence. Together Forever - Lisette Melendez, Fantasy Girl - Johnny O, Diamond Girl - Stevie B , Within My Heart- The Voyce, Show Me - The Cover Girls
    Feeling nostalgic for the 90s
    So many great songs

YES!!!! 🗽 This is FREESTYLE!! SO glad you have finally reached this genre! At the height of my Brooklyn/Manhattan clubbing days. 🪩 Met my husband on the dance floor and we are married 32 years now and STILL dance; going to a Freestyle reunion concert in January. Freestyle is still alive in NY and NJ. More Freestyle: NO REASON TO CRY by Judy Torres, “SPRING LOVE” by Stevie B ❤❤❤

1991 Lil Suzy was only 12 years old. I’m from North Jersey was 16 at the time, this is all you heard coming from cars mainly 5.0 Mustangs cruising up and down Ridge Rd North Arlington Bloomfield Ave in Newark Bergenline Ave in North Bergen. Miss those days don’t see that at all anymore. From about 1987 to around 1992 Freestyle Dance music ruled. If your ever interested in checking out what music was like around here on a Friday night check out Jeff Romanowski Hot 97 Friday night hot mix, he did the mix from 89-93

Not late '80s, but close. This song and video was early 90s.
Latin freestyle music was very popular during the '80s and '90s. Similar to R&B, at least the singing style, but freestyle music is more upbeat, Latin music influenced, breakdance music/Latin hip hop style beats, Afro-Latino/Caribbean style (drums, horns, pianos/keyboards, some guitars, etc) beats, sometimes they sing in Spanish/bilungual as well. some synthesizers, , etc. True that Freestyle music in lyrical content is similar to R&B, very romantic type songs. lol Hispanics and Italians are usually very passionate, romantic folks, so it kind of makes sense. Think of it as the Latino version of new wave/synth pop and EDM, house music. You are right, Freestyle Music was at its peak during the '80s and '90s. Great dance music. Big on the radio, music videos (MTV, BET, night clubs, etc).
Most of these bands are Latinos (Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Dominicans, Mexicans), Italians, Filipinos, etc. Started off on the east coast like NYC/NJ, Miami (FL), Philadelphia (PA), Puerto Rico, etc and then spreaded out to other regions around the country and world. Typically large cities with big presence of Latino, Black, Italian, Asian residents. Other spots big in this scene is Chicago (IL), Toronto (Canada), Italy, cities in California, Texas, Philipinnes, Detroit (MI), Brazil, latin countries, etc Other popular artists in this subgenre would be TKA, Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam, Corina, Company B, Cover Girls, Expose, Shannon, Trinear, Linear, Stevie B, Lisette Melendez, Noel, George Lamond, Johnny O, Cynthia, Sa-Fire, Debbie Deb, Pretty Poison, Rockell, Jocelyn Enriquez, Nancy Martinez, Jaya, Judy Torres, Coro, etc. Check out more of them.

Freestyle music used traditional Hip Hop elements. That’s why you can hear Planet Rock (Africa Bambaataa) in the foundation. Rob, you should check out old skool Hip Hop like Newcleus’ Jam on It. Hip Hop music was t always lyrically heavy. A lot of it was for the Breakers.
Check out Beat Street or Breaking, for one of your movie reactions. Love and support to your channel!

The 90's. 2Unlimited, Haddaway, KWS, Strike It Up, C&C Music Factory. It was kind of the rebirth of dance music.
